  1. I was in disbelief at the number of people just sitting in their cars lined up in the parking lot lanes waiting for good spots to open. I started paying attention, and most of the time it was the folks that it wouldn't hurt a bit to get a little workout. Killing threads since 2004.

    Real Genius

All the talk about this movie made me realize that I really did need to own it. It took me 4 stores to find it, and a 5th store to find it at a price I was willing to pay. Best Buy sells it, but they wanted $22! Their new releases cost $19.99. Obviously they realize it's a great movie. I dred going to the mall at all costs (See my parking lot rant), but this time it was worth it as I found it in a music/movie store there for about $12. Yee haw...about to go pop it in and enjoy some cheesy mid-80s cinematic bliss. Killing threads since 2004.
  3. Did I miss the memo that says otherwise reasonably good drivers are required to become complete morons as soon as they enter a parking lot? I just spent about 2 hours running errands, about 15 minutes of which was spent driving in and out of parking lots. In that time I was in near collisions with 4 people. 4 freakin people! In two of them the idiots never even realized what a nutsack they were being. I feel like parking lots have lines and directional arrows for a reason, and I make use of them as such. Now I'm the first to admit that I have a stick up my butt when it comes to parking lots. I'm going to follow the lines/arrows/etc. regardless of whether the parking lot is full or empty, even if I'm the only one there, but I understand if someone chooses to cut across an empty parking lot, or maybe drive across an aisle on a day when people aren't driving up and down in every direction. Not on a freakin' rainy saturday afternoon though! Each of the near misses this afternoon were people driving 3 times as fast as they should have been, all of a sudden popping out from in between cars while cutting through the middle of the aisles. One of them I saw coming and stopped for, and watched her continue cutting across and almost hit two more cars. The mall is the worst. I dred going to the mall in general, and especially on a busy saturday afternoon with a bunch of crazies driving around, but at least this trip was made with some vindication as I found a copy of Real Genius on DVD. Anyway - if you are going to be a moron, flying through a parking lot driving all which way and ignoring all of the signs/markings, please at least be aware of your surroundings! Today I was wishing I had one of those train horns so I could have blasted a little awareness into these folks! Killing threads since 2004.
  4. While I understand why folks visiting NYC want to visit the site, and think they should if they want to, it makes me sick to see the touristy stuff that has popped up around it. I lived there until 2004 and only ever went to the site once when friends visiting wanted to go. It made me sick to see all of the vendors selling stuff like flip books with pictures of the planes hitting the buildings and t-shirts saying "I visited Ground Zero." Friends visiting always wanted to go. First I would take them over to Battery Park to see the remains of the sculpture that once stood in the WTC plaza, and then if they felt they wanted to see more I was happy to tell them how to get over to the site, but I never went back. I suggest making sure you go through Battery Park to see the sculpture and I believe there is now an eternal flame as part of the memorial. It's a nice place to visit regardless, but in my experience the best way to pay homage to those lost without being confronted with the commercialization that has taken over at the site, especially if your husband would prefer to not visit the site. 5. Just don't fool yourself into thinking you can be less bad and buy a pack of the small eggs to eat over time instead of a couple big eggs to eat at once. Been there, done that, didn't work. You have more wrappers to unwrap and in the end you probably eat more! Killing threads since 2004.
  6. No kidding. I heard yesterday that here in Victoria it's supposed to be constant rain with a high of 48 today. WTF!?!?!?! Killing threads since 2004.
  7. Which airline is running a promotion like that? I don't fly much, but I'm pretty close to having tickets on several different airlines. Could use any help I could get, especially since I was about to subscribe to a few magazines anyway! Killing threads since 2004.

    Real Genius

I agree 100%. I don't think I've ever seen it on TV without stopping to watch it. Killing threads since 2004.

    Real Genius

In the last few months I've found myself trying to describe this movie to at least half a dozen people. I don't know why it always comes up, but seems like there are constantly things happening that remind me of this movie. That's one I need to keep my eyes open for on DVD. Killing threads since 2004.
  10. Well, at least there is a Cinnabon there. You can drownd your travel woes in beer AND fresh hot cinnamon buns! I used to live by the airport and would occasionally make the trip over there as it was the closest place to get a sweets fix, and if you were in and out in less than an hour it didn't cost to park! 11. At night, in a tandem kayak floating behind the Statue of Liberty. This was the summer prior to Sept. 11th when you could still paddle right up to the statue without Coast Guard deck mounted machine guns being pointed at you. edit: typo Killing threads since 2004.
  12. That's too funny. I just took a picture of that on my way through Ft. Stockton a couple weeks ago. Killing threads since 2004.

Seeing your sig line is what made me think about it and bring up this old post! Killing threads since 2004.

    Skype??

I tried some web cam chatting too. It was great when one or other had a cam on, but when we both had it on it (or my computer anyway) slowed down pretty dramatically. My computer is getting a bit old though, so I imagine if you are running a fast machine it will work really well. I downloaded it mainly because I spend a lot of time working out in the mountains in West Texas where they have a satellite internet hook up but no phone access. I put it on my work laptop so I can get a line out if I need to. Haven't tried it yet, but I hope it works alright over the satellite connection out there! Killing threads since 2004.
  17. hehehe...close, but not quite. "The Washington Post confirmed that W. Mark Felt, a former number-two official at the FBI, was "Deep Throat," the secretive source who provided information that helped unravel the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s and contributed to the resignation of president Richard M. Nixon." Killing threads since 2004.

    Skype??

Wow! I downloaded Skype almost a year ago but finally just tried it out for the first time last week. Of course the group of friends that was overseas that prompted me to get it moved back to the states about a month ago, but it's been checking it out. I don't think I'll have much reason to use it that often, but it has kept a conversation going twice so far when my cell battery was so dead that even plugged in it couldn't keep up. If you haven't tried Skype yet, get on it! Killing threads since 2004.
  19. Doesn't mean that you have to cancel, just that you need to cancel if you don't want them to start billing you for a membership to the service. I think it's rare to find an online promotion that isn't set up that way. Killing threads since 2004.

    Strep Throat...

Oy. I usually come down with the symptoms 2 to 3 times a year. It seems I tend to carry it without coming down with symptoms most of the time, but when I do come down with the symptoms it sucks pretty hard. I probably go in for at least half a dozen strep tests a year. They are often negative, but I always worry when others around me start getting it because of the tendency to carry it. I got a whole van load of friends sick once when we took a road trip and I didn't know I had it. It sucks! Nyquil (and lots of it) is usually the trick for me. I just knock myself the hell out for the whole time I have it. Killing threads since 2004.
  21. No it's not, it was a beautiful 70 degree day today, but I'd still agree, let's start it up... Killing threads since 2004.

  23. Just keep good notes of your issues and who you talk to and when. I had a similar issue with CompUSA - a bad hard drive that snowballed via piles of horrible customer service into me fighting with them and being without a computer for 4 months. I documented every conversation and event, and when it hit rock bottom sent a letter along with my documentation to the president of the company that was visably copied to the BBB and Attorney General's office of the state where their online sales department was located. I overnighted the letter to the president of the company and the next afternoon received a call that I would be receiving a full purchase price refund on a 5 year old computer. Good luck with your phone situation. Just make sure you have the details, and make sure everyone you talk to is forced to hear them all. Might be a pain to recite over and over, but hopefully it will get to the point that they just want to get rid of you and speed things up! Killing threads since 2004.
  24. Rudy Love that movie! Killing threads since 2004.
  25. Wow - I have a whole new appreciate for when things are slowed down. Makes me glad that my flights in and out of JFK have always been red eyes. Killing threads since 2004.
