On a related note, successful insurgencies rarely change the status quo. Either they fail (most of them) or they change the leadership but keep the same operating instructions. They switch usually just switch the despots. +2 It's not like anyone has tried to identify who the opposition was and what their vision of the future was anyway.... Bahrain, not Dubai. And one of the main sticking points so far with the no-fly zone has been getting the US on board. Britain and France have been pushing for it for some time - only now is the US agreeing to it. Remember, imposing a no-fly zone is not as simple as just sticking some jets overhead and saying "don't go near there, stay away from the river." "But Betty." (2 points for the film reference) It may well mean a week or two of hitting ground targets to knock out air defence systems. The Libyan SAM network is not to be taken lightly. That's not to say that it couldn't be dealt with easily enough by Western military forces... but it would have to be dealt with before trying to enforce a no-fly zone. If they wanted to impose a no fly zone, they should have done it a long time ago. Ghadafi's forces are fully mobilized and it won't be long until he has complete control of the country again. If we stepped in now, all it would do is prolong the blood shed, cost millions, and Ghadafi would still be in control in the end..... That said, Obama, the foreign policy genius that he is, will probably set up a no fly zone in a couple of more weeks. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. why are his words important - just words from another white man... Wow, just wow. Why don't you just step up and say what you really mean and call him an "Uncle Tom?" Does all that hate for "the man" keep you warm at night? You are so far out there you got me defending Obama. That really says something. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Are you getting those numbers from employers or from people you know who didn't get the job? Typically now a days with the economy being what it is, an employer who has a good paying job to offer will have up to 300 applications that he has to go through. Even more if it only requires a high school education. Up to thousands. After that then an employer after he wades through all of the aplications to find the qualified candidates, he has to look for stuff that makes them stand out. I think this is where you are getting confused. There is the ticket to get to the dance, and the something extra to date the prom queen. When you say 30% to 40%, are you really suggesting that 60% to 70% of the people hired aren't qualified for the job? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. why would you say the black community is falling behind? Oh, I don't know, statistics? Here is a quick article that will help you get caught up: http://www.theroot.com/buzz/72-percent-african-american-children-born-unwed-mothers If you really want to help the black community get caught up, you should first start with the family unit. I'm not sounding off about right wing family values, I'm just saying that we have to do more to ensure people don't have kids until they are ready, and when they do come along, make sure that a mother and father are involved to bring them up with some kind of moral code and work ethic. Right now, Jersey Shore and Fifty Cent are raising the black kids not being raised by their grand parents. Did you even read the words of Barak Obama in my last post? While I understand your point, I'm sure most people would agree that hiring based on race (unless you are in a state that still has affirmative action) doesn't happen to much any more. I would have to say 99.99% of the employers out there hire based on who is most qualified. I don't say 100% because I think the latest statistics show that there are about 3,000 KKK and Arian Nation twits out there hiding in the closet somewhere. America has changed dramatically. 50 years ago or earlier, race may have been an excuse, but not so much any more. Now a days, if a man can't find a job, it's usually because of the choices he has made. Did he stay in school? Is he a felon? Is he on drugs? A child needs to be raised right to stay on the correct path. As I stated in my earlier post, the black community is falling behind in that area. Even Obama acknowledges that. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25176204/ns/politics-decision_08/ "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. OK, now here is the truth. It's not that blacks are dumber or smarter that white people. It's Priorities. Black kids growing up prioritize MTV, gangster rap, getting their bling on, slappin hoes, big ballin', grabbin their junk, and making sure their street cred is in order. White kids are more likely to pay attention in school. Usually because they are more likely to have a father figure in their life to kick their ass if they slack off. Some how it always makes it's way back to family values. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Which is a bigger threat: Muslim extremists or the KKK?

You mean the one who let slide being called an ass? Talk to the hand. I didn't call him an ass, I said he was being an ass about it. Reading is fundamental, Andy9o8 esquire. Yes, Canuck's post did show a certain lack of knowledge in the area, but that was no reason for Quade to turn around and basically post "your an idiot." This is the hypocrisy of the left. They claim to be all for the rights of everyone, to be all inclusive, and to be fair and even minded. When the opportunity comes around to educate and have an honest conversation what happens? Quade's following comment could have been said with a nasally voice while looking down his nose. The implication was he was one of the unwashed masses. The following comments by both parties degenerated from there. If the left wants to claim to be the adult in the room, they should act like it. As far as the rest of it, I think your right. It would be useless to help anyone at this point. Kadaffi is rolling out the big guns with the military. Any resistance at this point is going to be fractured pockets that will be hard to organize. If we wanted to get rid of Kadaffi, we missed our chance. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." While quade was being an ass about it, he does have a valid point. Arab culture is a little different. You have to remember that most arabs, especially in tribal regions learn to read by reading the Koran and they prey 5 times a day. Saying Allah Akbar which literally translated means "god willing" is a normal part of their speech. Some places, once again especially in tribal regions, carrying around an AK-47 is apart of their every day wear. If you check them, 80% of the time they are usually even empty. That's just the way it is. But this also brings me back to the original point from my earlier post. We know Kadaffi is a bad guy. We know nothing about the rebel group. We need to start talking to them to find out who they are. If they are extremists, we should stay out of it all together. If they are not, we should open up diplomatic relations with them to help them out. The last thing we need in that area is for a power vacuum to form for Al Qeda to come in and fill. Agreed. Targeting civilians to scare a population to your will =Terrorism. Quadaffi is currently using his Air force to bomb the civilian population. The opposition is only targeting military and government targets. You make the call. Do we need to get directly involved? No. But we do need to start talking to the rebel forces to establish their legitimacy. Start dealing with them to let them know we are friends, open up trade directly to them to help establish funds for them so they can get supplies and aid. Maybe even advice to help set up infrastructure. Hopefully the rest of the world will finally stand up and do something instead of waiting for the U.S. to do it, but I doubt it. The problems come in if Quadaffi squashes the rebellion, and we were all supporting the opposition. But without support, he will most definitely crush them. Catch 22, no? About time the Wisconsin Senate went back to work
jgoose71 replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
Two things about the politifact article jump out at me: 1. They said that Rand Paul didn't tell the truth when he quoted the figure originally, but had to eventually come clean when more groups got involved. Politifacts does lean left, despite what some people may claim. 2. Wisconsin teachers get $59,000 in pay and $41,000 in benefits. Seriously? $41,000 in benefits? Do they get a new car to shuttle them back and forth to their doctors appointments? What benefits cost $41,000 a year? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Well, yes, but that wasn't the point of the article. Women are going to school and getting educated while men are getting left behind. When the market picks up, all the qualified candidates for the high paying jobs that require more than a high school education will be ran by women. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but it's just another social shift in our society that is coming. To bad I wasn't born about 15 years later. I think I would have liked being a house-husband. While I'm sure that everyone knows that there is a pay gap between men and women, how much longer do you think that will last? Just over 40% of the college students now a days are men. Women out number the men in college graduates by approximately 2 million a year. According to the article, unless it's janitorial or computer engineering (I'm guessing that means video games) women are getting ready to take over the work force. So where do I go to sign up for a sugar mama? Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41928806/ns/business-consumer_news "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. so I should plan a vacation day for then? I'm sure the company will provide a paid day off for the end of the world. You should not waste vacation time. I hope there is a restaurant at the end of the universe. better bring a towel, too! I'm catching a ride with the dolphins. So long and thanks for all the fish. Wisconsin State Employees Should Have Some Koch and Smile
jgoose71 replied to dmcoco84's topic in Speakers Corner
As more comes out, it's not about money, it's about power. More specifically, it's about the unions keeping power. It's not about the children (this bill would allow the schools to reform the teacher tenure thing), it's not about balancing a budget, it's not about saving jobs (the governor will have to fire 1,500 people if this doesn't pass) It's about union thugs keeping political power. Federal employees don't have collective bargaining and they are doing just fine. The other thing that happens if this bill passes is unions won't be able to mandate dues to go to Democratic candidates. Democrats and unions will have to raise funds the old fashioned way, which is the same way republicans do. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Forced sterilization is a human rights violation. Mildly coerced sterilization is only slightly better. I can think of so many reasons why we don't want to walk down that slope. I also suspect that even in the short term, the decrease in pregnancies may be accompanied by a spike in STDs. I wasn't talking about forces or coerced sterilization. It would be all voluntary. If you don't want any baby mamma drama, come get snipped. The signs would be that simple. But it's not like a plan like this would go into effect anyway for reasons already cited above. Ya, STD's are a problem right now anyway. I don't think those numbers would be effected. By the birth rates in some areas, I don't think they know what a condom is anyway. You've completely missed the target. Private sector unions good, Public Sector unions bad. Private sector unions have to strike a balance. They need to balance pay and benefits with company profits. If the company doesn't make a profit, it goes out of business. If they don't pay take care of their employees, they get beat up by the unions. Balance. For the Company to succeed the right amount goes to everyone. Public sector unions are different. The union demands more from the politician or he doesn't get his election funds. The politician raises taxes to buy more union votes. It's a corrupt cycle. Since they are government employees, this shit isn't even needed. Just pass laws that the government pay follows the private pay. It solves all kinds of problems. The public sector will be competitive with the private sector for attracting talent, many tax dollars will be saved in union dues, and when a public sector employee isn't getting the job done, we can replace him with one that does. The public deserves what it pays for. Do you think that good teachers get fired so a crappy teacher with seniority continues to teach our kids is fair? There wasn't an option for better off financially, but royally fucked. Yes, she got custody of the kids, I'm in the navy and always deployed, and she started using the kids as leverage against me. In the end, nobody won. On the flip side, they are all grown and out of the house now and they can visit me when ever they want. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. And putting single parents on welfare isn't fairing much better either. All we are doing is creating low income pockets to breed upon each other. I've always thought that we could get somewhere if we changed what "Family values" meant to the general public. Right now when people think "family values" they think right wing conservative views on Marriage, abortion, sex ed, etc.... I would promote (same as you), free sterilization to those who could not (or would not) support a kid, legalize the abortion pill, sex ed or health class for all students in high school, maybe even Junior High. And in an even more controversial move, I would explore options to give men more say in their reproductive rights. It takes two to tango, but after that, the man's life is hanging on the woman's decision. How would it effect the woman's decision if she know the man didn't have to be their physically or financially? Family values to me means when you have a kid, you have a family. Not a burden or a welfare check, or what ever else kids in the slums may be labeled as. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I like your thinking. I would also like to see depo shots or Vasectomies offered to prisoners/ gang-bangers/ etc... Problem 1 you will run into with that though is you will get people accusing you of trying to rid the U.S. of minorities. You will get the NAACP parading around statistics of how all the low income homes are minorities and you will be accused of racism. Problem 2 is the democrats don't want this to happen. If they want the welfare to continue, vote democrat. Never mind that it's ruining America, we can't lose that voting block. Politicians are short cited also. This study is nothing new. The only way to counter this stuff right now is to promote family values. Since I said "family values" now we are getting into the extreme right wing and left wing arguments. Que Amazon talking about closet homosexual hypocrite republicans in 3, 2, 1....... The break down of America's moral fiber is causing all kinds of problems. Short sighted folks running up debts for instant gratification, finding new ways to take risk without responsibility, and just in general not thinking about what today's decisions are going to do to tomorrow. Nothing is going to change until people start making responsible decisions. That isn't going to happen until people are held accountable for their decisions. Unfortunately, you are a heartless bastard if you tell someone "no." Eventually someone may get serious about it. Not until it's an extreme emergency with no other alternatives though.... Yeah, you know how those FEC numbers are - I'm sure they're not as accurate as whatever you're getting from dkos. I don't work for them, sorry to bust your bubble. Yeah you just wait around for your miniscule little trickle like a good litle unquestioning boy And like a good unquestioning liberal, you don't mind the unions choking your dues out of you so they can give it all to the party of there choice. Do you think it's right that unions make people pay up to $2,000 a year in dues so they can turn around and use it for their own political gains? In the issue of fairness, shouldn't the Republicans have a law that allows them to force people to contribute to their cause? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying.
