    covid-19

The virus is strong here in friendly Manitoba. The whole province is "code red" and in a shutdown about 60 to 75 % as all encompassing as the first one. Only 1.3 million people live here but we are having the highest rate in the nation. About 400 new cases a day. I know those numbers are small but it is quite high for us. Hospitals are not yet full but are starting to be stretched thin. Shutdown is said to be for at least 2 weeks but more likely 4 weeks. Today is day one.
  2. A battery fire in a wing would almost certainly result in a structural failure making glide, or any other controlled flight impossible in a very short time.
  3. The Beaverton doing a fine job of explaining why Canadians like me are saying "congratulations" but WTF is up with you guys? https://www.thebeaverton.com/2020/11/breaking-usa-does-bare-minimum/
  4. Well.....among Republicans, despite a few high profile dissenters support for Trump is astronomical. It is at unheard of levels. The numbers are startling. In Gallup's last pre-election poll, 94% of Republicans approved of how he was doing his job. Among "conservative Republicans," who comprise the majority of the GOP base, Trump's job approval was 97%. Yes, 97%!
  5. I'm not sure just what game Mitch is playing now. He has just said no to advancing another Covid crisis bailout bill. Either he is playing for more time so that he can do it closer to the special election to get more votes for the bucks, or perhaps he does not have enough support among his caucus to get it through. I would have to think holding it up would give the Ds something to hammer away at.
  6. I do not believe it is anywhere near that simple. It's not about a fistfull of dollars, rather it is the warm fuzzy feeling of being safe with your clan.
  7. I did and I agree. It is an unholy alliance between evangelical anti-choice fundamentalists and the urban/rural split which is another way of saying what Bannon called "identity politics".
  8. I do not understand how any thinking person could favour Trump over Biden. I do understand how some people can favour R policies over D policies in the aggregate. Even though I would not. So rather than think badly of most of them, including airdvr I choose to think it is a policy matter.
  9. I think that would actually be the Deep R States ignoring the voters and selecting Trump electors. That would trigger a real constitutional crisis. SCOTUS would then have to show its true colours. But at this point that is what people like Ron seem to be hoping for.
  10. Even if that were true, and it is not, hiding some of the things we do in private is something society expects of all of us.

Okay, but don't blame me if it doesn't work out and you get sick.

    covid-19

After 1.5 years of pretending to attend grade 9 a principal took my aside and asked "why are you doing this, why don't you just quit". So I did. I was almost 16 at the time.

Who are you going to trust, the seasoned experienced senior engineer, or a 40 year truck driver with a grade 8 education?

    covid-19

The term covers a lot of things. Dying of C-19 itself can be though of as dying from an immune system over reaction. The "covid long haulers" are thought to be suffering an auto immune condition.

    covid-19

Moderna has been trying for a decade to develop other types of drugs based on this. Not one has ever been approved mostly because of serious side effects. But this is a different application than any of the others. The past problematic ones have been based on modifying stem cells. They switched to vaccine development in 2016 and still have not had a successful product. They have been accused in the past of being an investment fund in search of a drug. This is bleeding edge biological tech. I do not know if your concern about induced immunological disease is a factor or not. But it is an interesting thought.
  16. The heathens out number the righteous in GA. It all comes down to who is motivated to vote in the run-off without all the excitement of the big contest. My money is on Ron.

    covid-19

There are quite a few caveats with that number. 90% efficacy in vaccines is almost unheard of. The current rate of infections has made the preliminary results come faster than they thought. But questions about what subgroups got the most protection and how sick those who did get the virus in spite of the vaccination are unknown. I have heard that the main reason they felt they had to release the results they have so far was that there was a danger of insider trading due to the number of people who had the info. By the end of the month there will be much more detailed results.
  18. Now that's as lazy an excuse as I've ever heard. Are you sure there is not a touch of good old "identity politics" in your decision to just accept his flaws?
  19. Once again Ron is the champion troll of SC!
  20. I agree. I believe they were the closest to the 50% needed. All the same it's a new fight. It all comes down to who actually votes as always and I must say your side has the better record in that department. It will be one heck of a battle for sure.

    Veterans Day

I'm not sure why you would post this in SC instead of Bonfire. I do hope it isn't controversial.
