Shut down early tonight. Stopped at an I-29 rest area in Iowa. The road is good here, but there is a blizzard going on 50 miles ahead and the road is shut down. It doesn't matter in the end exactly what happened. To those who believe in the cause, he is a martyr despite the fact that acted in a way that could only end in his being shot. Fairly easy for me. Respect is a two way street, where both sides show it and observe it. Appeasement is done according to one of the definitions "to yield or concede to the belligerent demands of (a nation, group, person, etc.) in a conciliatory effort, sometimes at the expense of justice or other principles." Italian officials yielded to the belligerents of Iran out of fear to offend at the expense of the principles Italians believe in. I see no indication that the Iranians asked them to do so. The blame seems to lie strictly with pandering, fearful Italian officials trying to make money. The people of Italy seem to have largely disagreed with them and are angry that their heritage was not proudly displayed. It looks to me like he "charges" out of the van at no one in particular, but he exits it very quickly and no one else does. He appears to have his hand up, or at least extended outward, but then clearly reaches for something on this belt when the armed officer approaches. After that another officer approaches from the opposite direction. It's not clear enough to see a weapon, maybe he is reaching for a cell phone.
