I saw this place last weekend on Nitro Circus on MTV. They were testing from what altitude they can jump into the air column and not get hurt. Video here dudeist skydiver #42

here it is: 500euros/700$! I was considering to bite the bullet and just buy canon 10-22 (600e/800$), but it`s just too expensive for using it just for jumping dudeist skydiver #42

So .mts to .mxf is fast. .imx? Wikipedia list it as one of the betacam formats, but do guys on TV station editing work with it? Say... 15-20 minutes is fast enough. I`ll go and check my laptop`s converting time (just dual-core ). Both .mts and .mpg Thank you. dudeist skydiver #42

Hm, at this level of human development where making profit and getting rich on lawsuits are important goals of life , you are absolutely right. It is sad that when somebody has a good idea, first two things that come to mind are: "How much money can I make with this?" and "Will anybody sue me over it?" We`ll just have to wait then for some utopian "star trek" society where all could have easily accessible and free/cheap energy. dudeist skydiver #42

Will look into .mxf. I watched a lot of your videos and most of them were really helpful, thanks

You really did a great job on your helmet (from slide show). -
Related to Tesla? dudeist skydiver #42

Yes. My thoughts also. On WEB sizes. There definitely are, and they are quite visible, especially on prints. Please advise me on this. Which are cheap and sharp? (*cheap would be 200-300 euros/300-400$ range, where this Sigma is). dudeist skydiver #42

Well, I guessed it`s the quickest way just to give them the raw files. Any converting takes time. Would .mpg files (SD recording) do the job (because of the compression)? dudeist skydiver #42

Usually, my boss is paying me, not TV stations. They often come to shoot some local celebrity or something, and they always want the footage right away when they are leaving DZ. So DV tapes were quick solution, and they gave them back after couple of days. Because most of the TV camera guys and the rest of the field crew don`t know sh*t about what the editing guy back at the station needs. If I offer them a data DVD with .avi files, the common answer is "We don`t take DVDs". dudeist skydiver #42

Hi. I was wondering what would be the right format and media for delivering HD video material to broadcasters/TV stations (AVCHD from cx-105)? So far we gave DV tapes or "raw" .avi DV footage burned as data DVD but we switched to HD this season. dudeist skydiver #42

My guess would be that "meeker" and "tandem" were shot with the kit lens. But, as I said to you earlier, the problems with the kit lens were pretty obvious on big prints. And by big, I mean A3 and bigger. my2c dudeist skydiver #42

Could you elaborate on how "both groups are wrong"? I can't comment on people with a ton of hop and pops thinking they are sky gods, since most folks I know that primarily focus on canopy flight are realistic about their freefall skills. I do know people with a non-trivial amount of tunnel time, but not necessarily a lot of jumps, and their freefall skill is definitely representative of the effort they have put in at the tunnel. I'm referring to people with only a couple of hours up to a couple tens of hours of tunnel time. 1. hop-n-pop skygods (remnants of the old times) say something like this: I`m a mighty instructor, I have thousands of jumps, you can`t know anything better than me, thus I am the king of the DZ and you must listen and obey me. Reality is that all they manage is to pull linked exit belly 2-way and don`t fly anything smaller/modern than their 280sqft parafoil, and lack knowledge on some basic stuff like pro pack and new canopy designs. But they have thousands of jumps, thus they are skygods. 2. OTOH, second group has 2-3 hours of tunnel flying 15 (100max) jumps and thinks that tunnel time translates into jump numbers. They say (to the hnp skygods): You don`t know shit about new stuff, go back to the stone age where you belong. We can turn six RW points and we are the mega kings. And then they forgot to check the altimeter (or ... I exaggerated some, but I hope you understand where I was going with this. disclaimer: hop-n-pop skygod is term that is specific to this part of the world (i hope) dudeist skydiver #42

Any body know anything about the USSR's KAP AAD?
mircan replied to patworks's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I was jumping it (KAP3-P) until jump 60 or so. They were reliable when they were new and calibrated. The ones we had were not that good. I had 2 openings inside plane before jump #30. So we were eager to get rid of these things. Some of the guys use those thingies to open instead of them. You know, they waited for designated altitude for AAD to activate. Not good practice... Now, even here KAP is obsolete. dudeist skydiver #42 -
Same here. No jumping for three months now... The worst and longest break in last 4-5 years... dudeist skydiver #42

Little off-topic... Here, some of the people tend to equal tunnel hours to jump numbers. It is because we have a lot of instructors here with 1000+ hop-and-pops and only couple of hours of free fall time (they think they are skygods b/c jump numbers). Least to say that their performance in free fall is not to great. OTOH we have people who have couple of hours of tunnel, and think that tunnel time is making them equivalent of couple of hundred jumps. Of course, both groups are wrong and then sh*t happens. dudeist skydiver #42

[replyHow do the guys locate those routes that fit the flight performance and how is that planned? first a trial jump a bit "high", and then downnnn! ? +1 I would really want to know the what is the process of planing and executing jumps like these. dudeist skydiver #42

Last season we had 2 AAD fires on students who had previous tunnel time, but (very) low jump numbers. Both had "their" reasons for not pulling on time, but it seemed to ME that they had forgot to look at the altimeter because they "thought" they had enough time, which could be "learned" behavior from the tunnel. One student just had to do clear-and-pull from 5k feet... That, of course is just my opinion, but for me it makes sense because they are used to the wind noise, used to 2-3 min rotations in the tunnel, no pull-time anxiety, no ground rush... Still, maybe it was just a coincidence. dudeist skydiver #42

yes, we have exact the same saying. that`s why I`m asking here. It was not that cheap two months ago. It was ~350 euros. Here, it`s very expensive to buy from abroad. I bought an Opteka lense for cx105, I got it yesterday and in the end it cost me 200$+ which is double price. For orders from BH photo the total price=(price$=price€)+20% Anything from them would be in the range of 1000€. There are some options of Tamron or Tokina here though... dudeist skydiver #42

I had mostly sharpness issues (focus) which were very visible in details on A3 prints (297x420mm). In semi/low light conditions there were exposure problems. Low detail in dark areas. Noise issues (but this was probably my fault - hi ISO). Please note that I`m shooting tandems for 2 years now with kit lens. Most of the whuffos can`t see the difference. Published photos in some regular sized ads/newspaper too, no problem. But when it had to be printed on some larger media A3/A2 i could see it right away. Maybe it`s b/c I`m in the desktop publishing business for quite some time and I can see the difference. For next year calendar I think I need better glass for print stuff. dudeist skydiver #42

Care to post some pictures? Skydiving. No cropping. I would be really thankful to see the photos that it makes. Mostly b/c Phree`s post regarding it is marginally better than kit lens and it`s angle of view. Canon`s kit lens weight is a plus for sure and it`s cheap, but that`s it. I have printed a calendar for 2010. with my skydiving photos and on the 8x11 prints the issues with kit lens were quite obvious. Even the cheap Russian Zenitar was better. I dunno, there is a Sigma 17-35 which is a bit more expensive, but I found some people here using it. dudeist skydiver #42
