  1. Cool thanks. That's what I suggested to my sister who is planning it, but I wasn't sure of what other options there might be. I planned three rafting trips while in high school up there and go figure, I got pulled over w/ significant ticket fines to pay about a week before each trip and had to back out every time. Looking forward to finally making it happen! Killing threads since 2004.
  2. Hey Atlanta folks, Suggestions for best experience whitewater rafting in the Atlanta vicinity (2-3 hours)? Kind of a last minute thing. A bunch of family will be converging on my folks place up there next weekend and we are looking at a rafting trip on Sunday. A few have done it previously, will be a first time for the rest. Would be more interested in a harder/guided trip than an easier/unguided trip. Any suggestions appreciated! j. Killing threads since 2004.
  3. That's great. I lived in Astoria for a little while and had an amazing time during a world cup hanging out in some of the Greek bars/coffee shops/hair salons/travel agencies, pretty much any place you could plug in a tv. If they had a tv and a game was on, didn't matter what business they were, they were a sports bar for the length of the game. Hopefully it is the same way now - it was one of the best times I had during my year in Astoria. It was pretty crazy when I lived up in Washington Heights too, but not quite the same. 4. I never noticed it until I met someone last summer that fit the description perfectly. Nothing happened there, but it made me realize that most of the women I have ever been attracted to have fit the same bill. Killing threads since 2004.
  5. Same here. I had friends getting on my case for almost a year to join. Finally I did back in January and have reconnected with half a dozen people I had totally lost touch with. Killing threads since 2004.
  6. I haven't really been on dz.com much in the last year and a half or so, but cool to see so many people w/ a page on myspace too. You can find me on myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/_flyingj Killing threads since 2004.
  7. Have to agree with J here - no cocunut for me. I do however LOVE peanut butter (crunchy to be specific) on a hot dog. For some reason most people think that is gross, however I have only run into a very few people that actually tried it and didn't like it. If you haven't, give it a try! Killing threads since 2004.
  8. I can't believe I never thought of that! Though living in my travel trailer it's only 3 steps to where the other small divided containers would be stored. I'm afraid I would just end up having a bunch of small containers to wash at the same time instead of one can to throw away! When I pull the cashews out the lid comes off and usually goes straight into the trash because there is never any reason to hold on to it! Killing threads since 2004.
  9. Hurricanes can be just a picky as tornadoes in deciding which house gets spared and which house gets screwed. Last year I spent about 3.5 months on the road doing hurricane relief w/ my AmeriCorps team, primarily cutting trees off houses and tarping roofs, and it was amazing to see how house A might have lost an entire roof while house B was practically unscathed. The most extreme case of that I saw was one beachfront house standing fine and people living back in it two days after the storm while next door the entire house crumbled down onto the beach, completely gone. Not to belittle the damage done, but man what an amazing force weather can be. I never cease to be in awe. It was almost surreal last week being back running a Red Cross Shelter for people forced to evacuate for TS Alberto. It seems like last hurricane season just barely ended but here we are. While I would never hope for damage, etc., the opportunity to do additional work with my AmeriCorps team on hurricane relief is the whole reason I opted to volunteer for a second year. I don't think I've ever felt anything as wonderful as the thanks offered from people that you've been able to help make it through such tough times. Killing threads since 2004.
  10. Nope, down south of Gainesville now, still volunteering with AmeriCorps. Still no more jumping until I'm done w/ AmeriCorps and start making some money again. A lot harder this year because I pass Williston and Palatka all the time and am always reminded of how much I miss it. Have been doing some ride alongs in Life Flight helicopters and can never think of anything but jumping out! Don't know anything about the WC this year. Just watched a couple matches this morning. Would love to see someone come from nowhere to win some games kind of like Camaroon did back in 90 or 91. That was actually the last time I watched... T&T did alright against Sweeden today, especially a man down for 1/2 the game. Killing threads since 2004.
  11. Hey Skinny...long time no talk. If their opponents keep scoring on themselves we should see your boys in the final in no time! Killing threads since 2004.
  12. Do you know anyone that has access to Lexis Nexis - maybe someone in a law office or in law school? Very powerful search capabilities, especially when it comes to public records. I sent you a PM with a bit more detail about it. flyingj Killing threads since 2004.
  13. Salvation Army is a great option too. I'm an AmeriCorps volunteer and just recently returned from a month of hurricane Dennis relief work out near Pensacola. We lived on a gym floor but they provided us with cots, a huge shower trailer and a cook truck for the whole time we were there. That might not seem like much, but after 12 hours of sawing trees off people's houses and tarping roofs in 100 degree heat a hot meal, shower and cot meant the world to every one of us. I don't have any relation to the Salvation Army other than being impressed and thankful for the support they provided both to the people that needed the help and the people doing the helping. That said, we also work closely with Red Cross disaster relief and you really can't go wrong donating to either. Killing threads since 2004.
  14. hehe...sounds great, now all i need is a sugarmama (or hell, even a sugardaddy would do) to pay for me to start jumping again! send me a pm with your phone number. i lost it when i changed cell phones. i want to talk to you about what we emailed about last week as well. 15. Hey Tallahassee folks... As of the beginning of January or so (maybe just a bit earlier) me and a few friends need to find an apartment in Tallahassee. We're looking at 3 and 4 bedrooms. Location is not all that important as we'll all be volunteering with an AmeriCorps team that travels 3 weeks a month. Price is the main factor as we are all living on a VERY modest living stipend. So, if you think you have any suggestions please by all means hit me up with a message. I'm evacuated for the storm now and chances are pretty good my crew will be sent over to Mississippi in the next day or two so I probably won't respond very quickly but if you have any suggestions please post them here and I'll look up the thread when I return. Also, about the same time as I'm moving to Tallahassee I'll probably be looking to sell my 30ft travel trailer, so keep that in mind if you might be interested! I miss the hell out of jumping and hanging out. With deciding to join AmeriCorps for a second year it will probably be another year before I can afford to get back in a plane, but I'm already looking forward to it! jason. Skydive The Farm

Can't even begin to tell you how much I miss The Farm! I moved a little over 6 hours away back in December and the new job doesn't afford me the money to jump nor the money to pay for gas to get up there very often, but I have made a couple trips up to The Farm just to hang out. I shouldn't have been surprised, but I had just as much fun just spending the weekend with friends as I did when I was actually able to jump. Every time I go back it feels like I've never been gone, and it's always good to meet some of the pile of new people that have showed up since I've been gone. Can't wait until I can make it back up to The Farm again!
  17. Think about where you'll be parking this thing and what kind of hook ups you'll have before you go and spend the money for a rig with a washer and dryer. If you don't have sewer hookups and have to dump into a honey wagon you'll have to dump your grey water so often that you'd probably be happier going to a laundrymat. I live full time in my travel trailer in a state park with a central dump station rather than full hookups. Even though I shower in the campground instead of in my rig I have to dump my grey water tank every week to week and a half. If I had to dump my grey tank every time I did laundry there's not a chance in hell I'd ever actually do laundry in the rig. Just a thought. I've learned a lot of stuff over the last few months since I moved into the trailer. Killing threads since 2004.
  18. Hmmm...just wondering how many of you dz.commers I met and hung out with not knowing who you were on here. So far I've seen about a dozen names of people that I had no idea were there! Finances kept me from being able to jump but I had a hell of a time just hanging out on the ground meeting new people. Spence...you rock. Mouth...better keep tabs on where that finger is pointing! I wish more people had been around to see that woman go all nutcase on you while we were moving the dunk tank. Thanks everyone for such a fantastic weekend. I've missed jumping for the last few months and missed it a hell of a lot this weekend, but I realized what I miss most is hanging out with all of you at the dz. Now I've got a good dose of that to last me for the next few months until I can get to a dz again. Adios! jason Killing threads since 2004.
  19. Wow - 19 pages of posts in this thread since the last time I was able to check the site. Can't say I'm going to get through all of those posts while paying $2.99 per 30 minutes for internet access. Still counting on making it up to Dublin to get my ass in the air again. Broke as hell but a nice little chunk of my tax refund is already set aside to be spent at Dublin. About half of my AmeriCorps team is planning on coming with me to do tandems. Missing the hell out of you Farm and Roaming DZ folks, so I'm counting the minutes! jason. Killing threads since 2004.
  20. hehe...it's great to be worried about a flight because you are actually going to have to land in it instead of being able to jump out! Killing threads since 2004.
  21. Hi Jon, Sorry to hear about the turbulence! Haven't seen you at the Farm since the last boogie when your daughter was jumping around in the mud in front of the hanger! Hope everything works out ok for you. jason. Killing threads since 2004.
  22. I've been looking all over for the post about the midget that was living in a toy box in the kids room, and when the family left for the day just hung out around the house. Have you checked your toy boxes? Killing threads since 2004.
  23. I'm looking forward to starting to drop pounds and get back in shape in the near future. Went from a very active lifestyle in NYC, walking everywhere (upwards of 3 to 5 miles a day) plus biking 50 to 100 miles per week plus kayaking 4 or 5 days a week, etc. to moving back in with my parents (and copious amounts of food) for 6 months as well as back into a car culture where nobody walks anywhere. I've gained almost 40 pounds in 6 months. I start my new job on Monday and will be hiking upwards of 10 to 12 miles daily, not to mention going back on the "totally broke, unable to even afford junk food" meal plan. In a way knowing the weight will drops is bad because I've been updating gear and need to buy some new clothes, etc. but don't want to buy a bunch of new stuff knowing the pounds will start coming off as quickly as they went on and it will all be too big. 24. Get it! My dentists have always screamed at me that I needed to floss, etc., and I have always gotten a good 15 minutes or so of the dreaded scraper during each visit. On my last visit, after having been using my Sonicare for the last year, the dentist only felt the need to scrape in two little places and commented that she could tell I was taking much better care of my teeth and gums. Nothing changed except that I was using the new toothbrush. Killing threads since 2004.
  25. Very cool. One of my best friends is one of the chief designers of the RAT, the Rock Abrasion Tool that is the Mars Rover's primary tool for sampling. Three members of his team lived out in LA for the last 6 months or so working on manning the drilling functions of the rover. I had never thought about how cool it could really be until he called and left me a message one night shortly after the rover landed and started working. He said something along the lines of "do you realize that about eight hours ago I hit a button to send a command to Mars, and about 5 minutes ago I just got photos of something I built doing what I just told it to do, on Mars." Even I was kind of giddy when I heard the message. Killing threads since 2004.
