I find it interesting that you are mixing metric with standard measurements ... did the USA finally figure out that the metric system makes a lot more sense???

Well ... isolated is one way to refer to it ... lots of big trees and no houses near us on the south side ... much of the neighbourhood did arrive when all the firetrucks came screaming up the street! We live in a "rural" area!

When we came came home from a camping trip a few years ago, I was putting away the gear, and my wife was putting away stuff, when we both smelled smoke. About 60 or 70 metres south of our home, a brush fire was raging ... my wife (closer to the phone)than I) called 911 mighty fast, and the firefighters arrived in time to put the fire out before our home was damaged ... they did have to spray a lot of water onto our cedar-shake roof to make sure the burning embers landing in it didn't ignite it! And another time, very near Christmas about 10 years back, a co-worker had a heart attack as our noon news broadcast was on the air ... we called 911, and the first responders arived in moments, as their fire station is just across the street!

I bet you wouldn't even have read the article if not for the sensational headline. So that means it worked. It got your attention ... and now this newpaper can tell it's advertisers they have another reader, and they can bump up the price of the ads! -
A skydiving aquaintance of mine has a government approved grow operation -- a VERY sophisticated grow op -- in his apartment. He is parapalegic with other medical issues ... this dude has done a whole wack of tandem jumps ... anyway, his legal grow op is really cool -- meets fire and electrial building codes, etc!

The winds were extreme that weekend ... part of the big storm that pounded the west coast from Canada to Mexico ... I'm were they were gusting to 60mph or more! ... the senior jumper on the load is just a handful of jupms short of 1000 ... he should have known better -- and is paying the price now for his poor judgement. No one even landed NEAR the intended spot. I'm told by the junior jumper on the load that he was very scared on the plane, but trusted the judgement of the pilot and more experienced jumpers ... the pilot - fairly new to flying jumpers, trusted other people's judgement ... he would have stood down if he knew the how the junior jumper felt !!! This is a perfect example of knowing to trust YOUR OWN judgement ... and not go with flow, expecting that others can make safe choices for YOU! Glad you are not too busteded up, Hovey!

ahhhh ... NO! Shit happens. Good things happen. My friend's sister and her new husband were in that bar in Bali when terrorists detonated two bombs, killing 2 hundred people. Nothing more than a coincidence. I think it's great that you care enough to help out your granmother and your friend. That is a good thing. But I do not believe in "karma".

Bill, you know none of those things have really happened. Were are all slaves to giant corporations, working, shopping, living to make a few men repulsively rich. Maybe we live under different conditions than the Africans who were forced into slave labour in America, but we are still slaves, nevertheless. Many women do not have equal rights. They have not reached financial equality when compared to men in the similar jobs. A very small percentage of coporate leaders are women. And how many of your countries political leaders are women? And the air is more polluted now then ever before. The USA will not sign the Kyoto Accord. Your president himself is an oilman -- who is facilitating -- and indeed encouraging the production of more fossil fuel. Sure, there has been a lot of hard work by people in the right direction, but we are VERY FAR from any sort of utopian society.
