Won't be able to jump again until Dublin, and after that am praying to be able to get in at least one or two jumps a month, so I'll take the A in the pocket now rather than waiting another year to get those dozen jumps. Killing threads since 2004.

Mmm...peanut brittle. That would be the perfect topping to the big New Year's Day dinner we just had. Too many people here though. Grandparents in town, aunt and uncle (from PA) showed up on the doorstep yesterday morning to surprise everyone. Another aunt and her partner are over. Too much! Have LOVED being with my family for the last 6 months but CANNOT WAIT for my move down to Florida a little later this week. Killing threads since 2004.

Woo hoo! Just faxed my completed A license card to USPA along with a credit card number for $20 I don't have!!! Did my first two jumps today after hurting my ankle a little while back and brought my dad and two brothers out for tandems. Thanks Hans and Woody (and everyone else we spent the day hanging out with) they had a blast and I think finally understand how I can spend so much time at The Farm even when not jumping. Also, found out I'm probably back in town a day earlier than I thought so I might just be able to drove over to join the Flor-a-Bama festivities on Saturday night!

All about the order they give them to you in. I've done this a pile of times since it was first posted and gotten everywhere from 48% with 100 mile error to 98% with 2 mile error (got that one just now). I'm good to go as long as I can take care of the East, midwest and Southern states first! As far as I know all those boxy states out west look the same! This brings back awful memories of History class back in school. We had some sort of test (for extra credit I think). Teacher handed out three versions, one with a list of state names where you had to list the capitals, a blank map where you had to list the state name and capital, and one with 50 blank lines where you had to name the states and capitals without the help of a map. Of course I got the completely blank one. I got 49 states and capitals listed and blanked on the 50th one. Go figure, it was New Hampshire, the state I had just moved from a couple years before. This thing is kind of an eye opener. I mean, whoever knew that Colorado was so southern! Killing threads since 2004.

Just rented it, throwing some low budget frozen pizzas in the oven and getting ready to sit down and watch it. Can't wait! Killing threads since 2004.

Mmm...usually Glenlivet for me, but sometimes either Oban or the 12 yr Macallan. Killing threads since 2004.

Forget getting a sitter. Bring 'em along and we'll all watch them in Dublin. I mean, you might even make some money (or at least some ) offering llama rides around the bonfire! Maybe we could even have the goats race the Orfuns. Killing threads since 2004.

Hey everyone. One of my best friends from college is a member of a percussion ensemble named So Percussion. WNYC in New York is hosting a "New Sounds" poll to name the top 10 new groups and I'd love to see them make the list! If you have just a second, visit http://www.wnyc.org/music/nspoll/. You just scroll down to So Percussion, click the box and hit the submit button and you're done. All votes are appreciated! If you are interested in percussion music at all, check out their website at http://www.sopercussion.com/. There are a few audio and video samples in the media section. Killing threads since 2004.

Nope, not at all. My brother and I have made it a tradition to go out shopping together on the 23rd each year. Occasionally it backfires and someone ends up with an IOU for a great idea that we couldn't pull together in time, but the family is used to it! Killing threads since 2004.

My parents have the street pilot. It annoys me to death when she has it on constantly driving around the town that we moved to in 1985, however I borrowed her jeep recently to start moving myself to Florida and I was amazed at how handy it was. It made getting to know a new area really great. After a day of inputting where I wanted to go I stopped routing and just watched the maps as I was driving here and there and it was amazing how much quicker I learned my way around than I would have just by trial and error. I don't like how I ended up just relying on it completely though for the drive up and back the first time or two. I can see how if you don't have a very good sense of direction you could get yourself very lost if you lost your signal or something and couldn't rely on it. Killing threads since 2004.

I just saw the new article on the homepage regarding stretching for freeflying. Just thought I would throw out the name of a book that has been really great for me. It's simply called Stretching (http://www.stretching.com/). It's very simple in its illustrations and descriptions, and you can browse stretches by both specific body area or by activity. They have suggested stretching regimens for tons of different sports, and even for things like sitting in an office chair all day, and typing. It came highly suggested to me by several docs (independently) that I saw following a back injury kayaking a few years ago, and I always recommend it to anyone that will listed. So, consider it recommended! Killing threads since 2004.

Holiday Party Boogie @ The Farm - DEC 11&12
FlyingJ replied to pyke's topic in Events & Places to Jump
NOOOOOO!!! I was really looking forward to this happening and driving out from Panama City, but I'll be in Orlando that weekend, and the next weekend start a string of weekend traveling that goes through mid-March. DOH! Shrek - give me a call and let me know about your party. I make the final move down to your part of town next week and will be without internet access for a while. Killing threads since 2004. -
Welcome to dz.com! You'll find that there are a ton of fellow scuba divers here. Do a search and you'll find several threads about diving. Actually, one of the coolest things about this site is that you can pretty much find several people in every imaginable occupation enjoying every imaginable passtime. Killing threads since 2004.

You don't know either, do you. Uh, not sure what you mean. If it wasn't clear, I meant that if you have a mouse with a little wheel inbetween the right and left buttons, in most browsers if you hold down control while rolling it the text size will change. Killing threads since 2004.

hehe...I've already arranged to borrow my sister's laptop w/ a wireless card to bring with me on my next trip down there! That's what I'm really hoping for! Killing threads since 2004.

If you have a "wheel" mouse trying holding down the CTRL key and moving the wheel back and forth. That should adjust the size of the font in your browser window. Killing threads since 2004.

I don't think so, not if Netzero and other ISPs like that really are $9.95/month. In the area I'm moving to (as far as I've found so far anyway) minimum cost for high speed is $40/month and that's if you are already paying for cable, which I won't be. The only paid for dial up I've ever used was Prodigy, which my parents got in the very late 80's, early 90's. The replaced that after I left home when AOL came out and still use it. Other than prodigy, I've always used either a college connection or Netzero when it was actually a free service and you just had to deal with an ad banner on your screen the whole time. That's really the kind of thing I'm looking for now, something free based on advertising, but it looks like the few freebies that used to exist are gone. Killing threads since 2004.
-
hehe...thanks for the offer of the modem. Yeah, I feel the same way about dial up, but for the next year or so I guess I'll be living my online world like it was 1995! I'm about to spend a year volunteering and more than half of the living stipend is going to rent, so I made the choice that paying electric and eating at least a couple times a day will probably have to take precedence over high speed internet! We'll see. I might think differently after a few months though! Killing threads since 2004.

Hey everyone, So what are the cheapest internet service providers around these days? I've been spoiled with high speed cable and or dsl for the last 5 years or so but with my new job and apartment unfortunately high speed is not in the budget. Before I got highspeed I had used Netzero (when it was actually free) for a few years. Of the bottom of the barrel providers, which ones have you had experience with? Thanks, jason. You should PM Popsjumper and CrazyRick on here. Or do a search on their messages. They posted about a jump that a family member made a few months back. Killing threads since 2004.

I've never been down to the site. At first I just thought it was totally tasteless how it instantly became a tourist attraction, but then realized it wasn't that people wanted to see it that upset me, I can understand that, it was the people taking advantage of it that made me sick. My former kayak club is not far away so I spent a lot of time in the neighborhood and I was in total awe at the kind of things people had the balls to do. People selling shirts to commemorate their visit, reprints of photos of the event, etc. Just makes me sick. Sorry...I didn't really plan on writing all of that, but it was something that really got to me. Like I mentioned, I can understand why people want to see the memorial and the site. The reason I hit reply in the first place was to say that anyone else going should make sure to stroll over to Battery Park. A memorial was constructed of the globe that used to sit in the middle of the WTC plaza, and an eternal flame sits in front of it. For a couple years I really felt that the only memorial I needed was my personal memory, but I was really affected the first time and everytime thereafter that I saw the globe. Edited to add: just want to make sure it's clear that I wasn't bashing the visit. Just the people making money off of turning it into more of an attraction than a memorial. Damn Robby. I guess I left just a little bit too early. Sounds like the talk after your first jump about how you hadn't even gotten a splash of mud on you kind of bit you in the ass, huh? I hear Publix has Shout stain remover on sale this week. Killing threads since 2004. -
Thanks again to everyone that posted and sent me messages with advice regarding Panama City. I'm happy to say I signed a lease on a great little apartment right near the beach. For those that know the area I'm just over a mile from the end of Thomas drive on the far East end of the beach. Three blocks in one direction to the beach and two blocks in the other direction to Grand Lagoon. My new job is based in St. Andrews State Park so I'll even be able to ride my bike to work. Randomly drove past the place and saw guys working so we stopped to ask if they would be renting. The guy that just bought it and fixed it up happens to be a skydiver. Hasn't made a jump in 5 years or so since he became a pilot, but said that he'd love to get back out to a dropzone. Thanks again! Killing threads since 2004.
