Whole Foods picks a fight with Canadian veterans

Hell, I think she is cute enough to have more than enough "flair" for that place! -
West Virginia was granted statehood to reward them for supporting the union and to punish Virginia for seceding.

I wonder if they will stick their noses into the white poppy controversy next! -
Whole Foods picks a fight with Canadian veterans

After doing a little research I think they must not be in tune with the culture here. They miscalculated because they believe that wearing a poppy is a political statement of some kind. They were involved in a controversy this year over not allowing BLM masks to be worn by employees. They took a stand that they would not allow their employees to make any such statements while on the job. They don't understand that wearing a poppy at this time of year is normal here and that not wearing one is more likely to be making a statement. -
The Trump clan is now demanding that "real Rs" who want to stay in good standing and compete for the future must join the dotard in his lies about the election being stolen from him. So far the party members seem to have their noses up in the air trying to sniff out which direction to turn. They are remaining silent for now because they can smell the blood.

In Canada a large part of how we mark Remembrance Day on Nov. 11 is to wear a small poppy pin. It is nearly universal. Whole Foods, which apparently has stores in Canada has unwisely decided to ban it's employees from wearing them. Something about it's uniform code. This has prompted an immediate and large scale uproar with talk of a boycott and a promise from the Ontario premier to introduce legislation. Right now. I'm sure it will pass unanimously if it comes to that. Meanwhile the House of Commons has already adopted by unanimous consent a resolution condemning the action. So far Whole Foods in it's "corporate wisdom" has doubled down. I am expecting a reversal before the end of the day. Canadians will not tolerate this. From a news report: Members of the House of Commons unanimously condemned the ban on Friday, adopting a motion “to condemn Whole Foods and its owner Jeff Bezos for banning its employees from wearing poppies on their uniform, and demand that the policy be reversed immediately.” They also adopted another motion unanimously inviting John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, to appear before the House of Commons veterans affairs committee within the next two weeks. The order means that Mackey, an American, either must appear voluntarily or else run the risk that the committee will issue a formal summons to be delivered by bailiff next time he sets foot in Canada.

I'm trying at realism. Changing the power structure involves someone losing power and someone gaining power. People can try lawyerly arguments about different ways of interpreting words, but clearly they already have more than a couple centuries of meaning one thing. Only some kind of force could make the small states cede power. What force would you think could be brought to bear?

Like I said, an interesting thought exercise but completely undoable

Sigh......It now appears that the "deep electorate" has been able to accomplish what the deep state was unable to. Namely restore decency to the highest office of the USA. But just barely. Congratulations and condolences to shell shocked winners and inconsolable losers. The badly wounded animal holed up in his cage spitting and hissing at the world will still retain considerable power. But he was never a lion and never a fighter but rather a cowardly opportunist and bully. In the end his self preservation instincts will kick in and he will crawl away licking his wounds.

There is no chance whatsoever of the US constitution being amended in a way that takes away any of the power granted to smaller states short of a second revolution. The requirements for amendments are quite clear. The popular feelings of the citizens on a national level are completely irrelevant. No one gives up power that they legally possess willingly. It is a complete non starter and it is pointless to even consider it except as a thought exercise.

When you consider the extreme disparity between the states in both physical size and population there is no good basis to consider this a good thing. It probably made some sense when it was first conceived, but the intervening 2 1/2 centuries of change have made it a serious liability to American democracy. The now emasculated and likely soon to be eliminated filibuster rules only compound this problem. The American right wing has always had a fear of democracy. Actually, all right wing movements the world over dislike the idea behind democracy.

Fear is the most powerful emotion and the best motivator. Distress over BLM was a related factor.

There was a recount done. What was stopped was an even more detailed recount being done manually. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_v._Gore

Matter of days? Well yes I suppose. But about 30 of them. Bush v Gore reached the SCOTUS on Dec.8 and was settled on the 12th.

It simply boggles the mind that so many Americans were and are willing to overlook or even find desirable the many character flaws of Trump. And it is not just Americans, he has many Canadian fans as well. Including my brother who I just agree not to speak of the matter with. I simply do not understand it.

Please do, thanks. I have a manual for the Trident version. And I was not aware there were other versions. REFLEX II™ Owner’s Manual Third Edition, February 2002 Copyright 2001 Is what I have. It does not have instructions to make the loop. I'm posting it for anyone who may want it. Reflex manual.pdf

Manitoba has great peat bogs. Google maps, Pine Dock MB. Close to the lake Winnipeg shore a little south of the airport. You can see the giant scar on the landscape quite clearly.

You can’t fight Big Peat.

You are out doing yourself with your level of absurdity today. Are you starting to get a little bit worried about the change that may come tomorrow? Or are you just trying to up the level of entertainment you provide us? -
I don’t recall you being correct about any other prediction in the past. And I don’t think this is going to do anything to change that record.
-
The supply chain seems to be doing fine just like Joe said. I’ll be delivering an urgently needed important load of peat moss to a greenhouse today. The only problem I see these days is an over supply of capacity because demand is down somewhat.
-
In that case you are hoping for a Biden win. It’s perfectly obvious at this point that there is no way Trump can win the popular vote.
-
That’s a pretty bold prediction. Especially from someone so far away from the centre of the pulse of the nation. But at least you have the courage to say what you believe.
