At first my reaction to this was to think that the odds of this happening would have to be astronomically high...something on the order of one in a trillion. While researching this I came across this article about meteors and Flight 800. It is well researched and written. One astronomy professor from Columbia was quoted, So it does seem somewhat in the realm of possibility of things that could happen. Based on some evidence, an astrophysist from Rhodes said However, a NASA researcher said So my opinion? At first it seemed like the odds of such a thing happening were way too small, however given some of this information, it now seems possible. I still doubt that this is what actually happened...but it does carry some merit..

I think a lot of this is due to the vast area and relative sparseness of the US population. The population density in Japan is 340/square km, Korea is 490/square km. The US population density is 32/square km. The infrastructure required to get broadband to the average American is much much higher then in most other countries with high population densities. We are also way behind in many wireless technologies such as digital radio and wireless phones for the same reason.

I would love to get 30 mins too.

Here's to us... Those like us... The Dammed few... And they're all dead.

I'll be there. It was too much fun last year not to come back this year!! Moab is a spectacular setting for skydiving. I found it to be distracting in freefall! You can see Arches N.P. right across the highway, Canyonlands is not far off, The Colorado river and innumberable side canyons disappear off into every direction... I can't wait.

I just spent 4 days backpacking in the weiminuche wilderness area in southwest colorado. We hiked about 36 miles over three 12,000+ foot high passes in 4 days. It's an amazing place...I took over 100 photographs on my cheap digital camera. Here are my favorites. pict1: Vestal Peak pict2: Upper Vallicito Basin pict3: Columbine Lake pict4: What I saw when I opened my tent in the morning. pict5: Our ride to and from the wilderness

What's the funniest game or activity that you have seen at a party?
davedlg replied to VanillaSkyGirl's topic in The Bonfire
"The Rubber Room" In the years I spent as a whitewater raft guide I went to a lot of riverwide parties where one company would throw a big party and invite all of the other companies guides. These were huge parties...hundreds of raft guides would show up. My favorite parties were at our neighboring company. They would set up the inside of their boathouse with inverted whitewater rafts lining the floor, ceiling and walls. They would also have ropes hanging from the ceiling for people to swing around on. Imagine an industrial sized bouncy castle filled with several dozen drunk raft guides wrestling and bouncing all over the place. Raft guides, by the way, are very very much like skydivers. Inevitably every year there would be a multitude of guides injured in the rubber room. -

try exiting your mysql client. Go to the DOS command line (START>RUN>"COMMAND") type something like this: c:\mysql\bin\mysqldump -p(your password) (the database name) > C:\dump.sql
-
Okay that makes a lot more sense now. Anytime you write a mysql statement, you have to end it with a ";" otherwise "->" is all you will ever see. I dont know much about the winxp command line client, but you might try looking to see if there is a msqldump client, perhaps you can run it from a dos command line?
-
If you are getting "->", you are within Mysql. Type "exit" to get out of mysql and into the unix/linux command line. Then try the mysqldump command. Edited to add: You may have to hit ";" first...it looks like mysql is expecting a statement end.

perhaps you dont have the proper permissions to write to the directory you are trying to read or write the file to?? Try chmod to change the permissions of the directory you are writing to. Also, check to see if the file is actually there... IIRC, there is no feedback to tell if it has actually worked.
-
try the command mysqldump -p(your password) (the database name) > file.sql from the command line (not from within mysql) This is what I do to dump the database and it works every time.

The easiest way is to use a prepackaged shareware program to build one. PHPBB http://www.phpbb.com/ seems to be among the most popular. You will need access to a server with php and MySql to do this.

Wow, I feel unpopular after comparing myself to everyone else in this thread. I wonder how it computes the score though. Mine seems to change depending on who I am comparing myself to.

How high are you talking about? The dropzones I usually jump at are all over 5,000 feet in altitude. On some recent hot days we had a density altitude in excess of 9,000 feet.
-
I work on the top floor of a 12 story office building. I am always looking out the window thinking...okay I would be on final at this altitude and I would land about - there- looking at a point in the parking lot. Also whenever I drive around and see a big field, I think, " I could land a parchute there" I went backpacking a few weeks ago and found myself reaching back to check my hackey from time to time.

I did my first two tandems in college. I very much wanted to go through AFF at that time. I decided that there was no possible way to afford it. So, I waited a few years, graduated, got a 'real' job and started skydiving again. I can now afford to pay for it...there is absoloutely no way I could have afforded it in college. In the year since I started jumping, I have spent approx $7,000 on the sport. About my parents, I managed to get my dad to show up at a dropzone when I was jumping. I showed him how the parachute system works while I was packing it, I explained how the cutaway and reserve systems work. He watched all the landings in the landing area. I think seeing it first hand really helped him understand. In fact the only concern he had after a few hours of watching landings was that I would downsize too quickly and start high speed landing approaches before I was ready...smart guy for a whuffo, huh? There's a lot of good advice in this thread. Your relationship with your parents and getting through College is really more important than skydiving in the long run.

A guy I know at the dropzone was looking everywhere for his wrist mount altimiter. Finally he gave up, borrowed an altimeter and went on a jump. When he opened, the altimeter came out of the d-bag with the canopy and he almost caught it during the snivel, but it fell to the ground.

Yeah it took me awhile. I was looking all over the house, the bathroom, my gf's car and couldnt find them anywhere. The only other place I had been that night was the grocery store. I still have no idea how I left them there.

1 Class 4 whitewater rapid swam by myself and 3 other DZ.commers : 5 : 0 Good weekend! I jumped all day Saturday. We got in a good hybrid and a few fun RW jumps, and finished the day with a sunset cross country. On Sunday morning I took Derek, Kelli, Andre and a few others whitewater rafting in the Royal Gorge. Coming into one of the bigger rapids we hit a rock, almost flipping the boat and throwing everyone but Andre into the river. A few people took some longer swims, but everyone was fine. All in all it was a great weekend.
