As I remember, not long ago very experienced jumper died when student tried to put back his dislodged reserve handle, at the door, on exit. Just don`t touch anyone else`s handles. dudeist skydiver #42

It was tried, chances are slim that it`s going to happen. People who decide about such things are very rigid, oldfashioned and out of touch with modern practices in sport. Just covering their asses. It was already prohibited in our SIM way before that happened... dudeist skydiver #42

Maybe. I don`t know really, I was not there. I have just read the report and saw photos. To allow little time for the main risers to clear the area above jumper for cleaner reserve deployment. Still, poor guy in question was falling little head-low and more on his left side so reserve just got fired right into trailing ball of shit. dudeist skydiver #42

In that case, the procedure was mandatory by (outdated) regulations. Personally I think it`s not the way it should be thought and average student would have great difficulty doing all this things in right way and in available time. Still, not cutting away main had nothing to do with that fatality. It was more entanglement with spectra cord that connected main opening handle to the harness. dudeist skydiver #42

Yes, rocking movement left and right and then off-heading opening. You can see that on clip I attached. And this is good opening. Plus, I really try to be as symmetrical as I can. Why not go straight to JVX? Is semi-xbraced (i.e. arc-braced) really the next step to go? Maybe I`m wrong, but Xbraced is Xbraced and once you go that path, any stupid shit will hurt you. dudeist skydiver #42

I have seen yours DZ`s tandem videos and based on that... don`t consider gopro because camera guy with that thing must fly within hand-reach to get anything decent on video. And I suppose that is not going to happen. Plus low-light performance is poor and sound also. As I said, could be ok for handycam especially considering your video cabapilities. If you want really cheap, you can find cameras on local auction sites like limundo.com. Just yesterday I found PC-1000 for ~100eur. That is tape based, SD and sooo yesterday, but if you want it cheap... Attached are some gopro photos from one of our guys. He uses it as a still camera and you can see tandem is pretty far away. And his flying is not bad. dudeist skydiver #42

H/C is ~200 jumps old, same as canopy. Bought it new last season. PC is in good shape as it can be after that amount of jumps. I take care of my gear. Canopy is always searching left/right on opening, sometimes violently, often goes into diving turn after opening. Attached is an example of one of the BEST openings. You can see how it`s rocking me left/right. dudeist skydiver #42

Yup. I specially look for that. Openings are not fast or hard, just "twitchy". Not at all "tandem like", like other guys with Xfire have. dudeist skydiver #42

I would not call it "half deployed", more like "very comfortable". it`s 129 in 150-170 container. I used to pack a lot, for other folks, and they had no problem so I narrowed it down to container size. dudeist skydiver #42

My Xfire seems to be the twitchy exception. Probably b/c it is packed in an oversized container. dudeist skydiver #42

Maybe he is new at work Anyway, buddy of mine got himself a new Neos couple of weeks ago, and it`s killing him at about 50% of the openings. I don`t know if he is trying different packing methods. He had a crossfire before and no problems. dudeist skydiver #42

What about if the national regulations says that this is the right procedure? So it`s mandatory for every skydiving school? Yes, it sucks. dudeist skydiver #42

I jumped safire 139 at ~1.5 demoed xfire of the same size. Even if it felt better in flare, dive and lighter on the front risers it was still somewhat sluggish. Then I demoed 129 at 1.6, it was much, much different and I bought it in the end. Been jumping it for the last 200+ jumps. Now I think I need smaller, but instead I just wear weights. dudeist skydiver #42

Constructing a Door step for a Cessna 206?
mircan replied to freeflye73's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We started jumping utility c-206 couple of weeks ago. It has large step that you describe. I think I have a couple of photos, so I`ll post them later. It is porch size, so easy to float. dudeist skydiver #42 -
cx-105 with 0.5 HD lens. * GoPro is going to be useless unless there is some great new flyer over at your DZ. For handcam it`s OK though. dudeist skydiver #42

No. So you need a hype-eye for the flash-based cameras. Not necessarily. He can use that adapter/converter for Cameye that Laszlo make. Only for "on/off/start/stop" though. dudeist skydiver #42

I had similar problem with desktop PC. It was problem with RAM on graphics card. Changing the card solved the problem. OTOH, since this is laptop, I guess warranty could be viable solution. Maybe you could try updating drivers... dudeist skydiver #42

Oh, just up until recently there was THIS and more about it in WIKI, but last I heard it crashed couple of months ago... Anyone remembers Mad Max III? Couple of my buddies got lucky and jumped out of it. dudeist skydiver #42 -
