  1. This is probably a good one to post in the Video/Photog forum. Those folks would know. The one that has been recommended to me is the Olympus CAMEDIA C-3000 (or whatever). You definitely want at least 3 megapixels, and the 4 and 5 megapixel cameras are probably more that you need/want to spend. I also like the Elphs, for their size, if you wanted to mount them on a helmet or something. I don't own a digital cameral at all (yet), so these recommendations come second hand, or from my own research. Good luck, and let us know what you decide on!
  2. Just to be parochial for a minute. This situation applies to the BOC, but not pull-out. Premature container opening would deploy the p/c. Granted, it could hang up on something on its way out, but not as likely as the stowed throw-out.
  3. "You people! If it hasn't been made into a movie, it's not worth knowing about, is that it? You tell someone you're a Metatron, they stare at you blankly. You mention something out of a Charlton Heston movie and suddenly everyone is a theology scholar!" - Metatron, Dogma
  4. Could you have her give mine a call?
  5. Pammi, there are places that will pring digital pix on photo paper, and you could even get a really nice inkjet these days that will print stunning pictures for not all that much, like

    COME TCHATING

Even better, check out XChat. They have both Win32 and *n[ui]x versions.
  7. Actually, it's working for me now on Linux as well.
  8. I saw the same thing the other day on Linux, using Mozilla, but it worked fine today at work using IE on Windoze.
  9. The Oracle has spoken wisely. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Bill.
  10. Sounds great, fred. It's tough to learn how to fly 10 seconds at a time, no doubt. Static line is a challenge like this. It sounds like you have the attention to what you are doing, and are committing yourself to learning. This is great. It never ends in this sport. Some humility and modesty, especially at the beginning, are good things to have. It opens your mind to the advice and guidance of your instructors, mentors, peers, by-standers... Well, maybe not by-standers, but you never know! Rock on!
  11. And after all that, he might not become a veteran until 1200?
  12. Ever notice that there are far fewer 'B' license holders out there than 'A'? Think about it.
  13. You are generally better off buying used gear to start with, so you don't have to drop a big load of $$$ right off the bat on something that long-term you may not want to stay with. If you buy some decent, cheap used gear, you can save up your money (yeah, right), try different stuff, get more experience, form your own biases and opinions, and then get your true love gear in a year or so. Worked for me, other than that saving money thing.

    There's even a Kalamazoo Zoo!
  15. I'll bet some of the CRW guys will have "normal" canopies with them as well, or any of the video guys would prolly be cool w/it, if they knew you weren't going to hose them.
  16. Here is a better article about D4DR. Einstein was a sort-of philosophical BASE-jumper, plunging into unexplored head-space. It seems certain that wherever our energy comes from, the activity that results is subject to our creativity. We are the choreographers of our own passion Ya, mon.
  17. Better yet, get someone to do air-to-air, much cooler. Ground-to-air looks cheesy, imo. Carl
  18. You left out animal magnetism, charm, sex appeal and drop dead good looks! There is evidence that there is a risk-taking "gene" - D4DR that, like all genes, is inherited. Check out your family and trace it, fer real. They can test kids for it. Anyway, recently they are thinking that this gene causes us to have "issues" with our dopamine receptors, so the normal activities of life that provide hapiness for others just aren't enough for us. We require more stimulation to be happy. There is also higher incidence of addiction, hyperactivity and drug use, esp cocaine. Big news there, eh?
  19. Yup, always have, always will. I love it. I think that like everything, there are fashions and fads. All systems work well, just right now BOC throw-outs are what people know, what their JMs jump, etc. Dare to be different!
  20. Hey, while you're at it, we need a name for the kid. It's a boy, and I've already thought of Patrick and Rob. Plus, if he's going to be born at a DZ, there's a certain California desert location that comes to mind...
  21. Cool, because we should now expect a drop in the PC-110, PC-9 prices, I would think!
  22. We used to have a student ParaCommander we lovingly referred to as the "puke chute". I'll let your imagation fill in the details, and advise you not to hold back! I was talking to the guy who used to be our rigger there (still is for most of us), and he says he still has it and jumps it once a year or so! Ewwww! Gross on so many levels!
