I'm kind of a pack rat, but I was also completely over the trombone by the time I graduated so I think she knew it would probably be one of the first things to go. I think she's more interested in having a full complement of instruments for grand kids (thankfully she hasn't gotten on to the kick about wanting those yet) to play with. She actually has a few of my old trombones, a trumpet, sax, a couple drum sets and I'm sure a few other random instruments that my siblings and I picked up over time. I can't wait for the day she has a home full of grand kids and we pull out all of those instruments and she realizes the error of her ways! Killing threads since 2004.

I seem to be having this same problem. Cleared cookies, etc., but get the same message. Have tried on 3 different machines. Killing threads since 2004.

Hmmm...got a degree in trombone performance, but never touched it again after my graduation recital. Mom stole it from me so I wouldn't sell it to pay rent when I moved to NYC after college, so I'm sure I'll pull it out of their attic at some point and play around a bit again. That's smart Quade, but I am so afraid of it backfiring... Consider calling whatever local agency deals with wildlife protection and management, like the state fish and game commission, etc. As you mentioned, you would probably want to try and get a pic to show them first, but in my experience local land/wildlife management agencies typically take a much more grounded approach to “managing” situations like this as opposed to the “save them all, who cares about the humans” approach you could potentially run into with more protection based organizations. It might be completely out of their scope of practice, but they could probably point you in the right direction. Killing threads since 2004.

I was off on a weekday a little while back and saw him on Martha Stewart's tv show. It was awfully funny. He was scared to death of her - his hands were actually shaking while he was following her recipe he was so nervous. Killing threads since 2004.

Me too! I rarely ever eat at McDonalds, but I'll be damned if the hash browns (with two Monopoly pieces attached) don't just call my name in the morning while the game is on. Anybody know which of the Railroad pieces is the rare one this year? Killing threads since 2004.

Try Red Roof Inn. There is one on the east side somewhere in the 30s, pretty easy commute from where you need to be. I had several friends/family stay there when they came to visit and it was always a pretty good deal. I got a room there once for $89 for a night when my apartment was being bug bombed, but that was a straight walk-up on the night I wanted to stay. Killing threads since 2004.

That was fantastic! Hey Goofy- Their request at the end of the show was for video of practical jokes. Does your hubby still have video of when Lance passed out on his air mattress and we floated him out onto the swoop pond at the Farm? Killing threads since 2004.

Hehe...Last year my AmeriCorps team went to help out on a non-profit farm that was used as therapy for handicapped children. Over lunch the young girl whose family ran and lived on the farm (about 6yrs old, cutuest little girl you can imagine) was telling me all about the different animals they have on the farm. She was telling me all their names, horses, cows, ducks, etc. She said her favorite was the cow Pepper, but Pepper wasn't around any longer. I asked what happened to Pepper, and with just a brief pause and a moment of reflection she responded "You're eating her. She tastes pretty good, doesn't she?" Killing threads since 2004.

I worked most of the day, but thankfully the work was bringing a large volunteer group out into a state park to participate in National Public Lands Day. Pretty great day to be out "working." Now just taking advantage of an office computer for internet. I spend most of my time working/camping out in the middle of nowhere, so I'm actually excited to be inside for a few hours! This is kind of long, but it was great... My uncle was with family at a state fair, and while there swore that he heard a page that he had a message for him at Gate 3. He asked around and there was no "Gate 3" on the fairgrounds. He asked our family and nobody heard a page for him. He didn't tell anyone other than his wife about the "Gate 3" part of the message, and she only mentioned that part in passing to my mom later. Later that afternoon they found out that a very ill relative had passed away that day, and at that someone had been trying to get in touch with my uncle around that time, although nobody had called the state fair. That really freaked out my uncle - now he thinks he's receiving messages "from beyond." So, everyone made fun of him again and then let it go. My mom and my uncle have been playing pranks on each other since they were kid, so for her this was a golden opportunity, and she took full advantage. The family is full of pranksters, so she had plenty of help. Arrangements were made for the funeral service a couple days later. My mom made a very realistic looking "GATE 3" sign that was "installed" above the large iron gates that you pass through going into the cemetary (the funeral director and priest are both close family friends and in on the prank). My uncle almost wet himself when he was told to enter through Gate 3 (at this point he still didn't think anyone knew about the Gate 3 part of the message). The priest doing the service even got in on it, and mentioned something like "now that Edith has made her journey through Gate 3"...something like that. Once again, my uncle freaked and nearly crushed my aunt's hand that he was holding. Apparently it was all that everyone at the service could do to keep from completely busting out laughing at him. As soon as it was over he freaked out and was telling everyone about all of the Gate 3 coincidences. They let him leave first having been assigned a couple errands to run on the way home and on the way out my mom grabbed her Gate 3 sign. Everyone was back at my grandparent's place for a reception and after about an hour my uncle noticed the Gate 3 sign propped up on the mantle in the living room and immediately freaked out because it had been stolen from the cemetary, and how he couldn't believe my mom would go so far as to steel a sign from a cemetary to play a joke on him. Eventually he touched it and realized it was made of cardboard, and when everyone let out days of pent up laughter he knew he had been had and everyone was in on it. To this day he is still trying to figure out what he can do to get back at my mom. Killing threads since 2004.

I think Hans should possibly be the happiest person that there won’t be any “little Lee” running around. Can’t you just imagine it a dozen or so years from now, Ella running up to her daddy telling him to tell Little Lee Jr. that “it’d be rude not to” is no reason for her to kiss him out behind the hanger! Anyone living near Covington or Abita Springs, Louisiana have a feeling for what it’s like finding an apartment in the area? I’m considering a job offer based around there. Ideally I would be looking for something alone and pretty small (studio or small one bedroom) but I would also be interested in moving in with someone that has a room to rent. That is where the position is based, but I’ll also be looking at areas within a reasonable commute. I’ve been living in a camper for two years so I’m not too hard to please in regard to size or amenities. I know that housing is in short supply in that area so being able to find a place to live would weigh heavily on the decision whether or not to take the job. jason. Killing threads since 2004.

I was at work in Manhattan. Co-worker's mom called to say something had happened so we turned on a TV. A bunch of friends in a dance company were all supposed to be there by 9am for a dress rehearsal on the WTC plaza for a performance that evening and I spent the next two hours trying to get in contact with them. Thankfully they were as unreliable as ever and at 9am were only halfway there. Spent another hour walking around the neighborhood trying to find my roommate's girlfriend who was also walking around the neighborhood looking for me and then we started the 140 block walk home. One of the most amazing experiences of my life. People helping people all over the place. People getting off busses so that older people who were walking could get on. By the time I got uptown where I lived there were people covered in dust and all cut up getting off busses and out of cars. A sureal experience to say the least. We spent 9 hours in line the next day to give blood. The most eerie thing was the lack of airplane traffic as I lived in the flight path to LaGuardia. Seeing the fighter jets above was pretty sureal too. Killing threads since 2004.

Hey folks – I’ve been meaning to send this link for sometime. It’s a way that you can register yourself in the national next of kin database. The database is used by most state governments, FEMA, Red Cross, etc. when trying to identify next of kin, typically in a disaster setting. It certainly can’t hurt to have your info there, and it also allows you to print out a card with your info that will direct someone to the database for your information. I know it’s a little gruesome to think about needing, but after seeing how many people lose track of relatives after hurricanes I figure it is far better safe than sorry. You can register more than one person as a contact for you, and it is suggested that you always register at least one person that is not an immediate spouse or family member since it is likely that you would be with those people if something happened. Obviously it is a good idea to let the people you have registered as your next of kin know that they are listed, and also be sure to provide them with contact information for others that would need to be contacted (spouse’s next of kin, workplace, etc.). http://nokr.org/nok/restricted/home.htm jason. I'm a few months away from completing my 2nd year with AmeriCorps. I was able to find a position that is based working for a state park service so my daily workload is all about working outside doing natural resources management and volunteer recruitment, but I've also spent months of that time providing disaster relief. In that time we've worked as saw crews cutting trees off people's homes, roof tarping, distributing MREs and water, helping people gut out their homes or pack up salvagable belongings if their home was condemned, etc. I also spent a few months assigned to Red Cross after Katrina. There are piles of different opportunities out there and many places are willing to work with you to make sure that you get as much out of participating as you put into the work you do. I wanted to do Peace Corps, but a few different things got in the way and I'm happy the way things worked out. If you are thinking about it though, take some time to really consider doing it. I was well placed in my chosen career field for 5 years after college, doing everything I had dreamed of doing for a career, but it always itched at me that I hadn't taken the time after college to do something like this. Weather you have a life changing experience or feel like maybe it wasn't for you and wish you might have chosen to do something else, by going ahead and doing it at least you won't always wonder what it would have been like. jason. Getting ready to head out west on wildfire detail for the first time. I’ve seen a couple people mention spending time on fires out west and had a couple questions. In regard to the type of stuff that you brought/didn’t bring with you… What did you bring that was a waste of space/weight that you should have left at home? What did you wish that you had brought that you didn’t, or that you didn’t bring enough of? Any other tidbits of advice for a newbie to the left coast? I do have prescribed fire and wildfire experience, just finally able to take the time to see how it’s done on the other side of the country. I’m totally hyped about finally heading out there, but I am a little worried about how my “mountain” legs are going to hold up after living in Florida for the last two years. Down here the worst slope you have to deal with is a drainage ditch and when your day is over you drive home to go to bed! Killing threads since 2004.

I thought about that too a while back after being in a situation where I had nobody to contact for someone I was in a position to help. I added an "Emergency Contact" entry to my cell phone contacts in hopes of someone looking in there if I was in a place that people didn't know me. When I used to have business cards I also used to write my emergency info on the back and laminate it and kept one in my wallet, one in the pocket of my scuba bc, one in the pocket of my pfd while kayaking, etc. Kind of obsessive, but it messed me up a little when I couldn't help the person contact anyone. Speaking of...I think I still have those cards w/ my old info on them. I can just imagine my old NYC roommate's reaction to getting a call... Killing threads since 2004.
