Fixed it for ya "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Only the most awesome post in this whole thread!!! Four days and they were bashing Bush Sr. Obama can take his sweet ass time campaigning for Barbra Boxer, playing several rounds of golf, etc, etc, and according to the press, he's doing a wonderful job. Nobody is is expecting him to dawn a MK-5 Diving helmet and go down and plug the well him self a-la "Men of Honor," but there are things he can be doing, like clean up. Does anybody know if someone has cut the red tape yet to allow the Army Corps or Engineers to finally start building those burms to protect the marsh lands yet? Or are they still waiting on environmental impact studies? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." And what agency is in charge of testing these things? Or does the company use whatever they think will work? Industry wide standard practices and the owners of the drilling rig. It would be somewhat analogous to a tandem passenger demanding his tandem instructor to not bother with the gear check. That he just needs to get to the ground as quickly as possible. Ok, they might actually get to the ground pretty fast, but maybe not as intended. Did you happen to see the 60 Minutes piece I'm talking about? Part 1 http://www.cbs.com/primetime/60_minutes/video/?pid=0QTplOIQZdImAkzJqPt1LNLcjf_YDWcj&vs=homepage&play=true Part 2 http://www.cbs.com/primetime/60_minutes/video/?pid=7KYpOXIbbFd9R_2YQBpQsdFhU3AD_YM7&vs=homepage&play=true Might be worth a look if you haven't seen it. I saw the 60 Minutes Piece. BP actually had everything in place that they needed. The problem was that pieces failed and then a BP exec ordered short cuts that were not in alignment with normal procedures. That error along with a seal that disintegrated on the well cap is the cause of all the problems, so it seems. We need to drill because we are dependent on oil to power our country for right now. When short cuts are taken this is the result. The BP exec that caused all of this needs to be brought up on criminal negligence charges and made an example out of. We need to drill, but safety can not be ignored. I know that BP's profits are not going to be in danger any time soon so there was no need for them to take short cuts. I hope that they do get saddled with the cost of the clean up. They can afford it and hopefully it will send a warning shot across the bow of the other oil companies who may consider taking similar risks. Recap: 1. Criminal Negligence charges on exec that ordered to proceed knowing problems. 2. BP pay all costs for clean up. 3. Keep drilling. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Are you seriously surprised? This is the same administration that refused to investigate the Black panthers threatening voters outside a polling station. They only investigate Republicans and the CIA. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." You are kidding right????? Having affairs is "family values"????????? Getting ass fucked in airport bathrooms or the all too oft seen christian sexcapades is family values????? I spose a little incest with their offspring is a great way to demonstrate family values to the next generation of young rePUBLIClowns too?????? That seems to be the "family values" a hell of a lot of rePUBICLowns seem to be demonstrating to others these days. Holy fuck man....... http://www.republicansexoffenders.com/ I'm not saying do as they do. Are you saying everyone should be single parents? Holy fuck man.... the point of my posts have been even though Republicans can turn out to be hypocrites when they get caught in a sex scandal, at least they are advocating family values. Democrats don't even try. A broken family adds to their voting base. When was the last time you heard about a Liberal talking about family values? And lets get off the oil kick in this thread. It's supposed to be about family values and sex scandals. Quit misdirecting. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The T-Boone Pickens plan has nothing to do with wars. You should really look it up before you put your foot in your mouth like that. Or are you trying to change the subject because you can't admit that liberals don't care about family values? And you completely missed the point from my last post. When the liberals come up with a plan to help with the single parents on welfare dilemma, let me know. Until then, I guess you can just continue to attack anyone who suggests that 2 parents are what is best for a kid. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. So what you are saying is to avoid any problems for them selves they are going to turn a blind eye to the problem. Sounds like the typical liberal pussy thing to do. Sometimes you have to stick you neck out there. Hard decisions are not always pretty. It's called the T-Boone Pickens plan or "all of the above" to get us off of foreign oil. Democrats keep blocking it because they don't like portions (AKA Drill baby Drill). As far as the Republicans sending off our young to die in war, 2002 was the lowest death count in America for murder in a long time totaling about 17,638. That is just one year. How many people have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since then? If you are to much of a pussy to address the problem because the answer may get you labeled a hypocrite, just say so. But this a problem that won't go away by ignoring it. But ignoring it will add to your voting base. Attacking the solution won't fix the problem, which is exactly what you are doing. But if a Democrat does it It's "Oh well." If Joe Biden was to have gay sex in an airport it would be "Oh well, that's Joe, It's OK, he's a democrat." It's only bad if republicans do it. Didn't you learn anything from John Edwards? Suggest you look up "hypocrisy" in a dictionary, since it is apparent that you have no idea what it means, I know exactly what "hypocrisy" means. That is not the point. Any time a republican gets in a moral scandal the liberals attack with the work "hypocrisy." But if not "family values" then what is the liberal answer to the decline in our social values? 80 percent of the people in jail come from broken homes. The projects are over run with single parents. Welfare moms are draining the government. What is the liberal answer? They don't have one and they don't care. They are either dangerously ignorant to the problems that are being created by our declining social values or they are secretly supporting it because people dependent on government adds to there voting base. If there is an option "c" in the liberal agenda, put up or shut up. All politicians are narcissistic. You have to be to crave that kind of public attention. Therefore all politicians have the capacity to be "cheating male or female chauvinistic pigs." To me though, this is an important issue. We need a solution. The Democrats need to start providing a few. Whether it be free vasectomies to gang bangers to prevent "baby mama drama", free birth control pills to the projects, condom drop boxes, I don't care. Just some ideas to show that they acknowledge the single parent problem in the projects and an actual solution would be nice. But I don't think that they will ever go main stream with an idea. Any politician that comes forward, regardless of party, supporting family values runs the risk of being called "hypocrite" and it's in a politicians nature to sell out for votes. That is why the tea party is doing so well. These values in politicians that are being labeled "insiders" are getting the boot. Hopefully, regardless of party, any new politician getting voted in is more interested in the good of the country than getting votes. Washington has a way of changing people though. We will see. I don't think they hate America, but they do hate people who vote republican and they are willing to make a few sacrifices for the "greater good." The problem is Democrats don't even try. They like single welfare moms. It's a guaranteed vote because they depend on government. You don't have a problem with that? To many kids are growing up in broken homes. The strains of single parenthood are spilling over on to the children and it's creating a moral void that is tearing apart our country. Democrats don't even care. Like I said, all they care about is that a single mom is a locked vote. If they had there way, they would tear apart all the low income families to ensure they needed welfare so they would have to vote democrat to keep the check coming. Where would that leave our children and our country? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." What I got out of the report was that Transocean and Halliburton were trying to do their jobs and BP was pressuring them to complete the job faster and in a non-standard way. If the facts as detailed in the report are true, the BP execs need to go to jail for life. Agreed. Transocean owns and operates the rig and should know all of the safety precautions that need to be followed to do the job safely. If a BP Exec came in and played the "Golden rule. I have the gold, I make the rules" bit and over ruled the Transocean safety precautions, especially knowing the difficulties drilling at the site, that is gross negligence to the Nth degree. Heads need to roll. It's pretty convenient that an Engineer witnessed all of the bickering and in-fighting survived the indecent. He should make a very credible witness in the court case. Talk about looking like an idiot, how hard could it be to read the bill before you go on national TV. To quote a Senator "It's only 10 pages, not 2,000 like the health care bill." Obama upset about the oil spill "blame game"... Seriously?
jgoose71 replied to ridestrong's topic in Speakers Corner
Anecdote != data A rather absurd statement for you to make when the topic is someone's opinion. What CEO? Which company? What gathering Before your no answer you will get the YA. OK. right I'll help out Kallend. GE stands to make large amounts of Bank off of Cap and Tax. To bad it will decimate the rest of the country. Edited to Add Al Gore Inc also..... Didn't you hear? They're now denying they ever said that. It was never denied. Where did you get that? DRILL, BABY DRILL!!!! Hope that makes you happy. All of the Liberals are still trying to figure out how to side step Supreme Leader Obama's comments on drilling so they can give OPEC more power over the U.S. Energy Independence is still a long ways off. The Rig was built over 30 years ago in India. Probably shouldn't have been in operation. But I'm also guessing safety for his minions isn't high on Hugo Chavez's list. I probably would have had one foot in the escape hatch at all times also. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Most of the Illegals I have seen get paid $2 an hour under the table while working 18 hour days. The employer makes out off of their backs. I would like to see a poll that shows what % pays taxes and what % doesn't. The Illegals that have a Social Security number and don't file returns that I know of don't because those SS numbers are stolen. Illegals have funded the identity theft trade really well over the last many years. I really haven't heard of anything good coming from Illegal Immigrants. "Illegal" is not a race. Its already been said, the left wants them to vote and not work, the right wants them to work and not vote, and America is cleaning up the shit storm in the middle. Its a problem that has to be dealt with soon. Any action right now is better than the no action the government is taking. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Hey, Gawain. I must have crossed path with you in FOB Loyalty, Iraq it 2006. Sounds A lot like the Liberal Media and the Obama administration to me. Brilliant. Take you long to think that one up? I had to read and understand first. You know how stupid us un-edumicated conservative types are. My liberal translator was broken. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. US Sen. Bob Bennett ousted at Utah GOP convention
jgoose71 replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
You are way off the mark. It's not more conservatism, his views on abortion, or that he is not far enough to the right. It's that he voted for the bail out. He followed bush (yes, we can blame him for this one) right off a cliff and now he is paying the price. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. They don't recruit these guys on there bomb making ability. They recruit them on there ability to gain access to the target and willingness to sacrifice them selves for Allah. A good example would be the kid they strapped a body bomb to in Afghanistan and told him to "walk up to U.S. troops and push this button and flowers will come out." Good thing the kid didn't fall for it. The kid wasn't a bomber, but being a kid they knew he could walk up to U.S. troops and want to do something nice in hopes of getting goodies. Access and Willingness. Not a bomber. This guy was already in the U.S. and was willing to Jihad for them. But not a bomber. Someone had to show him how to put this thing together. The plans were probably proven and sound, but the guy didn't have the know how to properly set the thing up. The bomb maker in most of these cases fancies him self "to important" to put himself out there. He must stay free to help someone construct another device. If you ask any one of these guys they will tell you that we have to be lucky every time and they only have to be lucky once. This is try number 2 in a short time right here on American soil. How long until try number three? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Just because it didn't go off doesn't mean it's amateurish, it means he wasn't testing his materials as he went along to make sure things are working correctly. He just trusted that they would work because that is the way he was shown. I've seen similar devices kill lots of friends over seas. If Janet Napalatano was paying any attention to any of the intelligence reports coming her way she would know better and not open her mouth and swallow her foot like that, just like she did with the underwear bomber. Just once again showing how unqualified she is. Probably still thinking about the threat that Veterans pose to the U.S. Oh wait, it was a Veteran that reported it.
