  1. about 8 feet, was loading an airplane and the ramp evacuation lightning siren went off. we got inside, waited it out. the sirens were turned off so we went to resume the load. two friends of mine were closing the fore and aft belly doors on a dc-10 and i was waiting on the ground to marshall them out when lightning struck the plane. arced through both of them (they were in contact with the aircraft at the time). scared the living shit out of me, knocked one of them out, both went to the hospital but were okay. one had heart palpitations for a couple of hours... 2. my mom freaked, didnt want to hear about it etc, until she saw a video of the Flyboyz doing freeflying. her comment: wow, thats not falling, thats really flying. my dad had mixed emotions but basically said do what makes you happy. he has come to the DZ a couple of times to take pictures of me landing, and bought me a Neptune for Christmas last year. now he wants to do a tandem, and the worry is on me: he has a plate and 7 screws in his left knee from where he got hit by a car walking in a parking lot - it hurts him to step off a curb, and i shudder to think of the consequences if the wind died on his tandem at 50 feet.... 3. i was in Afghanistan 2 years ago (as a tourist but thats another story). and i have been all over Asia. there were NO DZs in Azerbaijan or Afghanistan. Turkey had a couple of DZs but i was not skydiving at that time so i didnt jump. only DZs i have seen in Asia were in Thailand and Turkey. i saw none in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan or Afghanistan. Pretty sure there are none in Pakistan either, India i am not sure. i could be wrong and just have missed something, but as for what i saw it was Thailand, Turkey, or nothing (not counting Malaysia - heard there was some BASE going on there). 4. already replied. i love to watch skysurfing, and my regional director was one of my AFF-Is. i see him almost every weekend, so i will bring it up. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  5. dont look straight down. look out at an angle. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  6. watching skysurfers is what made me want to skydive to begin with. if i had never seen it, who knows if i ever would have done a tandem, much less get licensed? my regional director was one of my AFF-Is and i see him almost every weekend, so no need for me to email him. 7. i load my Sabre 1 at about 1:1.25 and i can tell you it IS a noticable difference from the 210 that i was (mostly) on during AFF. it flies FAST. way faster than i was used to on my first few jumps on it. i have had no problems landing it so far, but honestly i couldnt say i could land it in a super tight area. i have landed off DZ between trees and powerlines, but it was more of a luck type thing than skill. having said that, i was approved by my coach, our S&TA (both of them), and the DZO to purchase and jump the canopy size i have. and, i am not trying to swoop. but in regards to your question, even from my newbie experience there can be a huge difference in flight characteristics between a 210 and a 190. last bit of advice: trust the folks who have seen you fly. they should know what you are ready to fly. *ask your instructors about anything in this post or anything posted on dropzone.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* edit to ad make damn sure you are able to do flat turns - they can save your ass (they saved mine when i was cut off at about 50 feet on final)> As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. no longer in the stomach. they have a new vaccine made from duck embryos that is injected into the arm. it is spaced out so you receive one shot the first visit, then the 7th day, 14th day, 21st day, etc. with a total of seven shots plus the imunoglobulin that is injected at the site of the bite. i may be off on the spacing of the days, its been 4 years since i got mine. 9. i jump a Sabre 1 and it is a bitch on opening. 2 weeks ago it opened hard enough that it knocked me out for a few seconds. i called PD and they recommened sending it in for a reline. i am swithching to Dacron as i was told this will help slow it down. i also have tried all the "tricks" , rolling and stuffing eveything - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. if the reline doesnt help, i am buying a Spectre. good luck with yours. 10. when you shoot up heroin it makes you feel like you just had the worlds most intense orgasm, then you just sit in a corner and rock back and forth whil nodding your head - similiar to X in that the movement feels very intense and pleasurable. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  11. damn that sucks...been through post-exposure rabies vaccination once before, and it HURTS... sorry, but not gonna gloss it over for you. the immunoglobulin injections you receive at the site of the bite are a mother. my doctor actually asked me if i thought i was going to pass out before he gave me that one unlike you, however, i was bitten by a monkey at Angkor Wat in Cambodia... 12. i love hockey and always will, but i think the players AND the owners have fucked themselves. fact: hockey is losing money. fact: hockey has the lowest ratings of any of the major sports. fact: they were only $12 million away from an agreement that would have ended the lockout and allowed an abbreviated season for 05/06. fuck 'em, i will stick with the CHL/IHL/QMJHL. 13. could be packrats....or could be baby mice. my last apartment got an infestation of baby mice and it was exactly what you are describing except the missing shiny stuff. those fuckers would strip the trap clean and never set it off. glue traps they would leave footprints in the glue, they were light enough that they didnt get mired in them. we ended up having to use poison - and found out that they will usually go outside to die (thank God). i did catch 3 of the little fuckers in snap traps, but it took like two weeks of resetting and rebaiting them. i generally love animals, but took GREAT satisfaction at seeing those dead fuckers carcasses. 15. 2 up jumpers at my DZ went to Jamaica last year and said there was no DZ to be had there. so unless they are wrong youre outta luck on that one. sorry. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  16. with all of the people killing and maiming themselves under perfectly good canopies, has anyone else seen the article on the homepage of DZ.com and thought that it may possibly be a solution to that problem? or am i too far out of the box in thinking that? curious to hear what you think.... edit to add i know nothing about ground launches, all of my post is based on info from the article. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. just got off the phone with PD. they recommend sending it in for an inspection and possibly a reline. they also recommended i try a new slider. thinking of switching from microline to dacron if they do have to reline it. thanks for all the info you guys posted for me.
  18. Stick with your Sabre for now and when you pack pull all of the slider out in front of the nose. That should stop it slamming you. just to clarify, are you saying pull all of the slider out front instead of quartering it? i have a pocket slider on it .... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  19. thanks guys, gonna give PD a call. like i said, im no rush to downsize, i like the way the Sabre flies, just sick of the openings. edit to add yes i have landed it off the airport in a fairly tight area between trees and powerlines... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  20. thanks, makes perfect sense now. the pics helped. if i had access to my rig i wouldnt have even asked As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  21. man, i can feel the flames already, but here goes.... i have 40 jumps, 26 on a Sabre 190 that is regularly slamming me regardless of what i roll, stuff etc. i am loading my Sabre at 1.2:1 with no problems on landing so far (first standup landing was my first jump on it). i know i am over the conventional wingloading for my jump numbers, so lets not turn it into that debate please (S&TA, DZO approved purchase). my question is how does a Nitron fly compared to a Sabre? i ask because i was told by an experienced jumper at my DZ that if i was flying a Sabre 190 with no problems, a Nitron 170 would fly the same speed with better flare and no issues with hard openings (yes i know they can all open hard). i am sick of getting slammed (the last one knocked me out for a second and when i came to i was looking at linetwists from my neck to the slider and still spinning up). i really am not interested in downsizing, but i want a canopy that has the same speed and flying charactaristics i am used to on my Sabre. so what do you guys think? ps - not into swooping, just flying my pattern and landing. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  22. damn, i am lost - dont have my rig to look at due to a scheduled reserve repack - can someone explain? why would the riser hold under canopy and then fall off when he landed? does it have to do with the pressure of a hanging body suspended by an inflated canopy? or am i way off here? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  23. just relax and go for it. AFF is kinda like boot camp - when you are done you wonder why you were so apprehensive about it to begin with. have fun. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  24. 120 in Arizona is better than 95 in Memphis Tennessee.....i jumped today and it was 95 with around 90% humidity... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  25. WOW.... i jump a sabre 190, and i am overloading it according to conventional wisdom (1.2:1). today i had a horrible opening that resulted in linetwists from my neck to the slider (wasnt body position either, just a fucked up off heading opening and a slammer to boot - confirmed by the D-licensed jumper i was doing a 2-way with). i managed to get out of the twists before my decision altitude (2K), but i really thought about chopping it. i cant imagine what would happen to this guy in the same situation on a 135 - oh shit, wait a minute....yes i can As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
