  1. Yeah, I know the feeling. I did my open water dives in Colorado in April! Very cold. Somehow all the 1/4 inch wetsuit material in the world can't keep you warm in that kind of water. I was psyched to get to go to the relatively warm (55 degree) waters of the Blue Hole, NM for my advanced open water cert.
  2. Among others... 1. Get my degree 2. Become a professional whitewater raft guide 3. Spend a winter as a ski bum 4. Rowed a Raft down the Grand Canyon and Middle fork of the Salmon River 5. Get my A-License 6. Get a "real" job 7. SCUBA 8. Traveled to some amazing places
  3. 1. Get my pilot's license 2. Learn to Sail and do it! 3. Visit all 7 continents (3 down, 4 to go) 4. Get a helicopter license 5. Hike the Colorado Trail from start to finish in a single trip.
  4. Also, be very aware of what a flapping street clothes can do. A flapping shirt can blow up and cover one or even all of your handles! Imagine going for your hackey at pull time only to find it covered in shirt material, then going for silver to find the same problem
  5. I am interested in this statement. I would think that the higher density altitude which would effectively increase terminal velocity somewhat would also have the same effect on the canopy - decreasing the volume of air presented to the opening and slowing it down. Could the higher density altitude cause the slider to come down that much faster, whilst inflating the cells quickly? At freefall speeds, does air density have that significant of an effect?

  7. It is a card with an xray image of a rig explaining to the TSA personnel what they are seeing when a rig is scanned. It should have come with the cypres. But if you are like me and bought your cypres used, you might not have gotten it. I did find these images of the card which I printed off and carry with my rig when I fly. I also carry the tsa letter when I fly.
  8. Pretty cool They appeear to shift slightly every time I move my eyes a little. So I guess it would be an indicator of slight movements in your eyes? I guess maybe if you cant handle stress well, your eyes will unconsciouslly shift a lot and appear to make them turn or spin??
  9. Try this: http://moon.google.com try zooming in all the way
  10. wow. That's amazing. I saw it the day before they sank it and I've been diving down to the wreck a few times. I can't wait to see it upright! It's a huge ship...I'm really surprised it changed position.
  11. :6:1 Had a great weekend out in California at the American Boogie! I met a few DZ.commers among the many new people I met this weekend! Thanks to all the Davis jumpers who did some fun, even if funneled, RW jumps with me. Beer Owed for first helicopter jump!! What an awesome exit!!
  12. As a relative newbie, I really don't want to give out advice or anything like that, however, here's my take on it. The excess cutaway cable is stowed inside the risers themselves. Without hard inserts, the risers can twist up and bind the cable so that you cannot pull it out. Hard inserts maintain space around the excess cutaway cable even with high pressure on the risers so that the cable can be cleared even in severe linetwists (or with the risers twisted around your arm in your case.) Maybe someone with more experience can explain this more clearly.
  13. Hence the reason I asked about hard riser inserts
  14. You don't CARE what the outcome is?? You had a problem that almost killed you and you dont care to know what happened and what you could have possibly done to prevent it??
  15. lol?? That doesn't sound funny at all... You are lucky to have survived. Why couldn't you cutaway? Did the rig have hard riser inserts?
  16. As luck would have it I'm flying to Sacramento for the weekend! I'll be in Chico for a wedding on friday and saturday morning, but I'll be in Davis Saturday afternoon and Sunday!
  17. Look Familiar? I dont know if it's the same sort of scam, but you gotta be careful out there.
  18. Whitewater rafting on the Dolores river in SW Colorado. It is flowing higher now than it has flowed 12 years!!!
  19. Then you must be using it wrong. Jet Boils are great! We used one last winter at the top of the North Pole at A-Basin in a blizzard to drink tea! I think it's the most efficient stove design I have ever seen.
  20. Two fish are swimming along on day when they swim into a concrete wall. One fish turns to the other fish and says, "Dam!"
