Just a quick note... I choose to PLF when I can, but learned to slide effectively when hauling meat to protect the student. One thing to remember on a high speed landing and PLF's is... When PLF's were devised, there were no reserve parachutes on your back so rolling across the shoulder blades was no problem. There is no such thing as failing a jump. That comes from the old AFF 7 level program. The US now uses "Categories" in which there are more than one jump in each category as you progress. If you don't meet the objectives for that dive in that category,, you simply remain in that category until you've met the objectives. Please take into account two things, 1) Most static line DZs are weekend only operations, and 2) whether you go AFF OR Static-line, both instructional methodologies will have you complete the performance objectives at approximately the same 25 jumps required for the "A" license. Sure, that's going to be true about any type of Instructor/Professor/Trainer in any industry. There will always be those who are ticket punchers and those who are passionate about teaching. And, even for those that are passionate; when it wanes, take a break and come back when and if the passion returns. The way I see it... As long as the ratings remain an evaluation process and not an Instructor Training Course, the issue will always be there. With an ITC, Instructors would be held to a training standard AND evaluated. Those I/E's would then have longer to train Instructor Candidates and there would be more time to coordinate audits of I/E courses to maintain their rating.
