Great post, Bigun! I hereby nominate Bigun for new Speaker's Corner Moderator! I thank you, good people: there shall be no money; All shall eat and drink on my score; and I will apparel them all in one livery, that they may agree like brothers and worship me their lord. Oh dear, no. That is not now, nor has it ever been the way it worked. Prove your assertion with quotes from the Constitution and BOR, then. So . . . then . . . you were ok with slavery before you were against it? Show the text and make your case, then. You doubt that at one time slavery was allowed by the US Constitution? Seriously? http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_slav.html Actually, you, John and Mike are all right. You are guilty of citing a source that scripts the "recognition" of slavery for the use of determining representation and taxes to the federal government; not as endorsement of slavery. Indians too had an effect on taxes and representation, but nobody's screaming injustice there. Now I'm not going to sit here and type until my fingers bleed on the keyboard trying to package up not only the decision process for the constitution; but also every paper written by our forefathers on slaves and guns for which you three have turned into a kitchen sink discussion. I'll say it again... All three of you are right. Each of you are taking a sliver of early American history and using it as an argument for your own position. Paul's right because "Some" would say that recognizing enumeration is tacit endorsement. Mike's right in his quote of the BOR, but some things happened resulting in major debates before the constitution and voting on the BOR. To end the debate, the Bill of Rights came up for voting. Eight "clusters" of rights were accepted. John is right because (and I'm going to side with him on this one heavily) BECAUSE... Our Forefathers argued for a long time about the protection of rights in the constitution. They argued about the impossibility of making a complete list of these rights. They argued about the danger of listing those rights in amendments. There was general agreement on the meaning of rights as "Natural Rights" and they were defined as [IIRC] a boundless collection of rights and liberties. There was a ton of rights debated all of which could not be listed and hence, the Ninth Amendment (Explained). The Tenth Amendment was then created to restrain the government to the enumerated powers and leave the full set of natural rights to the people. as explained here. Go to your rooms. It's bed time. EDIT: Credit to previous readings... http://www.reasontofreedom.com/enumeration_rights_clause.html (I paraphrased some of his work and then found the actual website.) so in your system you don’t attribute the crime to the minor, ergo the criminal? this thread was brought about due to the kids in the UK (mostly middle to late teens) being turned into the cops by their folks for committing crimes. my comment was in relation to your post where you seemed to fail to address the repercussions (consequences) of those crimes, nothing about societal redress for crimes against society. more about the poor innocent crim, who might not get a job or mom and dad have to pay some money. Cue Barretta Theme song here.....Dont do the crime if you cant do the time...... OK. I see where we went sideways on this. In no way was I focusing on the act/result as much as I was on the question's results if asked another way since there were a number of "Yes' Votes" at the time I posted. Sure its easy for folks to say they'd turn their kid in... now re-read my question to see how that might give people pause and reason to respond differently. You and I both know that being faced with one's child being prosecuted that could jeopardize their future AND cost the parent's tens of thousands of dollars in either restitution and/or legal fees... might just sit at home and wait to see if Little Johnny got caught on camera. I'm a little confused: If I don't turn in my child; they stand a good chance of being injured or killed? Therefore, if I DO turn in my child; they stand a good chance of NOT being injured or killed? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

What does "open concealed" mean? They allowed concealed carry with no permit. (I assume that is what it means). You can still get a permit if you want it to establish reciprocity with other states. It was an error. There is "Concealed Carry" and "Open Carry" of which Wyoming is the latter. They are not mutually exclusive. Virginia allows open carry (no permit required). It also allows concealed carry with a permit. The rules are a little different. Please read the entire reply. I was addressing the term "Open Concealed" of which there is none. There are two categories that are mutually exclusive in definition, but not necessarily exclusive in practice - Open Carry and Concealed Carry. It would entirely depend on the crime committed. Your diatribe does not include anything about any sort of restitution or possibility of recidivism Dis you miss the part about "financially" libel? As to recidivism... that might depend on how much it costs the parents and the beatings that ensue. No i didnt, but you are talking about what the PARENT is liable for, I am talking about restituion from the criminal. Maybe I'm missing your point, Squeak. Her question was about "your child" for which the parent can be held financially liable. If one reaches the age of majority and is a criminal, then; you're right, I didn't address that because it wasn't part of the question. Louis L'Amour was a fiction writer. Ya know, you've really got to read more. He wasn't _just_ a fiction writer. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

That is a very poorly worded question as it deliberately pushes people in one direction... I think the examples I gave (including one about the effect of a police record on future employment opportunities) was sufficient to highlight the dilema. It must be a poorly worded question if one of the answers can't be "boobies." Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

I wonder if the results would be the same if the question had been worded as: Would you turn in your child knowing that any record would prevent them from pursuing academic, military or employment opportunities and you were found financially liable for restitution? There is a very good reason women have children and not men. They know how to share their boobies. We would not. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

I used to tighten it down an extra inch and tell them, "There, that's about as tight as it's going to get" to give the student a little extra sense of psychological security before we left the plane... had nothing to do with how I'd fit it on the ground; just kinda helped to make them relax a little in freefall. Most people are too stupid when it comes to kids and dogs to realize neglect is a form of abuse. I just love it when people get A [one] dog, throw it in the back yard with the six foot high fence and play with it when it's convenient for them. My S/O (the Vet) is currently down at the clinic where they're having an adopt-a-thon. Beautiful dogs and people just get them as some kind of novelty, tire of them, abandon them, etc. Although I was _involved_ in a very light way with the rescue and adoption folks, I don't participate in them anymore for two reasons, 1) I just get pissed, and 2) there's too many twits and it's a losing battle. If ya can't spend a couple of hours a day with your pets; do you, them and everyone else a favor and just let it pass...
