  1. I have to agree. I can't say that I've know anyone to turn them selves around though. It all boils down to if they want to. Hopefully she is mature enough to know that if she keeps the baby, her social life is over and the next several years are work. If she doesn't understand that and wants to keep "hangin out with her buds" or what ever she is doing now, her best but is abortion or give it up for adoption. She won't be able to provide a good life for her kid. Man did you just lose your standing with Turtle and Divot.. et al.... by suggesting she murder her child Well, to some, "Family Values" also means not having a child until you are ready to provide a good life for the child. The pro-life-at-all-costs crowd would argue that any abortion could kill the next Davinci, or what would the world been like without Steven Hawking. Sadly the prison system is still made up of about 80% prisoners from broken homes. Do you think Beethoven's skills would have flourished from Sing-Sing? Not every baby born can cure cancer, not every single mother will turn her life around for her kid. It's simple facts. (Don't fret, I'm still a Republican/Tea party dude. Notice how I included a factual statistic in my rant?) "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 3. For a Q-boat don't you want a less threatening name to draw the enemy in? Like say the USS Perez Hilton? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  4. The funny thing is, the republicans who remained passed a bill which says that if you're not present, you don't get paid. And of course, the Democrats were all absent, and unable to vote against it. So if they're going to run and hide to shirk their responsibility, then they ain't gettin' paid for it. It's only effective if they shut off their expense accounts too. Thats how Nancy Pelosi, even though she only makes $175,000 a year, was able to run up a several million dollar a year tab for the tax payer to cover. 5. Public Officials aren't unionized (yet) so here is an idea. While they are out, hold another election and replace them. If you don't show up for work, you get replaced with someone who does, right? (unless you are union) Piss and moan about Republicans all you want, but when Obama said "we won, get over it" they still showed up for work and did what they had to do inside the system. They didn't cut and run like a bunch of spoiled 3rd graders. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 6. I was Yes vote #5. There were 22 No votes. Sad commentary on dz.commers. What is sad is that this has been allowed to go on. Pirates now hold about 30 ships and some 660 hostages that they torture and terrorize to get more money out of. Ransoms have gone up to between $5 to $10 million and no one is doing anything about it. There are all kinds of kidnappings that happen around the world in various countries, but to me this is different. This is a very important shipping lane in international waters. The U.S. and other countries have a duty to protect it. There are several countries that have a stake in this. This is not one country with it's problems contained within it's borders. So yea, there should be a little outrage. Just my opinion. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 7. Uh, if the bulk of the pirates were able to surrender alive, it does not suggest that the rescuers killed the hostages. If 100% of the pirates were killed along with a significant number of the hostages, it would suggest that the rescuers were using a Russian playbook. If reports came back that "we found the yacht, but there was nobody aboard when we got there," it would leave everyone guessing. I am thinking its time for some Q Boat operations... look harmless react deadly. I think that would be a good idea, to bad this administration wouldn't do something like that. It would be fun to see a bunch of pirates come up on a yacht thinking "easy pickens" and then come face-to-face with a couple of M2 .50 cals, a MK-19 40mm belt fed grenade launcher, and a couple of TOW missiles. Blow their boat out of the water and pick up the survivors (if there are any) "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. That's Skyrad talking out his ass without reading the story or watching the video. The navy knew that with 4 hostages and possibly 19 pirates on board, there was no winnable scenario if they tried to take the ship. The navy said as much. As I said earlier, a spokesman for the pirates contacted a media dude earlier and stated that there will be no more scenarios where we rescue the hostages and capture the pirates. I think they executed the hostages to make a statement. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 9. As I said earlier, 90% of a states budged is dedicated to either Educate, Medicate, or incarcerate the state. Any cuts that have meaning will have to take place in one of these three sectors. I really don't see the problem with mandating that people working in the public sector get the same pay and benefits as those in the private sector. When the economy turns around, I think that would work to their favor. Yes, they are willing to compromise right now. Only because it's a republican legislature and they only need to find a way to hold on until a democratic legislature works its way back into office. Then record deficits will be ran back up and all old habits will resume. You said worry about the now, but we can still learn from the past. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..... Walkers bill evens the playing field for future legislations. When the economy recovers and the public sector has to raise it's pay to maintain quality workers, I'm down with that to. Every seems to forget that the private sectors need talent also. They are the ones paying the taxes that feed the wallets of the public sector. We can't expect China to float our government for ever, oh, wait, they have already stopped buying bonds.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 11. Are you suggesting that the pirates who killed the innocent hostages should be hanged? I'm down with that....
  12. I know you want to believe it's a power grab, in a way it may be, but that is not the whole story. This move wouldn't be necessary if the unions were more willing to bargain in the past. The only reason they are willing to bargain now is because the Republican legislature has got them bent over a barrel and they are trying desperately to save their asses. There years of bulling are over and they are trying to look like the victim. They have victimized the states for years. Unions have done a lot for our country. Without them, who knows where workers rights would be now. To bad they have way over reached their power. Take a look at the top lobbiest of all times: http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/list.php How many are Unions? Why is number 3 on the list a state workers union? I've heard numbers as high as $30 billion in just union donations for Obama's campaign. How many jobs could that have saved or created? It's like Democrats have found a way to back door public funds to their campaigns. Mandatory unions for public sector workers. Walker has stated that if the legislation doesn't happen, he will have to lay off 1,500 public sector workers. The Union bosses don't care. It's not them that will get fired. Just like to balance the federal budget, the spending on the big three has to be brought under control (Social Security, Medicare-Medicaid, and Military) State governments have a big three also. Education, Medical (you don't think the federal government picks up the tab for people that can't pay, do you?), and prisons. That is 90% of most state budgets. Hard choices are going to have to be made. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 13. So here is the situation. The U.S. was trying to negotiate the release of the 4 hostages and then- the good news is when they went to take down the boat, 2 pirates resisted. One was shot, the other died in a knife fight. So is this going to be the new MO for pirates that capture Americans? If the Navy shows up, kill the hostages, then surrender? 14. Are these actually shows on Al Jazeera, the television station which we are discussing, or are you just posting the most inflammatory thing you can find in order to beef up your argument? No, these are actually shows that air regularly on Palestinian TV. I will say that some of the stuff I saw on Al Jezeera while over seas was worse than this. If I posted it, it would get me banned. Al Jazeera has different branches that broadcast different stuff in different countries. Some branches get video delivered to them direct from Al Qeda, Hamas, and the PLO. If Al Jazeera did have a branch here in the U.S. it would look a lot different than what is seen even in Europe. To bad the name Al Jazeera all ready has a negative connotation to a lot of people. 15. I have to agree with popsjumper. Based on past sales and future sales of the ipad, they are going to need all the touch screens they can get. I own a couple of Apple products my self. They work great. If only there was more compatibility between apple and microsoft. No matter what you think of Jobs as a human being, he is a genius. You can't blame a guy for wanting to make sure his supply keeps up with the demand. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 17. You are missing the point Turtle, Democrats never claimed to have morals, so it's OK for them to do this stuff. Get with it all ready. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 18. Agreed. I don't think this measure would even have been considered if the Union Bosses were more flexible. Wasn't this the union that wouldn't even back down on there medical plan paying for Viagra? i guess they just want to be able to continue to screw the tax payers. As long as they get theirs. 19. That's not true. Moose Milk is fucking awsome!!!!! http://www.vermontgasprices.com/Forum_MSG.aspx?master=1&category=1164&topic=38698&page_no=3&FAV=N I've never heard of anyone drinking moose milk. Although, I assume that the article was mostly in jest, I searched for moose milk and found that people do indeed drink it. Has anyone on here ever try it? I was joking about bombing Canada. The recipe is at the bottom of the page. It's mostly Kahlua, vodka, rum, and vanilla Ice cream. Drink until stupid. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 21. I think any poll that asks such a stupid question really deserves a stupid answer just to fuck with it. 22. This is what I am talking about right here. To understand the Constitution you have to know the thought process and how it came to be. In this statement you are trying to polarize the issue into black or white. With us or against us. Since I don't believe in god I the Constitution sucks. At least you didn't play the race card. 23. Lets simplify this Bill Feelings can top facts when you are dealing with yourself. Facts should top feelings when you are dealing with others. The pursuit of happiness is a god given right protected by the constitution. You can go and pursue your happiness, what ever it is. Do what you feel is right. When dealing, or more importantly, writing rules that may effect others, facts are what are important. If you are writing laws, facts are needed. If you are just going out for the day and want to do something to make yourself happy, take your self to church. Dragging someone else to church against their will or writing gun laws based on how you "feel" are both wrong. There is a reason we have freedom of religion and lady justice wears a blind fold. 24. I've stated in past posts that if you want to know what the founding fathers intentions were when they wrote the Constitution, just go back to some of there writings. The typical liberal response has been, "So you want to run things the way they did? You want to bring back slavery too?" Race card in two sentences. You have a well thought out post that makes a lot of sense with good arguments. To bad even after Obama's plea for civil debate after the Arizona shooting fell on deaf ears. The left feels they have waivers granted for that also. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 25. Agreed. We have had this conversation before and as I've said, putting single parents on government support isn't much of a solution either. No those are not "family values." And just like you posted earlier from wikipedia, not everyone sees these as family values either: The above definitions are put on the right by the left to label everyone on the right as religious extremists. That is not the case. Good job taking the left wing talking points hook, line and sinker. For some of us, we just want to see people not start a family or raise kids until there are in a stable position in there lives and can provide for them. Unfortunately with the median income in this country at $40,000 a year, to own a home, car, have 2.5 kids and half a dog surrounded by a white picket fence, you will need to earn a little more than that. 2 parents helps. I don't care if they are straight, gay, what ever. Parental involvement in a child's life will do more than any government program. All some of us want is for people to not have kids until they are ready. To me heading down to the projects with a bunch of doctors are giving out free vasectomies is a hell of a better (and cheaper) option than supporting a bunch of single welfare moms that are raising a bunch of kids growing up thinking they live in MTV's "Jersey Shore" or "Skins." Between the welfare that raises them and the cost of prison to take care of them for the rest of their life, they are a drain on society. We need a lot less of that. The difference between you and me is I see "family values" as parental involvment with the kids and you see it as a right wing religous extemists point of view. You would forgive John Edwards because he doesn't think enough about the kids to mention them on the campaign trail so as to not be labeled a hypocrite and I see both people like Christopher Lee and and John Edwards in the same light. "D" or "R" be damned. I don't want either in congress. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
