  1. Yup, that's why I took over trying to help him instead of one of my parents! He got a pretty good deal out of the delay too. Spent two extra days skiing in Breckenridge w/ $39 lift tickets from a friend that works on the slopes. Killing threads since 2004.
  2. That's exactly what he's doing (kind of). He has to get back to Breckenridge where his car was left at a friend's place and will be driving to Atlanta. He had already driven from Portland to Breckenridge, so the return from Atlanta to Portland will be a long one, but it's better than sitting in the airport for the next 4 or 5 days waiting for a flight. They could have confirmed him on 12/26, but if he confirmed on that flight he wouldn't be eligible for stand-by again until that day, and he would lose the option of a full refund. Hopefully his little old Saturn with 216,000 miles on it will make it! Killing threads since 2004.
  3. I just had the best experience with airline customer service that I have ever had. It took me about 45 minutes of repeat dialing to get through but once I got someone on the line she spent more than an hour and a half on the phone with me while I talked back and forth with my brother who was on another phone stuck in the Denver airport. We went through about 20 different options for getting him to Atlanta and she was probably the most patient customer service rep I've ever dealt with for any reason. In the end we decided to cancel his flights. He couldn't get on a flight for 4 days and he can drive it in two so he's just going to drive home and they gave him a full refund. He had already driven from Portland to Denver where he was skiing for the last few days, so the drive back all the way to Portland will be a long one, but it will be good to have him visiting in time to see everyone on Christmas! 4. Nah - not trying to rub it in. Weather is actually piss today in Atlanta. Just looking for any plane making a trip from Denver to Atlanta to get my brother on! Killing threads since 2004.
  5. Once you get dug out, what time should the flight to Atlanta depart? I'm sure some jumpers there would love to head down here for some warmer weather! hehe...sitting here dialing Frontier over and over trying to help my brother who is stuck at DIA get through to them to attempt to rebook. 6. And a good story to go along with it...even better! It would be saying a lot for me to admit something is better than peanut butter kisses. I have friends and family that would think I'd gone off my meds! Killing threads since 2004.
  7. I'm sure that just having the sentimental nature of the cell phone call had a lot to do with it. It is sad what we latch on to and why, but it's human nature and nobody can really deny it. Nobody is more or less important, but sadly some events do make better "stories". Killing threads since 2004.
  8. I've always had a desktop with an occasional 2nd hand (aka $50 from ebay) laptop. I'm really looking forward the portability. Plus, I'm not sure how large the iMac HDs are, but you can get up to 200G with the laptops. Killing threads since 2004.
  9. Seems like they would have likely given up the Mt. Hood search sooner too had they not found evidence of the guys potentially surviving (empty snow cave, cell phone call, etc.). That and the bad weather days that stopped them from doing anything probably drew it out longer than it might have been had it been straight days in a row searching. Of course the sad part of it is that regardless of the reason, the media (and therefore the public) jumped on board and you are pretty much guaranteed that the search will go longer. It creates additional interest in people being out there helping as well as creates additional resources to be used in the search that a SAR action couldn't be continued without. Sox n Tevas?

Anyone else wear Chacos and not have the stinky problem? I've never in my life been able to wear sandals because my feet/sandals smelled so bad, but I've been wearing the pair of Chacos that I have now since June and not one hint of the past trouble. No sox for me, but more often than not my feet are getting wet while wearing the sandals, so the sox just don't work out. I'm all for comfy though, screw what it looks like if it feels good! 11. I had a good friend in college that used to love bake. She found out that peanut butter kisses were my favorite and invited me over one year when she made them to package up and give to people as gifts. By the time I left she pretty much had to start from scratch making more because I had eaten so many of them! She never let me come over when she was baking again! Killing threads since 2004.
  12. Dang. I'm gonna' have to slap my mamma for never thinking of putting snickers on top! That sounds delicious! Killing threads since 2004.
  13. Damn people! I've been so broke for the last couple years that I've had no problem squashing my urge to get a Macbook. Finally making a decent wage again and had hoped to make a few other more important purchases/payments before getting a new computer but it only took me reading the first couple pages of this thread to have a new Macbook sitting in my Apple shopping cart. I think it might have to sit there for just a little while longer, but I don't think those other purchases/payments are going to happen before I get the new computer! ...naaahhhh...
  14. Oh nooo!!! I don't think I could eat all that without some milk to wash it down. Those peanut butter cookies sound good. Haven't gotten my hands on any of those yet this year. Just got into Atlanta yesterday and my mom had this huge tin on top of the fridge that looked like it would contain amazing chocolate chip cookies. I finally broke into it today and they suck. I'm so disapointed. Peanut butter cookies would be great - especially if they were peanut butter kiss cookies - those are my favorite!!! Killing threads since 2004.
  15. And then she'll sell the writes to ghost write books following the stories of Ron, Hermione, etc. Kind of Clancy'ish. You know, Created by Rawling with the actual author's name in small print at the bottom of the cover. Killing threads since 2004.
  16. Wowza! I just ate a few pieces of fudge and a couple cookies that my mom brought home from work today and I was worried about being up all night! I think if I input that much sugar I'd end up with the shakes! Hopefully you had some milk in the house to wash it all down with? Killing threads since 2004.
  17. What she said. I say these all the time as a sign of respect, but go out of my way for service industry folks. They put up with a lot of shit, so I especially make a point of saying please and thank-you, sir and ma'am to them. It's funny when they're only half my age. Same here. I use sir/mam all the time in service oriented communication. It is natural in that context, but I really don't use it outside of that though. edit: I don't have a problem with it being a "reflex action" either. I have seen it brighten the face or attitude of someone that is in a position that often results in being given flack by people they deal with, especially if I am polite to them and show them respect immediately following someone else being an asshat. Killing threads since 2004.
  18. They have looked at options, but at the moment the most attractive option for them is to just stay in Breckenridge with their friend and continue taking advantage of amazing powder for skiing while they wait for the flights. He and his girlfriend leave in different directions for the next 8 months or so, so they aren't complaining about a few extra days together. That said, it would be nice if he was able to make it to my parent's place to see us!!! Killing threads since 2004.

    Predictions?

Well I was happy about my travel plans not taking me anywhere near the mess, but turns out my brother isn't so lucky. He lives in Oregon but he and his girlfriend decided to take up a friends offer for some cheap skiing in Breckenridge and booked themselves to fly out of Denver after a few days on the slopes. He was supposed to fly out today, but it looks like it will be a few more days. Thankfully he's still hooked up with some super cheap skiing so they are enjoying themselves! Killing threads since 2004.
  20. I would start seeing if there are other options. My brother was skiing in Breckenridge and supposed to fly out of Denver today. Yesterday they told him that his chances of getting out prior to Christmas Eve were pretty slim. That seems a bit extreme to me, but that's what Frontier told him and United (I think) told his girlfriend. Killing threads since 2004.

Be safe, and maybe you'll end up getting a snow day out of it afterall! Killing threads since 2004.

  23. Come to think of it, I just about had another one of these moments yesterday. We were out doing a prescribed burn and upon taking a step forward I noticed the ground felt different so I looked down. I was stepping right on top of a freakin' rattlesnake and he was striking at my boot. Thankfully I was wearing 10" boots and was stepping a little too close to his head for him to strike much higher. I took a step back and just watched him, that's when I leaned foward and started poking him a little with the end of my unlit drip torch. I was simply trying to get him to move on his way so he wouldn't encounter the fire but it didn't occur to me at the moment that by bending over and reaching out my hand was now only about 12" from him. Thankfully this was more of a "what if" than a WTF was I thinking situation since nothing happened, but it didn't occur to me until a few minutes later how careless I was being! Killing threads since 2004.
  24. So long as others were not hurt I typically feel that people pretty much always deserve a second chance. No more though. If you screw it up after a second chance, you're toast. Edit to add: That said, having entered into an agreement as she did I believe they had every right to send her packin' without a second chance if that had been what they chose to do. Predictions?

That changes everything. Woo hoo...SNOW!!! I just moved to Texas and keep getting told about "the big snow" down here in Victoria a few years ago. Killing threads since 2004.
