You know what's completely fucked up? I thought about your damn ass while I was sitting there watching the show with my three young cousins. I couldn't help but think about you sitting in the center of the laser hanger at Dublin a couple years ago just smiling away, oblivious to all but the shiny lasers! Killing threads since 2004.

Did you stay for the laser show at night? I saw it over the 4th of July after not seeing it since I was in high school. I didn't like it quite as much, but it is still a pretty cool thing to sit there and watch a laser "movie" (don't know what else to call it) on the side of the mountain. Killing threads since 2004.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Both laptops are a Dell Lattitude Cpi. I had one for about 6 years before the hard drive and power supply crashed on me. The second one I just picked up on eBay for $70. The eBay one has a good hard drive and power supply but a less than spectacular screen, so I thought I'd use it as a donor and get the original one up and running. Killing threads since 2004.

A bit of tech help needed... I have a laptop that runs fine while plugged in, but won't recognize that a battery is installed. I can't confirm that the original battery is good, however I just tried a battery that I know to be good and fully charged and it did not work either. Might this be a power supply problem, or if the power supply were bad would that stop it from working at all, even when plugged in? If so, is swapping the power supply from a donor laptop something I (with reasonable technical ability) could do? I have two almost identical laptops now, one with a messed up screen and one with this power supply issue. Ideally I would like to get the laptop with the good screen running. Any suggestions? Ruffino Chianti Classico In my last job as an event planner I did two or three dinners for 1,000+ per year and always had the unfortunate task of figuring out what to do with the cases of wine that were purchased but didn't get used. Somehow I always manged to make sure that there was at least one favorite of mine among the mix! The best part was that the caterer always uncorked a bit more than they needed, so after every gala was a "drink the wine before it goes bad" party. Oh the glorious hangovers that were SO worth it! Which event was this for? I used to be an organizer for the kayak swim support for all of the NYC SWIM sponsored races as well as for the various multi-event races that happened in town. I get to do an awful lot of fun kayaking down in Florida, but so far I haven't been able to beat paddling in NYC harbor, and especially can't beat being there as people jump into the Hudson for the first time helping them to make it through the "death defying ordeal" they all think it will be. I've been out of touch with improvements to technology lately, but as of a couple years ago there was no way to do this. Someone sure could make a few bills creating a program that would allow it though! Killing threads since 2004.

I was lucky enough to have a somewhat similar experience with my grandmother. I grew up not really knowing her very well. There were visits, but she was always just "grandma that lives all the way up in NJ." As I was finishing college I knew I wanted to move to NYC but couldn't figure out how when my roommate jokingly suggested moving in with my grandma! It was an interesting phone call, and an odd bit of adjustment time, but they were six months that I would never give back for anything. We became so close, and via daily lectures I gained a whole new respect for the use of credit cards and savings accounts. I moved into NYC but we stayed very closely in touch. She moved in with relatives down in West Virginia and not long before she passed away decided to give all of her kids/grandkids money from her estate so she could see us enjoy it (of course, what she really meant was so that so she could hear us all tell her that we were investing every penny). She new me better than that. I called her to brag about the beautiful new kayak that her money was going to help me purchase, and how I couldn't wait to get out on the water with it. Pheeewwweee did I get a lecture out of that one. Whenever we talked there was a slight tone of resentment about "blowing it on a boat." When she got really sick the docs were able to give the family enough warning that all of her kids and grandkids from all over the country were able to meet at the hospital at the same time. We each had alone time, and when I talked to her for the last time she had me open the drawer next to her bed and she pulled out a picture of me in the kayak and the last thing she said to me was "keep paddling." Ok - who has gotten into seed ticks before and WTF did you do to get rid of them all! In the past I've just used a piece of 2" clear packing tape, kind of like a lint brush, to to get most of them off but I've never run into a batch like the one that got me this afternoon and tape just ain't gonna' do the trick! For those that have no idea what I'm talking about, seed ticks are just baby ticks, but they hang out in very large groups (hundreds to thousands) so when you happen to brush past the tree they are hanging onto you don't just get one tick, you get the whole shabang (is that really a word?). The worst part is they are near impossible to see, most are significantly smaller than the head of a pin. I think I met up with at least a half dozen hungry little groups today and I'm about to go insane! I deal with ticks on a daily basis, but this crap is like nothing I've experienced before! "chicken liver good enough for bait?" Just plain hot dogs work for me. I've got a nice little pond next door - bait's usually in the water for 10 or 15 seconds before they are biting like crazy. Unfortunately I have to rely on the stupid one to actually get hooked- the rest just steal the bait! Edit: 'course, I don't know a damn thing about fishing. Just pop that hot dog on the end, drop a line in the water and hope something gets stuck on the hook. Killing threads since 2004.

Wow - so amazing. Have always wanted to go up to spend a summer busting ass and come home with some money but never really thought about how beautiful a work enviornment it is! Killing threads since 2004.

I thought the exhibit was absolutely amazing. I'm not sure that some pictures of it can do it justice though. I went in a little weary of what I was going to see, but the way it was presented was incredibly fascinating, educational and tasteful. Killing threads since 2004.

Hmmmpf...Currently on the bench because of an ankle burn that keeps me from putting a shoe/boot on. Kind of nice to spend a day in the office with A/C and a computer, but today is day 3. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Killing threads since 2004.

Oy...that sucks, doesn't it. Especially when there are half a dozen vehicles watching you do it without anyone chiming in to give you a warning! My dent's not that bad, how about yours? Killing threads since 2004.

Nah, but I know a guy named Mike (that I run from when I see) that you described perfectly. If you were in Florida I would have thought you actually ran into him! Killing threads since 2004.

Very little of what has been posted thus far would generally be considered abnormal in bonfire! Maybe what you are looking for is someone who actually wants to chat about abnormal stuff...you know, kites, lollipops, tennis rackets, the ferris wheel...abnormal stuff. Killing threads since 2004.

Not so much of a bummer, I mean, just imagine sitting in a corporate boardroom somewhere trying to decide what to write in the blog when someone chimes in with "we could call the guy a nutsack." I've always wanted to say nutsack in a boardroom filled with people. Killing threads since 2004.
