  1. Kubrick WAS a US citizen, he was born in Bronx, New York in 1928. and skip Godfather 3, it SUCKS and adds nothing to the first two (which are actually the book The Godfather broken down into two films). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  2. another side effect of Vicodin is an inability to piss for several hours - no matter HOW badly you need to. i had a scrip when i slipped a disc, and while ymmv for me it didnt dull the pain, it just made me not care. i will take morphine over it any day of the week. 3. one of the guys at my DZ accidentally did that (he thought he had both front risers) - he said that basically his canopy did a bowtie and it scared the shit out of him. he jumps a sub-100' canopy, so no idea how it would affect a large docile canopy. 4. that is all. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  5. jump #28 - 1st jump on my own gear. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  6. when you really think about it, its all relative. i think modern society gives much less credit to kids (minors) than is due. just 100 years ago the concept of a "minor" didnt really exist when it came to military service, marriage, etc. funny to think that today 50% of marriages end in divorce, but your grandparents and great-grandparents who were married til death do them part likely got married as young as age 13..... 7. 2 broken knuckles and small wrist fracture on jump #2 due to low flare and punching the ground....excellent lesson in not being radio-dependant As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

  9. hey i jump a Sabre 190. i LOVE the way it flies and flares, but holy shit it will spank the F#$K out of you when it opens if it is not packed exactly right. as far as a first canopy (for me anyways) it is an awesome flying wing. just be aware that you are going to pay for that great flying with some bad bruises until you learn to pack it consistantly (still working on that part myself ). 10. nipple piercing was by far the most painful i ever had done (all my piercings have been removed now BTW), and i had a PA, an ampallang, septum, ears, tongue, and lip. my PA took about 4 weeks to heal up, my nipples took almost a year to fully heal (i.e. not cause discharge or pain). i would never get them done again. it probably didntr help that my piercer ran the needle under the actual nipples (through the aureola) to minimize the chance of rejection - i mean he pierced me DEEP). 11. huh...i just watched a fellow jumper femur in a few days ago. i have seen another jumper hit the ground in a hook turn about 7 feet away from me, and yet another hit spinning down in a reserve/main entanglement. all of them lived thank God, but in each case the impact was so hard i thought they were dead. in NONE of those cases did i run forward to see the carnage. you ask about seeing a fatality, i can tell you all you ever need to see is a HARD impact - one that you think the person is dead from. that will cure you from wanting to see an actual fatality, something i pray i will never have to see (but most likely will unfortunately). 12. Hell, i don't even like high performance turns at 5 grand...but that may change as i get more experienced......i doubt it though. i have no plans to learn swooping at the moment. even being on the ground watching it freaks me out a bit. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  13. first time i have seen the video, what an idiot. i could overlook pulling the cutaway, and freaking out, but that line in the interview: "There were powerlines everywhere..." from the ground angle it looked like if he had turned in ANY direction other than continuing straight he would have avoided them. 14. how so? anatomically speaking its the same for women....plus theres the whole bleeding thing As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. an acquaintance from out of town that i took to the DZ to do a tandem jump. she said she had been skydiving before, that a friend had a cessna and loaned her his rig, showed her how to deploy the BOC - she went up and jumped several times with no problems (no training in stability either apparantly). i didnt have to punk her out though, she got down from the tandem jump hyperventalating and puking. later she stuck by her story of soloing from the cessna several times edit to add that the TM later told me she had no idea how to hold an arch and freaked out on the exit. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  16. yes, but I would be wary of doing anything but solos. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. what time does the canopy course start on Friday? and how many jumps do you think it will take during the course? (need to know about how much cash I'm gonna be spending + fun jumps). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  18. hey, just wondering what the opening altitude is for an average BASE jump? I have seen several videos of BASE, and seems like canopy inflation is pretty damn low (some at less than 50' it looks like). oh, and by "opening altitude" i dont mean when you throw the pilot chute, but at what altitude is the canopy open? thanks. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  19. no shooting going on. I accidentally ended up on the bride's side when looking for the toilet, and was politely shown to the toilet and then back to the mens side of the wedding. but on the other hand you are correct - freeing the mind is much easier than liberating the country but keep in mind that we are halfway there in Afghanistan

  21. a whole shitload more seriously though, if I hadn't been staying with a local at the Afghan Womens Educational Center in Kabul I would have been asking for trouble if I even spoke to a woman. and definitely couldn't talk to a woman on the street. even at the wedding I went to the men and women were seperated, and only the groom and his family were allowed on the brides side. i did get to meet her later, and yeah, she was a fox As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  22. AFGHANIS are the currency used in Afghanistan. the PEOPLE are called AFGHANS. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  23. [replyThe popular image is that Afghanistan is now a democratic country with women barefaced in schools, law and order everywhere etc. And that's not really true except around Kabul and a few of the larger cities. WRONG. the women in Kabul and elsewhere (with the exception of really remote areas like Waziristan) who wear the burqa choose to wear it. In fact, many of the Afghan women I spoke to told me that the big deal about the Taliban and the Burqa was not the requirement to wear it, but the fact that it could only be white or mustard colored - they perfer the light blue ones. and yes, there most definitely are women in the schools (and elsewhere) that choose NOT to wear burqa with little or no negative concequences. oh, and Afghan women are friggin BEAUTIFUL. no wonder many choose to cover up.... 24. Afghans actually love the US and Americans for the most part. They do not see us as an occupational force. I was there visiting a friend in September 2003, and never once lied about being American. I got nothing but positive responses, invitations to dinner and lunch, people that refused to accept payment saying "No, no, you helped us defeat the Taliban. We love America", etc. Having said that, there are definitely areas of the country where you do NOT want to go, namely Paktia and anywhere near the Pakistan border - they are still hotbeds of Al-Qaeda and Taliban supporters. Kandahar is also very dicey. Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Panjishir, Bamiyan and Herat are very friendly. Afghanistan is an amazing country and I have every intention of going back this year to visit the many friends I made there. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  25. I am way new to the sport, but already I have witnessed a situation where a jumper HAD to chop below 1K...a gust of wind collapsed the canopy at about 1.2K and it spun up, lines entangled around his leg, he chopped but the wad of crap went nowhere, reserve fired into the whole mess and only partially inflated. fortunately he lived with relatively minor injuries. SO, what about a situation like that (without the entanglement issues)? collapsed canopy at 1K or below resulting in a hard spin...not dependance on the Skyhook, but a real emergency when chopping below the hard deck may be the best way of saving your ass? sounds like the Skyhook is a good deal when faced with a situation like that...
