i have been told that there ar DZs that i cannot jump my current canopy at so i am dealing with that restriction already (Sabre 190 loaded at 1.2). it doesnt really bother me as i would likely rent gear if at one of those DZs or get an evaluation dive on my own gear. if my home DZ adapted the rule i would most likely not be affected since my S&TAs and the DZO were the ones who encouraged me to buy the size canopy i have, and i have been cleared to fly it by both our S&TAs. newbie here, but i would say avoid what i did - doing a lot of solos just screwing around. get some coaching and get your A. especially work on tracking and heading control, it will serve you well if you get into RW. best advice is ask up jumpers and S&TA at your DZ. second best advice is have FUN!!!

thanks for a really useful thread.... in my AFF i was told to wave off at 5500'... i was also told to "deploy" by 5500'. i guess i never really thought about a difference between the two when i have been on loads in the past and asked when i am deploying i usually say around 4000'...but what i MEANT by that was i would wave off at 4K and THEN deploy. guess i will have to modify my definition of deploy... good food for thought, and thank you for it. King Faud decided to allow infidel troops into the holiest land in Islam, and we have been OBLs favorite target since. although i have to say that i met some folks in Afghanistan that knew OBL during the Soviet war and he hated the west even then...he just had better things to do with his time back then, like trying to defeat the Soviets. the point of this post is that any way you look at it, Al Qaeda is largely a self-made problem. going by what a doctor said about bone density and whatnot. basically he said that a younger person can recover from a greater impact than an older person. i guess the equivilant of a fall that would bruise or fracture a bone in a 20ish year old person would likely kill an 80ish year old person.... shit why did you have to ask me the science behind it? edit to add to Jaye i guess you are 100% correct that you will NOT die skydiving in 2006....kinda hard to die skydiving when you dont skydive As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

sorry Jaye but i call BULLSHIT. you can promise but you cant guarantee it. sorry to burst your bubble but this sport kills. period. i have been in the sport less than 3 years, and havent seen a fatality YET (thank God), but there are simply too many variables. i have seen a main/reserve entanglement that most likely would have been fatal had it not been for the age of the jumper (14). and seen 3 people fly themselves into the ground. they dont count in this discussion i guess but there is no way you can say that you will not die skydiving this year. i hope and pray you (and i)i wont but the possibility is there As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

zero fatalities is an excellent goal, but a goal is just that: something to strive for, not necessarilly something that is achievable. our goal at Fedex (where i work) is 100% on time deliveries: never going to happen because there are too many variables (weather, maintenance of aircraft etc). do you realistically think that there will ever be a year without an automobile fatality? without a drowning? without a housefire fatality? its just not going to happen no matter how hard we strive for it or how many rules we have. okay, so no swooping, no bigways, everyone is on a canopy at a .50 wingloading...just last year a guy flew himself into the ground on a Manta 280 and killed himself... all in all its a good goal to have but please be realistic in your approach to it... get your gear AND any gear that belongs to the DZ if you think it hasnt been inventoried. from my understanding of tax laws (which aint much) personal property stored there should be held for reclamation by the owners, but anything belonging to the DZ is subject to public auction to pay the back taxes. just think what the DZO would owe you if you "rescued" a few student and tandem rigs.... just talked to PD after measuring my slider on my Sabre1 190... my current slider is 18"x27". PD recommends a slider of 23"x31" for my canopy. maybe thats why i got knocked senseless on my last opening... of course my new slider wont be ready by this weekend As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
