It's a 24' Phantom. I should really have a 28'. Hmmm. Does anyone know where I can find a sizing chart for these? I had no luck searching on the Web.

Give me a check for $45 made out to "David Hersey" and I'll consider it!

Sorry, man, but that was the third one. First was a two-out beauty courtesy of our friends at FXC (student gear, just after graduating). Turns out I had broken my hand (OK, pinky ) the previous jump and didn't realize it. When I saw the two canopies, I cut the square main away. Ended up landing in a tree. Not a happy thing to do in January in Connecticut. The second was a straight-forward line-over.

So, I saw an old friend over the weekend. Usually I only see her on the rigger's table, but this time she was over my head. She was a welcome sight, and pretty, but DAMN, did she slap my ass! Word to the wise: a smaller canopy can be fun, unless it's ROUND, then it just hurts like hell. By the way, if you want to get people's attention at the dz, forget the hot swoops. Land a round reserve. Apparently no one uses these any more, so they are a pretty rare sight. You will see old men crying, young girls fainting, skygods trembling. Well, maybe not, but you get the idea. Not only have few people seen a round, but neither have they seen a "real" plf! Everyone commented on the "hard landing", except the old guys, who were duly impressed (thank you, thank you ). Truth be told, I was worried about the landing, but the opening is what hurt. Another word to the wise. If you are jumping a pull-out, and the pin is hard to push in, and your hand is sore so you decide to try a different way of pulling, and you have to track a little extra and go a little lower to avoid traffic, be prepared to plf. Chain of events, 'nuff said. Carl

Hey, that looks just like my Raven III, except it's a seven cell, alternating black and purple. I'm kind of tired of it, because the canopy is old and I've been looking at it so long, but I still get compliments on it! Carl

Well, it depends what you mean by "shoot the shiznit", maybe it already has!

That's what we're here for. Welcome to the skydiving safe house! (or nut house, if you prefer ).

Viking, you are nothing but a 'me' generation wannabe! Let me tell you, kiddo, when we were your age, we went out and smoked pot, crashed our parents' car, and called them things way worse than BITCH (on the inside). Why I can't think of one of my friends who would have gone through the hassle you are with you grandfather. Too busy screwing off and getting high. So, while you may think your generation knows how to slack, forget it. We invented it, and it hasn't been the same since. Sheeat, by the time you have kids, they'll probably rebel by doing volunteer work n shit.

Oh, feel the love, people, feel the love! I think I'm gonna cry now. >snif<

I was thinking about buying a truck, but I think I'll wait and get one of these instead!!

Safe travels, d00d. Looking forward to catching you next time. Michelle, zclubber, and I just watched the video again last night. LMFAO!

The Perris Extreme guys do one full-altitude hop-n-pop so you can see how various control inputs effect the canopy flight. It helps to have someone flying next to you so you have a reference point. Using the ground as you get close to it presents certain difficulties.

Oh, shit, you're right. Oops.

Huh? Is this a hygiene thing?

What they said. In addition to tunelling X Windows, you can set up tunnels for any other listening port (on either side, any machine that either side can see). I use this to access servers at work from home though the NAT/firewall. As far as clients go, puTTY is OK, but I like TeraTerm with the ssh mods better. My favorite, tho, is OpenSSH. There is a nice Windows port of it available as part of the most excellent Cygwin package. If you are a Unix person stuck in a Windows world, you owe it to yourself to install these tools. It contains basically all of the GNU stuff and more, ported to Winblows. Carl

Hey, Tom, welcome! Check it out, I have some of your pictures on my home page! In fact, the little clip of me here is from one of them. I'm generally over at Perris, but a bunch of us are planning to head over to Elsinore at some point this weekend, maybe we can jump together then. Carl P.S. How did you like The Goal?
-
Well, that may be because it was more like freeflying than we generally like to do in a four-way! More Pictures

Well, it's great that you are holding your own on the wreck, but you still haven't addressed the core issues here. Where is the proof, evidence, or named sources that would allow us to make a more informed decision about this supposed design flaw? If there is none, than this is simply iresponsible rumor forwarding, and not worth paying attention to. Period!

What, it's not for the love of the sport??
-
Yow, nice one, Paul! I'm the black and purple guy in the base to the left of Kate (call it 10:30). Albatross is almost directly across from me (in blue) in the zipper.

There were also a couple of dz.com entrants in both this month and last month's Skydiving.
-
Two words. Do it! You will have 1-on-1 time with the best in the world. There should be a bunch of us out there and over at Elsinore this weekend. Check out Viking's post for reference pix! Carl

fred, it's funny you posted this. I had some downtime this weekend and was flipping through my log books, and had a laugh about my student s/l progression. I seem to recall that I was a bit of a wiz, yet the documentation states otherwise! Those intermediate (5s, 10s) delays are tough! There's like no time to correct anything! I kept going over on my right side. Generally not a Good Thing. I was watching some old video a couple of months ago, including my off-instruction jump. Cripes, was it painful! I was chipping all over the place, but apparently they didn't care about that back then, because I had never even heard the term before this year, and there is not mention in the logs. No mention either of the dorky moustache, which I had in the eighties, and didn't get rid of until way too far into the nineties. So, I'm not saying I'm Joe Skydiver now, but you can relax knowing that it will all come eventually. Someone mentioned riding a bike. Good analogy. It extends to long times off also. Coming back after six years away, the basics just came naturally. The more advanced stuff, well..... Carl
