This is actually really great. I just expected that we would never hear from them again, or they would just send a unit and a "dunno", or worse, nothing. The fact that they tracked this down, and actually found the problem is a very good thing! Believe it or not, almost every piece of software and most complex electronic systems have some bugs somewhere, and testing will only go so far (you can't test for every possible component failure!). But now, at least one more defect has been detected, and can now be tested for and/or prevented altogether. Carl
  2. It is never morbid or wrong to question, investigate, argue, listen, read, search for information about fatalities and injuries in this sport. It is by thoroughly examining every aspect of every incident and the statistics of them overall that the sport becomes safer. Carl
  3. Gloves and pull-outs can still work. If you wear those big ski gloves, you will have a problem with any kind of deployment system. In fact, I would say that if you can't use a pull-out, you won't be able to get your cut-away handle either, imho. I know lots of winter NE jumpers who use pull-outs, and wear gloves. Carl
  4. Yuch again! What is it with you people and ice cream and beer!
  5. Since when is this a woman only thing?
  6. There is a fairly complete discussion here although I'm still not sure we completely defined "finishing". lol! I think "getting up for a drink" was about as close as we came, pardon the pun.
  7. eBay is nuts with stuff! All those dot-coms, and some bigger companies are liquidating like mad, and eBay is one of the places a lot of it is ending up. Hope everyone is safe. Good luck to you all!
  8. Ack. Sometimes I read too fast. O'Douls and ice cream. Gross!
  9. Actually, that idea is more like 500 years old. In fact, it was also inspired by the inventor seeing people leaping to their deaths from a burning building. You may fall into a category of "great minds thinking alike".
  10. Thanks, Michelle. It's not so much the mortgage thing that fries me, as the salesperson using the attack as a way to sell a frikkin loan! I love capitalism, but sheesh!
  11. Some ideas on how to more effectively deter aircraft hijacking. I like the call to arms and the high-G maneuvers!
  12. "Dropzone.com: eroding corporate productivity one thread at a time."
  13. Very true. The best case scenario is that he spends the rest of his life in an orange jumpsuit, slowly being forgotten and becoming more irrelevant as his followers die off (actively or passively). Another point: there are going to be important military actions, and American troops are going to die, as are innocent civilians, but ultimately, it will be the accountants and bankers that will win it. Money is the ultimate supply line, after all.
  14. Anyone else starting to see this? My wife has been looking around for a refinance for our mortgage. One of the reps just told her "the largest holder of bonds was the world trade towers and now that they were destroyed the mortgage rates are unstable" and that we should hurry to lock in our rates. Needless to say, the bastard lost the sale.
  15. I find it very offensive, for two reasons. First, who are you* to tell me how to raise my family? Second, what makes you think I wanted to die before I had the kid? I want to be there for him, yes, but I wanted to "be there" before also! Come to think of it, is that all you think of me? As a caregiver for a child? I didn't mean as much to you before? WTF? Doh! * metaphorcal "you", I'm not yelling at you, Justin. Natch.

    Bush to Taliban:

What, not criticize elected officials? That's downright un-American!!
  17. Nice ones! Hey, I just got a video capture thing. I'm going to try to upload a copy of our jump, and some of the 20-ways you were on, I think.
  18. Right on! Don't forget to pick up your obligitory copy of What to Expect When You're Expecting and add the pregnancy calendar to My Yahoo! BTW, prepare yourself to start hearing "well, I guess you'll be giving up skydiving now!". Grrrrr.
  19. Yeah, there are a few other items missing off that list. I'm just too modest to mention them.
  20. God bless you all. We are proud to have you there to do what has to be done. Let us know if there's anything we can do back here.
  21. Lori, that's great! I would have loved to see that. I've given quite a bit of thought to the whole emergency ejection thing. I figure there's not much of a chance that they would let us out over an open field in a routine situation, but if the whole plane is burning in, why not? The main problem I see is that during an emergency, the aircraft is likely to be in a pretty unstable configuration, and getting to the rig, getting it on, and finding an exit are going to be very tough. Then, once you find a way out, you will need to avoid intakes, potentially burning parts, not to mention the speed of the slipstream at that point. Not that I wouldn't be trying, assuming we weren't busy trying to subdue terrorists. Carl
  22. Congrats, man! Whattya doin?
  23. I've heard that there are a significant number of military families living on welfare. Guess we have to save the big $$ for the toilet seats, eh?
  24. All true, perhaps, but it still sucks that teachers have to pay out of their own pockets for supplies. Cheney sucks.
