Aw common. I thought it was funny....... Seriously though, this question has been asked 20 times in the past couple weeks and there are tons of threads about it. Use the search function above and you will find lots of info.

I doubt a urine sample will reveal tobacco use, check though. They will most likely be doing a hair sample. If this is the case, there are some products out there that are made for cleaning the hair. Best of luck

I just went to my first not long ago, prepare to have fun! On the top of your screen there is a tab called "safety", click it, and click on boogie safety. There is some more info you should be able to find by searching as well. Make sure when you get to the boogie, get a briefing and watch the landing pattern for a few loads before you go up, unless you are already familiar with the dz.

Giving Our Sport a "Black Eye"
LongWayToFall replied to freeflymickey's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The biggest black eye would be the media not reporting on the sport at all, even if it was bad news. If some whuffo never hears the word skydive, then why would he just think it up one day and do it? The fact that people are dying means people are actually skydiving. The media reports even more about car and plane crashes, yet that will not prevent the average person from taking part in those activities. The people that are most affected by injuries or fatalities, are the ones that see them first hand. You can bet if someone is at a demo and sees a jumper die, the chances of them going out for a tandem is going to be less. Just like seeing a fatal car crash, you would drive safer. Something about seeing the blood and guts and screaming changes you more than a newspaper article, does it not? Lots of people think "I'm going to be that guy". No amount of education of the public is going to change anything, all we can rely on is the education of the media to provide an accurate account of the incident. "His chute did not open" makes it seem like only a gear related problem, and that there was nothing you could do. Like your car exploding while driving down the freeway. However, if it is better explained, "This jumper was using a high performance parachute, such as a race car driver uses a very fast car. He misjudged the timing of the landing, and impacted much too hard." Then it can be seen that it isn't the fault of the nature of skydiving, but of human error. The reader would then take it out of the "this could happen to me if I do a tandem" category -

Giving Our Sport a "Black Eye"
LongWayToFall replied to freeflymickey's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Injuries happen, deaths happen. Its not all bad that they are in the news, in some ways it is publicity for the sport, even if it is bad. Take this for example. You are reading the news, and see that someone was killed rock climbing for whatever reason at a location that is close to you. You say, hey, I didn't even know they climb over there, I gotta check that out. Or what about the news title "Man killed after jumping his bicycle off of roof in attempt to land in pool" personally, I would find this interesting and think about building a jump at a local lake or something so I could do it myself. People manage to kill themselves doing some cool stuff, and that is why you hear about it. Nobody cares about grandma dying from an allergic reaction. Its these cool ideas that drive people to go out and do new things. It might be the fact that as skydivers we have a pull towards danger a little bit, but it seems like some of the best things in life are pretty dangerous and that makes it even better. It helps our sport maintain its position as the "King" of extreme sports for the common person (tandem). Wind tunnels are cool, but nobody goes "wow, YOU were in a wind tunnel? extreme!". The danger is what allows people to feel free when they jump. They are cutting loose from a normal life. When a whuffo hears about a skydiving death they aren't going to think how dangerous jumping is, they already think that. Its when bystanders get hurt that we have a major problem, and risk harming the future of our sport. -
I don't think its wrong to call someone you only know a bit a "friend". It does less harm then saying they are not your friend. What is really annoying though, is when someone tolerates a person that is not trustworthy, and calls them a friend. I think that if someone cannot be trusted, then they should have no friends. I will sometimes be introduced to someone, a friend of a friend, and only after hanging out with them for some time will I find that they have no morals and I would prefer not to be around them. I then have to ask my friend, why did you tell me this person is cool when they aren't? I think a good person is someone who surrounds themselves with people they can trust, like "I'm outta town can you take my wife/daughter out to dinner" or go into your house when you are not there and you know they will not take your stuff. These are the people who are your true friends, or good buddies, not just "friends". So, keep true friends close. If you hang out with asshats it just reflects your own lack of self respect

The ones that dance are considered crazy by the ones who cant hear the music. There has to be a quote thats the opposite, like "The deaf guy is considered crazy by the ones who know that his fart was not silent"

When I first jumped the canopy I have now, I induced spinning line twists because I was too aggressive on the toggles. I had been jumping student gear that wasn't very responsive and this canopy is pretty zippy and bit me. Be gradual with your inputs and you will stay out of trouble

What happened on your sub-terminal opening that you didn't like? Mine have been butter smooth. If you want to build up your comfort level, work on getting stable and deployed as quickly as possible, pretend its an aircraft emergency or something.

God forbid you die. She's probably taping the keg right about now..... Don't worry. You aren't missed near as much as you think you are.

What is your game of choice? Chill in an alley and drink hard liquor from a paper bag? Man, if you can't play beer pong you have no chance of respect in a college atmosphere. Flip cup is cool, but the technical aspects of beerpong make it superior. Also, no chasing balls if you gots da skills yo.,,...
