  2. The FBI does make mistakes in forensic analysis. I once was involved in a case where a cassette tape recording was pivotal evidence. At issue was whether the recording was original or a copy and whether the recorded speech was continously recorded or a spliced together production. The FBI lab made fundamental errors in its analysis and their resulting conclusions that any EE would laugh at. They do a lot of things right but not everything. Maybe the FBI just messed up with the silver nitrate and used it inappropriately. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  3. Nope, never worked on an oil rig or wanted to. Good pay but no way would I want to live on one of those for even a week. Once got involved in a legal battle over a disasterous fatal fire on a North Sea rig. The insurers were certain that a malfunctioning diesel generator set started it but had no proof. They were trying to get surveillance satellite thermal images that might have shown the fire in its early stages. I worked for the manufacturer of the satellite of interest. The insurers wanted info on what it could image (delta T specs and spatial resolution) and what its orbit was during the duration of the fire. We refused to provide the info since it was a classified spook sat. They were asking the US Govt for the same info and got the same response. What was interesting to me is that they even knew what satellite to ask about. It was almost like they knew for sure what images were actually captured of the burning rig. Maybe they got tipped by a spook. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  4. I have quite a bit of IGLOO WHITE stuff Snow. Fake animal feces with geophone and VHF transmitter, fake rocks with radios too, an ASID antenna that visually mimics a jungle plant with a mini coax fitting on the base. I actually had one device explode on me. It was a covert transmitter that had a small explosive squib (about the size of a .38 cal blank) installed on a circuit board for remote controlled self destruction. That kind of stuff is never supposed to be released in surplus but this escaped intact. I was fooling around applying DC to various traces and KABOOM! No injuries but what a shock. I didnt recognize what the component was until it detonated. It trashed the PA and tuning circuit thoroughly. I also have GSQ 151 seismic intrusion sensors used by ground troops in Nam. A set has four VHF transmitters with geophones on spike mounts and a receiver. Each transmitter has a unique audio tone sequence sent when ground vibration is detected. Works REALLY well, very hard to get anywhere near a sensor without triggering a warning transmission even treading very lightly. What I don't have and do want is a CIA mini direction finder transistor radio and associated beacon. If I get one I want Billy Waugh to autograph it. These haven't shown up on eBay yet. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  5. Sluggo has traveled to do a DBC related interview and document inspection. So has Galen Cook. I made phone calls seeking 727 and SAGE info. Mostly we just search the Net. Bruce actually crawls out of the rabbit hole and deserves a lot of credit for REPORTING what he learned above ground. Sluggo treads tenderly here, but he raises a valid point about critically examining the issue of Fazio's memory. He reports seeing an extensive money particle field apparently deposited by a recent high tide, but nobody else does. How could such significant and visually obvious evidence be missed by everyone else investigating the site??? Why were no samples collected? Why would the FBI dig so much if it was obvious that all the money was on the surface? Your thoughts on this Bruce? Tidal variation in water depths are found far upstream in many major rivers that flow to the sea. Net current flow however is rarely upstream on a flood tide unless it is a dry summer with little downstream fresh water. NOAA publishes some current data for navigable rivers. Interesting how the Nam war shows up everywhere. One of the Fazios worked in what sounds like the Igloo White program which used electronic sensors to report ground activities to aircraft. Nice job Bruce! We all need to get out more. We are too much like spiders, all WEB all the time. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  6. Wow! Why is this information not in the public FBI files? How could Palmer have missed this?? It still makes little sense that samples were not collected and kept. Thanks for the post Bruce, very fun and informative reading. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  7. I owned a Navy surplus NB 8 for a while. I always thought the chest connect structure looked half assed, almost misrigged, with that twisted webbing. It just looked bad so I sold it and got a USAF harness container that (ironically) looked a lot more "shipshape". I still don't know why Troy wore a chest reserve in the Cooper jump reenactment if he had a modern skydive rig on his back. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 8. You have raised a valid point Snowmman. It's an accurate perception. You certainly get less than your share of breaks and are cut no "good guy" slack here. Now, why is it that way? Do you truly wish it were otherwise? You are held to a different standard for sure. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

  10. I think Snowmman was just joking about originating the propeller theory Georger. I don't know anything about the ability of prop "washback" or ship wakes to move things upstream. Perhaps Jerry has seen examples of upriver transport by these methods and can tell us how it operates. I will keep an open mind. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 12. I too have solved the case before lunch, many times. Like Chinese food, it doesnt stick to the ribs and by evening I hunger for a new solution. Was there a butler anywhere? I think the butler did it. That's as good a guess as any I have made. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  13. No prob Sluggo. If it isnt the FBI's opinion, fine, I stand corrected. Whoever expressed the propeller snag upriver transport explanation is employing a deus ex machina. It may have been the show writers who reached this unlikely conclusion. I do hope the program reaches folks who might know something relevant but didn't even know it until they saw the show. You never know. Jo hints of vast dirty govt. dirty laundry conspiracies but offers no evidence, just anguish. Conservative patriot Jo sounds like she is reversing course and expressing complete disgust over our governments practices amd policies. Post it Jo. Air it out. Let some sun shine on that dark stuff. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  14. Good job on the video bust Snow. Nailed him cold! PONED. Why was Troy wearing a chest reserve??? Wimps. They could have easily found a round a jumpable round. If Georger uses "Snowboy" again point him to Boy George's bio. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  15. Typical prop shaft speed on a typical ocean freighter would be 100-170 RPM, clockwise is normal rotation for fwd thrust, but a few are counterclockwise. Suicide jumpers from the Golden Gate bridge often float for a while after impact. Cooper had a bit of extra weight with the chute, whether deployed or packed. I think he would sink if he drowned in the river, but thats just a guess. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  16. The upstream propeller snag transport explanation is actually humorous. What do they call this in literature? "Deus ex machina"? This FBI explanation is really a classic use of the technique. "A deus ex machina means (literally "god from the machine") is a plot device in which a person or thing appears "out of the blue" to help a character to overcome a seemingly insolvable difficulty." I and every commercial fisherman has had too much experience with propeller snags. One of the most frightening things I have ever done was to free dive (no tanks no nothing) 300 miles offshore with a knife trying to cut a snagged and wrapped up illegal Chinese drift net off the prop of our vessel. It had wrapped up so tight that it stalled a very powerful diesel and put an immovable brake on the propshaft. It was exhausting, cold and scary. It is very easy to get snagged in what you are trying to cut, plus the heaving motion of the vessel compunds the problem. We hosed the bloody decks off really well then waited for a few hours hoping if sharks were nearby (and they almost always are) the scent would dissipate. It took hours of repeated dives but I finally got us going. Most boats today carry hookah rigs so you can have a continuous air supply. Back then the huge (some were 30 miles long) drift nets were new on the scene and we didnt realize how big a problem they would cause. The pirate drift netters would cut out big chunks of ripped net and just discard them creating big snag hazards but they didnt care. Those kind of drift nets are illegal worldwide but the Chinese still use them on phony flagged and named vessels. http://reliableanswers.com/general/driftnet_fishing.asp Commercial boats snag stuff a lot, mostly things that are floating like polyester ropes. If an item is on the bottom or even a few feet under your keel you usually will not snag it if you are moving. The dwell time near the potential snag is too short to suck it into the prop when you are moving. Maneuvering (eg docking with a lot of fwd and reverse motion in a small area) in shallow water you can suck snags off the bottom and foul your prop. Interestingly most complex "ropey" things that you snag end up retained in a mess between your foreward prop hub and the prop shaft even if you break free of the rest of it. Boats install "spurs" to aid in staying free of snags and avoiding shaft wraps of leftover junk. Big ships usually dont use spurs and depend instead on their massive HP to cut through anything they encounter. I doubt if Cooper would be floating after a river landing and drowning. I know that C9 type chutes sink because we use them as sea anchors and have to install a float attached to a line that ties onto the apex. The prop snag transport theory sounds absurd to me. If Cooper was snagged it would be very brief before the blades cut him loose and centrifugal force flung him clear of the vessel. I just dont see a plausible scenario where he is transported miles up stream. Dredge transport (of the money) makes more sense to me than prop snag transport Prop speeds and sizes vary wildly. Prop speeds on big freighters are quite slow, 150 RPM is typical at cruise speed. This "spurs" website tells you something about prop snags. It has many animated videos in different parts of the website. Take a look at all of them and you will get a feel for the mechanics of prop snags. http://www.spursmarine.com/ship_main.htm 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 17. Was unable to watch, no cable/sat TV at my place. I'd like to see a few post show synopses and critiques posted here. How was it? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  18. Can you give us a comparative rating Sluggo? If you could only have one guiding light would it be Snowmman or Billy Graham? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  19. It would be funny if Waugh were Cooper but knows nobody can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt (the criminal conviction standard). Addressing Jo as maam, sending a cover from the Dan Cooper comic and being vague about an alibi... what a great tease. His interaction with Jo was quite odd. Don't know what to read into it. He could have so easily ignored her. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  20. OK, fair enough, but precisely when did Ckret continue to wax eloquent about something after being shown that he was wrong, not just being shown that there was a difference of opinion on something? Did he continue to say Nam vets are not viable candidates after being shown that they were? Waugh may not be Cooper, but he looks the FBI sketch and has VERY relevant jump and evasion experience. Right age, right skills, right appearance. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  21. If the FBI's investigation was just tip chasing then I can see your "bullshit" conclusion, but how can you be sure that they didn't dig deeper? Even if Jaco was found by tip chasing it could be a productive lead. If a sharp FBI agent (and there are a few) talked to Jaco and Jaco was cooperative, the agent would likely learn about some better suspects who had Nam HALO experience. Even if Cooper had no connection to the Nam/SE Asia war, it is a place rich with possibly relevant info, rainy night HALO jumps into hostile terrain, 727 jumps, smoke jumper/CIA work etc. It bears scrutiny in any competent Cooper investigation for that reason. Hard to understand why the FBI would not have taken a good look at it beyond just a tip generated interview with Jaco. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 22. Very surprising given Ckret's stance on the irrelevance of Nam vets. It appears to show a smarter FBI than we thought though. Can you throw them that bone Snow? Would really like to know how intense the FBI focus was on Nam RT/SOG vets. They had to know who Waugh was if they knew who Jaco was. Don't you think? Although I will surely get the kiss butt label for saying this, isn't it possible that Ckret is just mistaken rather than "full of shit"? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 23. When did Bush Jr ever jump? On the rare occasions when he reported for ANG pilot duties I guess sitting in an F 102 ejection seat put him in a parachute. Same with his absurdly stupid MISSION ACCOMPLISHED carrier landing in an A6. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  24. Wish Roger Nelson was still alive. He was a DZO who got into aerial drug smuggling. I wonder what he thought about Cooper? I bet he had a few ideas. Snow and Georger will both enjoy this excerpt from Nelson's biographical novel. Ham radio HF gear was used to communicate with his drug hauling aircraft. http://www.sugaralpha.com/4301.html 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver.
