Are you Americans crazy enough to put Donald Trump in office?
gowlerk replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
I've got no comment at all on the racist attitudes of hill "Christians", the words speak for themselves. But as to who should and should not vote? Consider this: What percentage of registered voters actually vote? Overall, OECD countries experience turnout rates of about 70%, while in the U.S., about 60% of the voting eligible population votes during presidential election years, and about 40% votes during midterm elections. The problem is not too many "low information" voters. The problem is a population that can't even be bothered. And it's not all that much better up here in Canada. I'm not into the whole gun culture thing at all. But I do understand that guns are beautifully machined pieces of hardware, and that it's exciting for anyone when they get a new toy. I do question the wisdom of advertising your arsenal on social media. (not so much you, and here, as some of my FB friends) A little more discretion may improve security. Americans tend to regard weapons as toys. Because they are so common and such a large part of their identity. Shooting sports are a little like skydiving. Fun, but serious fun that needs to be well thought out. Enjoy you new weapon. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I'm with you on the simple things. Newest rig I've owned for myself is a '94 Talon 2. I drive an '03 Safari, because I like vans and AWD. And anyone who thinks American beer is bad should try the domestic Canadian crap. And...when I drink Scotch, I don't really care if it's single malt or blended and I'm not impressed by how much it costs. I'm now assuming that God sent Trump to the party in order to ensure a Democrat wins in the fall. She also called Scalia home to make his replacement an issue and help out down ballot. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free. -

And I'm really hoping that at least some of the ones who voted Trump are message senders. They don't really want him to be President. Please. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free. -
I could take the time to search for ridiculous statements made by Wattsup types, there are plenty. But it does not change the sea level or lower the temp. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-10-dumbest-things-ever-said-about-global-warming-20130619 my fav: "I'm no scientist but CO's what make plants grow and what make you breathe, so they're trying to choke us all out by stopping the burning of coal." or this gem: Limbaugh: “If you believe in God, then intellectually you cannot believe in manmade global warming.” Rush Limbaugh advised his religious listeners to choose between God and science on his Aug. 12 radio show, saying, “if you believe in God, then intellectually you cannot believe in manmade global warming … You must be either agnostic or atheistic to believe that man controls something he can’t create.” Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Damn, now global warming has affected my listening experience.

Google has never heard of it, nor the quote. Wherever you got it from I call bullshit. I think I found the source on some blog site. It is some sort of compilation. Someone who is not credible wrote those words in 2007 in an opinion piece. It is not a newspaper and not a news source. How is it relevant? I have been Canadian all my life, but I've never heard of this publication. (There is a train by this name) Where did you get this quote? Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free. -

Interesting take on WHY Carson is still hanging around. It's making a lot of money for some of his aides. www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/02/ben-carson-thinks-maybe-his-campaign-was-a-scam/470715/ That makes sense when you consider he also allowed himself to be used as a snake oil salesman. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a39465/ben-carson-mannatech/ Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Yes, as messy as democracy is the people count. More people voting is better. Elitism is not the answer. Trump is getting the support he is getting because so many GOP primary voters are rejecting what the party is giving them. And they are right. It is a combination of sending a message and a desire for a change. I don't believe Trump is really even particularly conservative. By now it is becoming clear he will be the nominee. And yes that is astounding. The meaning of this will be discussed for at least decades. But one thing is for sure, the people are not wrong, we just don't know exactly what it is they are saying. I am assuming Hillary with prevail in the fall, but at this point who can say? From up here in Canada it all looks pretty amazing. I give up. You have chosen what you want to believe. The evidence and opinions that Watt bring to you carry more weight than those of the many who are actually educated and study this. I could waste more of my time explaining that yes, the climate has changed before and will continue, but that the rate of change, in just a few decades is unprecedented. And that CO2 levels are easily measured and also rapidly increasing. But you won't care, you have decided. Just don't expect to be part of the real debate about what will happen to those power plants if that is all you can bring to the table. All you are is an ineffective sniper sitting on the sidelines expressing your frustration to a wider world that is laughing at you. I only vaguely know that they would have been difficult and expensive to implement and would result in needing to replace many of them with other sources. I don't know what percentage. But this is where the real debate should be. What to do? How far to go and how fast. What policies are worth the price and what are not. There are many good reasons to reduce coal consumption, but I agree, it can't be done too quickly. The argument should be over how quickly. There are valid points each way. But there is no argument warming is real. And I'd like to move past that. Watt likes to poke holes in the details of how things are measured. But he ignores the big picture. Sea levels are up, glaciers are retreating, CO2 is increasing. Who cares about the small details of where monitoring stations are located? It's a global, not a local phenomenon. You know better than I that coal is being displaced by gas for electricity generation. Something that is also unsustainable long term. The price of gas will go up as the demand eventually outstrips the supply. But this may be decades away. Coal consumption has powered large parts of the world, it's effect on the poor as often been far from positive. You seem to be worried that the government is going to suddenly decide to shut down the energy supply and that this will be bad for you. It isn't going to happen that way. We are going to stumble along making relatively small changes here and there slowly changing the mix of our energy supply. And working on lowering consumption. All the time hoping that the effects of warming don't become catastrophic. There is a chance they will. No one really knows yet. But we need to understand that the possibility exists. No one is calling for panic, just awareness and planning. The world economy is a huge ship and it is powered by energy. That is not going to change, but the ship is slowly turning as ships do. There is no debate. Just anger. You are not debating. And you are misreading me. I clearly said "we are not going to give up our lifestyles" and we aren't. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Which all comes back to the point. Global warming caused by green house gas is real and is man made. We are not going to give up our lifestyles short of being forced to by a complete "meltdown" of our society. There are more questions than answers about the extent of the effects and how well we can cope. It's not uncharted territory for the Earth, but it is for Mankind. We aren't as individuals going to make the difference in lowering or halting the increase in CO2. So that leaves us with a political debate about larger policy decisions that can help get us there. Slowly. So lets leave Watt and other deadenders behind and get on with the real debate. Whatcha willing or not willing to do about it? Those are real questions. I'm not going to stop jumping over it's carbon footprint, and I don't think anyone here is going to either. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. My wife will only drink Corona, and only frosty cold. Why? Because it kills the taste, that's the point. I will drink pretty much any beer at any reasonable temperature. Why? Because I'm not a beer snob. My favourite is Guinness, but many people don't even consider that to be beer. I wish I had been to one of those boogies. Europe is a big country. It's divided into several smaller "countrylettes". Some of those have banded together into a "zone" while others stand alone. Your question is not really an answerable one. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Yup, nylon, forged steel, aircraft from the 60's some designed in the 40s. Skydiving is low tech for me. It's like progress ground to a halt about when I was born in '57. Even my audible is the simplest one they still make. All I need now is a mechanical AAD. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia dead at 79

Oh, if it could only be so simple. Then you would not need an odd number, would you? You should read about the role of your SC. It has many roles. But the one you are talking about is actually "interpreting" the constitution. There's the rub. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free. -
Hey John, what kind of mileage do you get tooling around in the MG plaything of yours? Skydivers have no place criticizing other people's waste of energy and CO2 footprint. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Dude says he is going to make the cage square because parrots hate round cages and love corners. The bird is pretty much just dropping F-bombs in a very angry sounding voice. It sounds just as pissed off as it looks. F'en F, f' around, and f' off over and over. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

That may very well be correct. Probably the hassle of getting the order will be the only protection. Which would only stop the police from automatically searching the device at every single stop. People who are arrested will likely be able to count on having their phone searched. That is how it will probably be. It already is that way if you fail to password protect your device.
