mother...daughter... Did ya'll know that Cartman was a real person? The big dude that was friends with the "bush baby" kid had me rolling! Killing threads since 2004.

Could probably do without smell. Allergies and sinuses are so bad I can usually only smell half the time anyway! Killing threads since 2004.

small digital camera - old but still going strong?
FlyingJ replied to FlyingJ's topic in The Bonfire
FOUND ONE! Thanks for the suggestions in this thread as well as the ones I received by PM and email. I just won a an auction on eBay for a Pentax Optio S4 that also comes with a couple extra batteries and all the accessories, right down to the altoids tin that the guy stores it in. Only about $60. Unfortunately shipping from Canada kicks the price up a bit higher, but well worth it! In response to the last question...I know that it will be when the camera bites it, not if, so that's my main reason for looking for something cheaper that I wouldn't mind replacing in a year rather than trying to protect my larger and nicer camera. Unfortunately most of my fire pics are on an external hard drive that is still in storage, but attached are a couple pics I snapped last week. Nothing special, but I was happy about how they came out because they were taken with a disposable point and shoot. The sunset pic doesn't even come close to doing justice to how brilliant it was. Unfortunately this pic didn't pick up the deep orange of the sun. In real life it looked almost photo shopped, with all of the color removed except for the sun. Killing threads since 2004. -
My thoughts exactly. I've never had any "ah haa, that's what you get" moments, but I have run into people still living the exact same life they did in high school that made me feel great about the decisions I've made to bounce around the country and really experience life. I think everyone should live the life that makes them happy, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a tinge of morbid satisfaction out of seeing a bit of jealousy on the face of some asshat from high school who made the choice to keep living the status quo instead of getting out and living a little. Well, I've only been a resident of this fine state for a couple months now, but I have come to truly appreciate Prosek's Smokehouse sausage and the ability to purchase Shiner Bock at any time in pretty much any quantity! I am happy to have both sitting in my fridge to enjoy as soon as it warms up and my southern weather whipped ass is willing to go outside and grill. Killing threads since 2004.

Boy was I a sorry sight this morning trying to find a way to get the ice off the windows of my car. I DID NOT include owning an ice scraper in my plans when I moved to South Texas. I even laugh at myself for calling what was on my vehicle this morning ice, but still, it's south Texas! That said, it sure was nice just squirting some hot water on the windows and being done with it. Sure beats having to spend an hour and a half digging a vehicle out like I had to when I lived in Ohio and New York! Killing threads since 2004.

Come on, they have to streeeeeeetch it out - I mean, how else will they come up with another 45 episodes for a single season! Killing threads since 2004.

Until about a month ago I had not had personal internet access for about two years. Lieterally two days ago I was cleaning up old files and I came across Folding at Home. "WTF is folding at home. Where the heck did this thing come from!?!?!" I had no idea what it was and deleted it. Now it all comes back to me! I'll have to get it downloaded and get myself up and running again. edit: 'cause I'm a moron. Killing threads since 2004.

I never actually saw her talk. What is this, 5th or 6th year of Idol? Seems like it is about time for them to try and do something stupid to make the show a bit different which will in turn just annoy everyone! Bring back Dunkleman! Killing threads since 2004.

Pffft....I've been hooked in the past but now it's on at the same time as a different show I really like. I only caught a few bits and pieces during breaks in the other show. What's the deal with Jewel being there? Was that just on the audition tour or is she going to be a full time judge? Killing threads since 2004.

It's been a couple years since I did much buying/selling on eBay, and holy crap is it frustrating now! I yearn for the days when you could type in a model number for the widget that you were looking for and come up with a page or two of "Joe Schmoes" selling used widgets. Now there are still the page or two of used widgets being sold, but you have to sort through 350 pages of brand new widgets being sold for the same price you could buy them at the store, cases for widgets, cables for widgets, batteries for widgets (did you know widgets even take batteries?). BLECH! Rant over. Killing threads since 2004.

small digital camera - old but still going strong?
FlyingJ replied to FlyingJ's topic in The Bonfire
Precisely the reason I'm looking for something small and somewhat disposable! I never carry my good camera when I'm on a fire because it ends up covered in soot and I've seen more than a few cameras not fare so well after getting a little too up close and personal with the heat. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check those out. At the moment I'm still hoping to find something in the $50 range, you know, something some guys kid drew all over with a permanent marker or something. I'm not a big fan of the tiny cameras, so I've never shopped for them in the past and just don't know what models were worth a snot when they came out a handful of years ago. The altoid tin case is great. That's exactly what my friend did with his pentax, and precisely what I hope to be able to do with whatever it is I find. Thanks guys! jason. small digital camera - old but still going strong?
FlyingJ replied to FlyingJ's topic in The Bonfire
I'm in the market for a used digital camera, specifically something pretty small that will easily fit in a pocket. I'm looking primarily on eBay at cameras 4 or 5 years old or so, in the 3-5mp range. I have a great digital, but it's large and cost a bundle. I work on a wildland fire crew and I'm looking for something small enough to stash in a pocket and cheap enough (hence, 4 or 5 years old) that I won't be too upset if it gets toasted, literally. A friend has a Pentax Optio that is about the size of an altoids tin, which is the perfect size. Because I'm looking for something 4 or 5 years old though I'm hoping some of you might have some suggestions for a model that you own that fits the description and is still up and running strong. I get the opportunity to see some pretty fantastic scenes now and then and I want to be able to take advantage of them! Thanks, jason. Killing threads since 2004. -

For those who live within range, is ANYTHING better than Fresh Direct?
FlyingJ replied to ntrprnr's topic in The Bonfire
I remember waiting anxiously as they slowly moved further and further uptown (I lived in Washington Heights). SO excited when I could finally get a delivery up there. Only problem was that I'm not very good at knowing what I need in advance. I'm more of a grab in on the way home kind of person. Of course, shortly after they started serving my area Whole Foods at Columbus Circle opened. I actually hate that store, but because we had a couple new concert halls going into the building they gave us some "hey new neighbor" gift cards that I made use of for some time. Going to an outside source like a better business org or attorney general office works because not only does the original company realize that you are indeed serious and passing the investigation along, but it could potentially hurt their business as a whole by having them on record as being investigated. I think I mentioned, in my case no investigation ever happened. The company receiving a letter asking them for their side of my story was all that was needed for them to understand that I wasn't dicking around. Killing threads since 2004.

Yup, it's pretty funny seeing people scramble around getting ready for the ice, and here in Victoria (TX) we aren't really even supposed to get it, but we get Houston and San Antonio/Austin network channels so all the news is about the weather there! hehe...this reminds me of moving from New Hampshire to Georiga when I was a kid. Our first winter in GA my mom told us shortly after we went to bed that school had been canceled for a snow day. We were so excited the next morning that we showed up downstairs wearing our snowsuits and had already pulled out sleds out. My mom just let us get all ready with this smirk on her face until we walked outside and saw that their wasn't an ounce of snow on the ground. It was snowing, but nothing on the ground at all. This is what a Georiga snow day is? At first we were devestated that there wasn't any snow to play in, but we soon grew to appreciate how many days off of school we got compared to living in Chicago and New Hapmshire! That's great. Someone else had mentioned the OSU players with Gatorade towels on their heads but this was the first time I saw it. Too funny! Being that the Dawgs didn't quite pull their own weight in the SEC this year I'm happy to see that at least one team totally kicked ass. I've been lovin' the Gators for the past month or so, but now that it's over and they got the job done, gotta go back to hatin 'em and hope that Georgia pulls their heads out of their asses for next year! Yup, we did. Glad you mentioned to I can make sure to specify the unrated version when I tell others to get it! Killing threads since 2004.

hehe...yeah right. do you know how much school that takes? i have suffered from this in the past and have had to treat half a dozen or so others for it. so few people recognize that it even exists that i always jump at the opportunity to hop up on my little soap box and hope that at least one or two people will remember that it exists the next time they think they are dehydrated! It's called hyponatremia. Symptoms are pretty similar to heat exhaustion/stroke but the difference is what you are missing. You can be guzzling the water, but if you aren't keeping up your levels of salt, potassium, etc. you are in for a world of hurt. If you are treated appropriately for hyponatremia it is easily reversible, but the main problem is people suffering from this are usually treated as if they are dehydrated and given more water, which only makes them worse. Death certainly isn't commonplace, but is certainly more likely if the problem isn't recognized and treated accordingly. Talked about it in another thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2322821;search_string=hyponatremia;#2322821 Killing threads since 2004.

I just rented #2 tonight and I can't remember the last time I lauged so hard. Even after watching the bonus scenes, the deleted scenes, the "making of" footage...I was still wishing there was more. If you didn't drop the dime to go see it in the theater, definitely check it out on DVD, and even if you did, the bonus features just add to the experience. Killing threads since 2004.
