  1. My name is Carl Dunham, and I run a small software company that does R&D on targeted marketing. We are a sub of NetZero, the coolest (free) ISP on the planet. What this really means is that I spend my days (less the 60% spent here

    I'm Jealous

I think this means that her partner did the "polite American standard".

And you can still type? And operate complex machinery?
  4. I keep hearing that Sebastian is the place to go in Florida these days. All these New England snow birds rave about it! Carl
  5. Thanks, Donna. Jumptown was my choice, but the wife wanted to hang with her friends in Pepperell (off the DZ, natch). Once her bud in Irving comes back to town, she can hang out there while I jump. Had fun, met some cool folks, didn't compete, thanks. Glad to hear you are getting back in the swing of things! I'll bet Bernie had a blast with those guys. Tell Don I'm sure we'll both be out there at some point this summer. I should be up there in August fer sher! Carl
  6. Well, the other reason to cut away is to get the main out of the way should the deployment of the reserve force a main deployment. Less mess to deal with. Your choice.
  7. Nice job, man. Welcome back! You're going to be one of the last people in the sport that can talk about landing under a round, reserve or otherwise. Something to tell your grandkids about when they're flying around on levitating skateboards or whatever. Carl
  8. The old thread is here. My favorite non-skydiving license plate is LQQK. I like the self-referential irony. Carl
  9. Nice! I'll bet those "quick-release harnesses" caused some tragic malfunctions! By the way, please refer to me as "Captain Action" from now on.
  10. Heh, just think. Soon you'll be doing dives like this just for fun, just because you can, because, why not? Nice work! Carl
  11. Ya know, I think it's time I thought about being an AFF instructor! Nice, one, K! Carl
  12. Damn, moving right along! Nice work, guys.
  13. Key, kimmer! One thing you can try if you aren't already is deep breathing, yoga-like. Draw it in through your nose (3-4 seconds), hold it (3-4 seconds), let it out through your mouth (3-4 seconds). Helps dissipate adrenaline, endorphines, whatever. Remember, you are activating your fight/flight response. Some physical activity will help also (jump up and down, whatever, just move), but at some level, it is going to help you be sharper for the "fight" you are about to get into. Use the energy to your advantage. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
  14. Nice one! Keep it going, gurl!
  15. Technically, he's a clever bunny. Or, a wascally wabbit.
  16. Sounds great! Heh, tried to hook it in, did you? By the way, I love your little animated picture. I've been on skydives like that!
  17. The pickled ginger is actually eaten by itself to "cleanse the palette", so you get the true flavor of the different pieces. So, all this talk about sushi made me hungry, so I went out and got some (the local foofie market makes it right there, you can buy little boxes for like $5). I got the spicy tuna, yum! Turns out that the green stuff you get is usually imitation wasabi, made up of horseradish, mustard and tellow and blue food coloring. Who knew!
  18. Any dz.commers going to be at Pepperell this weekend? I've got a family thing on Saturday, but hope to be out there on Sunday. Maybe Saturday evening for the sunset load. There is a New England League meet going on, any idea what that's about? Can we enter an improptu dz.com team? Blue Skies (finally!) Carl
  19. Wasabi is actually like a very strong horseradish or mustard! You would have been SHOCKED if you thought it was avocado!
  20. - You do a "gear check" in the morning to make sure you have your keys, phone, pager... - On commercial flights, you bring an altimeter to what elevation the pressurization gives you - Also, on take-off and landing, you try to guess the altitude every 30 seconds - And during the flight, you look for airports and try to see if there are any canopies in the air down there - Driving, you looks for "outs" and give "clearance" to the "downwind" cars - Unconciously, and in an odd place, you touch your ribcage where the cutaway and reserve handles would be - Every story anyone tells you reminds you of a skydiving story, or something someone posted on dz.com - You bookmark the weather reports for the towns the DZs are in, but not your own
  21. Pammi, less Brokedown Palace, more Apocalypse Now. "What are they gonna say about him? What are they gonna say? That he was a kind man? That he was a wise man? That he had plans? That he had wisdom? Bullshit man!"
  22. Pammi, the key to wasabi is getting enough. Too little, and it's just a sharp spice, but when it reaches "critical mass"... BAM!! What a rush! Carl, sushi junkie
  23. Totally agree. The DZO has the right to ground and/or ban him, and you have the right to refuse to jump with/near him. While he doesn't have the "right" to skydive how he wants, I think we would all prefer the freedom to do things "our way". I just hope someone talks some sense into him before his exercise of his individuality and freedom cause someone their life or limb. Carl
  24. You bet. Just won't be allowed out of the house with it.
  25. I know riding the bike, I have had mixed luck with sunglasses. Some designs work great, others don't. And head angle makes all the difference, like PT says. I guess it could work! I know that high-speed wind can cause as much damage as a foreign object, so it pays to be careful about goggles/eyewear. I have an abrasion that keeps eroding on my left eye (sounds gross, but its really just a little irritating when it opens, like a new scrape - happens a lot when the air is dry, like in winter w/the heat on). Anyway, I got it originally from wind after losing goggles. Carl
