So, are "death panels" in it, or not? Dude, re-read the post. We are not going to know what's in it until it's sitting on the presidents desk. That is what he just told Bret Baier yesterday. At that point, do you think he is not going to sign it? Transparency at it's finest. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The point is you have the right to choose your morale compass. If you don't agree with religion, that is fine. You don't have the right to take it away. And who is doing that? You honestly haven't seen the far left and atheist movement to cut god out of America? Time to come out from under the rock. Google is your friend. Take a look at some of the atheist adds that went up last Christmas in government buildings if you have forgotten. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. This is utter crap. The separation of church and state was meant to keep things like the Spanish inquisition form happening all over again and prevent the U.S. from becoming a religious ran state like so many in the middle east ran by Sharia Law. The problem is a few people on the far left have decided to use the separation of church and state as a platform to declare war on religion. Our founding fathers new the importance of morale fiber and still wanted religion, no matter what religion you chose to be a part of our lives. Even an atheists needs a morale compass of some sort to guide him down the paths of right and wrong. Nobody should try to take that away. I call this "the pendulum effect". When a pendulum gains momentum it never stops in the middle. It has to swing to the left and the right a few times before it stops where it should be. You can thank the idiots on both sides for that. Ruh-roh. White girls won the step contest
jgoose71 replied to happythoughts's topic in Speakers Corner
not surprising. In the name of social engineering and racial justice, discrimination against white people is acceptable now. That is just the name of the game. In all fairness though, before I could really pass judgment, I would have to see both routines back to back. No doubt those girls could move though. Exactly. How many trees were cut down? How much money was wasted in postage (the pre letter, actual letter, and prepaid envelope)? I thought after the superbowl ad they wouldn't need all the extra propaganda. What about all the new hires to pass shit out? Isn't this supposed to be the go-green, fiscally responsible government? No I don't. Having been there done that, I can tell you that risking your life to save someone else is a powerful drug. It's what drives policemen, firefighters, paramedics, and so forth. This rush is what I believe lead to him making a bad call. Yes, he did make a bad call, but I'm pretty sure it was in the interest of the movie to make it interesting. I won't get into the details to spoil the movie. My apologies if I gave to much away in my last post. I tried to be vague and not include to much detail about the scenes. For the record, I also thought the movie sucked. As an EOD tech I can tell you that they screwed a lot of things up, but I do understand the message. It's not pro or anti war. It's just war. Source: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/03/08/james-p-pinkerton-hurt-locker-kathryn-bigelow-oscar-iraq-honor-military/ Are you fuckin' kidding me? It absolutely takes a position on the war. The very first thing you see in the film is a statement, a single card, white on black statement that is clearly anti-war. That is the thesis for the entire film. It's what motivates the main character and explains his actions. WTF? You are soooooo off the mark. The first line in the movie in black and white is "War is a drug." As a sky diver and an EOD tech, I can tell you that putting on a bomb suit and taking the long lonely walk down a road to an IED in the middle of Iraq is on par or even a little more of a rush than jumping out of a plane. This rush is what drives him. That is what the movie is trying to convey. Watch the last five minutes of the movie again with him in the cereal isle at the grocery store and smiling in the bomb suit and tell me I'm wrong. Remember, the same chick that directed this movie also did Point Break. You don't remember the line about "Some people snort for it, some jab a vein, all you have to do is jump?" I didn't see anything in the movie that was pro or anti war. The only war message I saw was war is hell. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. No, i think he is just trying to stick it in the parties eye on his way out the door. From your own article: It sounds more like his state supports him but his party doesn't. Since representing his constituents doesn't fall in line with the party(tobacco and gambling bad), they want to replace him with someone who will tow the party line. All that friction was bound to come out somewhere. politics as usual. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Generally speaking, at this time, the Republicans have way more public support than the Dems Was just a month ago the Dems did not need the R's. what happened? I just thought this needed to be mentioned again. I'm still confused on how the Republicans filibustered a filibuster proof majority. Did they hire a hypnotist to make a couple of Democrats think they were Republicans for a day? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. More evidence that you are unaware of the congressional relationship between GWB and congress 2001 to 2007 VERSUS GWB and teh congress from 2007 to 2009. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_vetoes George W. Bush 11(vetoes) 1(pocket veto) 12(total vetoes) 4(overrides) 33%(override ratio) I believe only 1 of these vetoes occurred under the first 6 years, so the Dem-controlled House and tied senate, 49-49-2, did quite a bit with the limited power they had. Try again. He did not use it enough in my opinion. During the early or later years The only things Bush didn't use enough of were alcohol and cocaine. Well ACTUALLy...he used them plenty in his life.... Yeah, but not nearly enough... you know? I'm thinkin you should re-read Obama's Autobiography. Especially the chapter concerning his college years. You are correct sir, I think the appropriate term for the black woman is "Token" You notice how she was also the only Black woman in the picture? And why isn't their name ''Code Black"? You should probably re-read the last line of my post. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

A lot of it is cultural also. Great white sharks and Killer Whales both will eat only what they were taught to eat. If you took a Great white and moved it from south africa to california, it may survive, but it would be difficult because the way it hunts and the food it usually hunts is no longer available. I grew up in Alaska hunting and fishing. Unprocessed meat was a regular part of my diet. There were times where if I didn't track down that deer, I didn't eat that night. It's ingrained in me. Could I choose to stop eating meat? Yes. To me though that would be like cutting off an arm. Wouldn't do it willingly. If you were raised to drink non-fat skim milk mochachino frappes, eat toffu covered in hay, and know all the good stalking techniques to sneak up on a good deal at a supermarket, good on you. That is your sub-culture of the human species. My sub-culture involves getting out into the woods for more than an afternoon, living off the land on occasion, and enjoying everything that was put on this earth, including meat. I don't look down at or make fun of people who choose to live there life different than mine, and I don't try to force my values on anyone else. Being in the military i've been around the world many times now and I have seen many different cultures and many people do many strange things. It's not wrong, its just who they are. Last time I checked, the Supreme Court, which ruled on the issue, had a majority who were not Obama fans, nor from Chicago. Great!! Now where is the supreme courts ruling on the water pumps? Is it consistent? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

I'm pretty sure there are ways to get stuff off of boats in the Mississippi river and on to boats on lake Michigan. Let's see, instead of a boat just going straight on through... You'll need each boat to unload their goods onto trucks or trains, transport them to the other body of water, and then load them back onto another boat. How much is all that going to delay the delivery, and increase the cost of those goods? Just playing devil's advocate. The point of the thread is how can the government be so on one side on one issue, and on the polar opposite side of a similar issue? Where is the consistency? Where is the compromise? Where is the change we can believe in? And why in the hell would anybody want more of this? Inquiring minds want to know. And why in the National Inquirer a more trusted news source than many main stream media outlets? I could go on, but I think it's time for me to be quite now "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Agreed. It's why a lot of people believe that government is the problem and not the solution. As stated in line one of the original post, the government screwed it up. Depends really. Who has the better lawyers? How big of a bleeding heart does the judge have? Very few courts are impartial any more. The impending court battles should not effect the starting point for policies. There will always be court battles for everything, thanks to the lawyers that need to get paid, but that shouldn't stop you from trying to fix problems in a fair matter. Either way, Bill came up with a workable solution (at least a starting point) that balanced the environment and industry. Why is the government unable to do that now a days? That sounds fair. Why couldn't the government come up with a solution like that? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Have to agree with mike. I got my eyes set in the front of my head for binocular vision, sharp canine teeth, and can run forward fast than backwards. No justifications are needed for eating meat. Natures rules, not mine. If I was meant to eat alfalfa, I would have three stomaches. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Unless I am mistaken, you seem to be leaning towards "leave the locks open and shut down the pumps". What makes the Delta Smelt more important than the Lake michigan ecosystem? Also what makes the shipping industry through the locks more important than feeding the west coast? The only reason I ask is because of the inconsistencies. I know to replace the lost food from the farm lands more food can be shipped in from china and mexico (keeping americans safe and employed). I also know that moving goods through the locks is a lot easier than going around. I'm just trying to figure out why the policies that were set are considered "fair". Environmentalists would say something different about the Asian carp. They might say that the Great lakes ecosystem will be decimated. The farmers in california are singing a different tune also. You quote "millions" and "billions" in lost revenues for the shut down on the locks. however, the farmers are claiming "billions" in lost revenue also for the shut down of the pumps. I don't have all the answers. But on the outside looking in the problems look similar. Industry or the environment? And the kicker is there is no consistency. I'm a mud throwing pessimist so all I can say is "Chicago is Obama's home town. Long live the unions!" I just had to throw that in there for ya Bill "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." How do you propose to get all that boat traffic through there if they can't navigate through the locks? I'm pretty sure there are ways to get stuff off of boats in the Mississippi river and on to boats on lake Michigan. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I've always believed that if I stopped eating meat, my eyes would slowly get all big and dopey and move over to the sides of my head, my teeth would flatten out and I would start chewing from side to side, and when walking around, I would have to stop and check out every noise I heard. Isn't that typical for herbivores (aka "prey")? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
