  2. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks! Killing threads since 2004.
  3. I really only started watching college football over the last two years, and now I'm going through withdrawl having just moved into a new apartment with no tv yet. Friends can get antenna service, but there is no CBS which means no SEC! DOH! Killing threads since 2004.

Absolutely. Will you be there on a Sunday night? If so, check out Upright Citizens Brigade. They had a comedy central show long ago, but they still have a theater in NYC and on Sundays do improv sketch comedy. Sometimes it's just a few people, sometimes it's a big crowd w/ folks from SNL, writers from the late shows, etc. Check out www.uprightcitizens.org and give them a call (info for the Sunday night shows wasn't on the website last time I looked). In the past shows on Sunday were at 7pm and 9pm. 7pm was something like $6 and 9pm was free. Call and find out the details though. It's a small theater and if the weather is nice the lines can be really long. It's worth the wait in line if necessary. They have stuff going on every night of the week, so give them a call and see what's happening. If you are up for a drink, check out Shalel. It's on 70th Street between Columbus and CPW, but almost at the corner of Columbus. There is a very small sign and a staircase leading down to the bar in the basement. It's a neat place, and not one that people will typically walk past and visit, you kind of need to know it is there. It can get crowded, but during the week it's usually pretty calm and crowded or not it is a great atmosphere. Pretty pricy, but not much different than other bars in NYC. Whatever you do, make sure you get out and try the flavor of the city. It always made me sick seeing people wait in line for Olive Garden in Time's Square when they could have gone down to Little Italy. If you like Indian food be sure to check out 6th Street (I think that's the street - just ask someone about India Row). If you go to Little Italy, check out the place all decked out in flourescent pink and yellow. I forget the name, but they do huge family style meals. More food than you can imagine, all pretty good, and worth the money. It's an amazing atmoshpere, and if you go make sure to check out the sausage on the ceiling. Hope that helps! jason. 5. hehe...my mom came down to visit just before I left Florida. We were out at a restaurant and a husband yelled out to his wife, whose name was Georgia. Husband: "Georgia!" My mom (at the top of her lungs): "GO DAWGS! WHOO WHOO WHOO!" We got an awfully good laugh at that one. Killing threads since 2004.

If you want to try and get on Letterman without arranged tickets, go past the Ed Sullivan Theater in early afternoon, 2pm or so. They often have interns and staff out there pulling people in off the street. In my experience they take your name and tell you to come back at a certain time. They keep you waiting for a while, keep you waiting, keep you waiting, and when they finally let you in it's in the first few rows. That happened to me when friends came to visit 3 times. Just as many times we tried and there was nobody on the street taking names, but it's worth a try. Killing threads since 2004.
  7. Great, thanks! I plan on getting current up in Georgia while I'm there over the holidays and then start checking out dropzones down here. I love this state so far! I've been going through Mexican food withdrawl for the last couple years so I'm in hog heaven now! Killing threads since 2004.
  8. Well, I made it. Paid up on a one week rental and now I'm looking for an apartment to call home. It's actually quite nice apartment shopping down here. The last time I had to search for an apartment I was looking at smaller places for 6 times as much money in NYC. Texas is being good to me so far, and it better keep it up!!! Sweet! The only thing missing is the sombrero it wore for the "Broke Mexican Boogie." Killing threads since 2004.
  10. Game day weekends in my town are kind of like that when looking for kegs of Shiner. Everyone gets sold out of those things. I'll be happy to be able to find a 6-pack! Killing threads since 2004.
  11. Ha...we'll see. I was doing ok by the time I moved from NYC where I was the token white guy in a Dominican/Puerto Rican community. It's been two and a half years since then, and I forget quickly. Killing threads since 2004.
  12. I had an epihpany this evening. I realized what the best thing about moving to Texas is going to be. I will no longer have to go searching from store to store only to find out that nobody has Shiner Bock in stock. Mmmm... Killing threads since 2004.
  13. USAA rocks! I have everything through them (bank, insurance, loans, etc.). Other than in San Antonio they only bank online so everything is geared to that. Since they don't have ATMs they refund the money you are charged by other banks. Checking is free. The only drawback is if you get lots of checks because you have to mail them in. I've managed to only have to do that a couple times a year. They have amazing hours - including weekends - and fantastic customer service when you need to get in touch for some reason. 14. Thanks to both of you. I was afraid of the first answer, but I know that my mom's street pilot (though several years older) allows setting of waypoints so I'm hopeful for this one. PilotDave - thanks for the directions. I'll pass them on and hope it works on her model. Honestly she's not even going to remember when I tell her, but at least I will be able to tell those that she calls when she can't figure out how to use it. Best, jason. Killing threads since 2004.
  15. Does anyone have a Garmin Street Pilot c320 or something similar? I'm trying to help my grandmother in-law (I think that's what she is) figure out this gps unit she bought and for the life of me I can't figure out how to set a waypoint. I'm very familiar with gps use and use one every day for work. I've looked up the manual online and couldn't find anything there. I wrote to the garmin website but that will probably take a few days to get an answer. HELP! I can't believe that someone would have made a GPS unit that won't allow you to just hit a button to set your current location as a waypoint, but as far as I can tell at the moment that's exactly what Garmin did! jason. 16. Ah yes, very annoying if you are a bidder, but as a seller it is a dream come true! The first thing I ever sold on eBay was a 3 year old Palm Pilot that some moron bought for more than you could buy a brand new one for in the store. Stupid people can be of benefit at times. 17. I can't wait. That may change after being there for a while, but I've been so broke for the last couple years that going out for a BBQ sandwich every other month is a big treat. I'm sure it might get old, but for the first few months, bring it the F*** on! Killing threads since 2004.
  18. Now look here. If you're moving to Texas you might as well start getting some lessons in how to talk like one. You don't say "Thanks everyone." That's damn Yankee talk. What you should say instead is; "Thanks y'all." Now go practice that until it's automatic muscle memory. P.S. You've got guns, don't you? If not, go buy some and bring 'em with you. ------------------- Hehe...thanks for the advice. Pretty sure I'll fit in just fine. Growing up in Georgia I've got my southern speak down, just never has translated when typing. I'm sure I'll have a few things to learn if I'm going to represent ya'll appropriately. Is there some kind of transitionary period that I can get away with just having a few water guns? Killing threads since 2004.
  19. Thanks everyone. I just barely got started jumping up at The Farm a couple years ago and then went dormant because of work. I can't wait to get settled in Texas and get back into the swing of things. Thanks for all the great info! jason. edited: typos Killing threads since 2004.
  20. Thanks to both of you. That's a great list for me to start searching around with. I'm on a very slow dial up connection so it's tough to just randomly search around. Killing threads since 2004.
  21. Hey Texas folks… Looks like I’m moving out your way. I just accepted a position with a Nature Conservancy fire crew and will be moving to Victoria, TX in the next couple weeks. Anybody on here from the Victoria area, or have any leads on places to live down there? I’ll just be showing up in town with a tent and hoping to find an apartment pretty quickly. I’ve been told it’s not that tough, but we’ll see! How about the closest dropzone? I can’t seem to get the dz locator to work, keep getting an error message. Would love to know where people that live down there head to jump. Any info is appreciated! jason. Killing threads since 2004.
  22. I hear ya. I live in a camper on a state park in Florida, and during the winter months there are 30 to 50 cranes that call the area around my camper home. Not a thing I could do about it even if I wanted to. Good thing I'm a heavy sleeper! Killing threads since 2004.
  23. [replyWell, the reason I went to college was that I knew that it opened doors that would otherwise be a lot more difficult, if not impossible, to get through. So, I guess it could be said that I've gotten what I went to school for, several times over. This is pretty much my story. I knew halfway through school that music wasn't for me, but having been at a conservatory I would have to start completely over academically if I transfered out to an academic program. I stuck with it and took other classes related to management that I could, but decided that the diploma was all I was really looking for. It has opened the doors into two different careers so far, though oddly enough now that I'm moving into what I think I really want to do for a while the degree didn't really play any role. Go figure. 24. Does this work as well as/better than dry ice and water? Working at the grocery store back in high school we used to keep all the dry ice that came with frozen shipments, and then collect all the 3 liter bottles that were somehow damaged and not being sold and go out back and spend hours blowing them up. That ended the first time we decided to do it in winter and thought we had time to screw the cap on inside and throw the bottle out the back door. Blew up inside the stock room and resulted in a vist from the cops and fire department. Felt pretty bad about wasting their time. Killing threads since 2004.
  25. The thread about what instruments you play made me wonder...If you went to college, do you currently work in the field that you went to school for? For me, not even close. Degree in music performance from a music conservatory - went from college into the arts management field, just finished two years volunteering with AmeriCorps and moving into full time job as a wildland firefighter.
