Yes, science is great. But it will never explain the things that we can never know. The great thing about religion is the way it can shape and mold things. There are no facts in religion, only nebulous "beliefs". And they can and do change whenever leaders can find new ways of filling new needs. No proof is needed, just follow the leader or be cast out. What kind of nonsense is this? No one here is hating on this man. We are offended by people of today stating that the slaves were happy in their place and time. We are against the people of today celebrating the wrongs of yesterday. The thing that kept most slaves in their place was fear. Nothing but fear. Either fear of punishment, or if they were in a better situation than most, fear of being "sold down the river". Think for a moment about that term. Imagine having to worry that your owner could sell you at any time. To any one, who could then work you to death if they wanted to. The whole society was run on a system of terror. That is the definition, root, and main purpose of religion. There is some truth in your statement. The object is to seek relationship with Christ by the Holy Spirit. If you have to move ten inches to make contact you do not know the Lord. Some people simply need to be conned. Guess which political party I think they prefer. I would slightly modify my statement. The Singer 20u is a good machine. It is full of compromises that enable it to do many jobs. It is a jack of all trades and master of none. Be sure to get a servo motor equipped one to help control it at low speeds. Your current machine is a plastic toy. The Pfaff 262 is a very well built dependable 60's era machine. It's a good choice for light work. I have one that I use for bartacks in lines. I'm never going to do enough work to make a real dedicated bartacker pay for itself. I've seen this crap before. The first thing they say is about how well the slaves were treated. The next thing they say is that it was actually for their own good because they're like children. I live in Winnipeg. One day in '79 I got up out of bed earlier than I wanted to because of all the hype about a total eclipse. About 10 AM or so IIRC. I walked out my front door and stood in the street with all my neighbours and the whole city I guess. The scene was pretty cool. I don't really remember what the eclipse looked like, but I do remember the party atmosphere. I also would not bother to travel or spend money to see another one. For the life of me I can not understand why you refuse to see that BLM was not born of one or two or even a hundred cases. It is born of centuries of violent suppression. BLM has many white members. This whole story misses a basic point. Almost all terrorism today is right wing. There is hardly no one more right wing than a fundamentalist.
