How do you explain Skydiving to whuffo friends?
bob.dino replied to GogglesnTeeth's topic in The Bonfire
The best way I've heard it explained: "You come for the skydiving, and stay for the people." -
Nice. I'll buy you guys a few beers for building the sport I've come to love. Thanks.
-
That looks damn cool. Unfortunately I won't be at either - I've gotta head on to Ireland, the UK, and Japan to see family and friends. On this trip, the skydiving is just a nice bonus. Next year I should have some more $ and less team commitments... we'll definitely have to organise beer somewhere around the globe! ps: smack the Oshkosh webmaster: there's a t in Liberty (see the title of the page)

KellyF works at Infinity. Call or PM him and you can get a definitive answer. That said, on other containers (specifically Talons) it's an easy mod for a rigger.

Ryanair and Easyjet in Europe are doing the same thing to the major airlines. They're ruthless about cost containment. As long as time is not 100% critical, I'll fly with Ryanair any day of the week. 20% of the cost, 80% of the service of full-service airlines.

The APF's A Guide To Beginning Freeflying has a very good gear checklist on page 3. -
Collapsible Pilot Chutes - Unnecessary additional risk?

Did you manually pull the pin, go red then silver, or just silver? /curious -
Congrats!

This is the full-size version of my avatar. It's a crop of a larger pic, but since I don't have the full version in work, you'll just have to live without the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background... For the nosey amongst us, it was taken on my birthday in 2004, as myself and my then girlfriend were having tapas, beers, and cocktails. Good day.

How to wear sunglasses properly when Skydiving..?
bob.dino replied to partyboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Get a Z1 with the gold competition visor. It massively reduces glare, while still being transparent enough to make eye-contact for 4-way. -
Thanks for the tip, but given the costs involved in the rest of this trip, methinks LA accomodation will be in the "as cheap as humanly possible without having my rig nicked" price bracket.

And a slalom course around the boat masts . Slightly more seriously: salt water near your gear is a very bad idea.

July 10. Cancer is even better!
-
Rental? Could your gear dealer sort you out with something for the boogie?
-
As in the hinge that holds the visor, just above your ears? From memory, yup, plastic, with a spring inside. Pretty tough though, and unlike an Oxygn A3, a Z1 will survive exiting a plane with the visor up. Oh, and the locking mechanism is damn sturdy too. That said, I've only done a couple of hundred on mine. It'd look as good as new if I was a little more careful about not knocking it off tables .

Hi, Just a minor one. When posting to the Incidents forum, the guidelines reference the Talkbalk forum instead of the Bonfire: Not exactly a big deal, but if you have a spare minute....

What's RWSD?

I love the shot from inside the Herc. Very nice indeed.

Suggestion: pick those posts/threads that contain the most information, and link them in this thread. Save future generations some time .

Where are you going to be in a fortnight? That's a lot of beer you have to buy! edit: actually, if you're in Perris between July 30 & August 3, or in LA on August 4th, the beer is on me. Even if only for the entertainment value of the Scary Stories from the Old Days thread

I've not done many, but the things I look out for: Wind direction. You don't want it to be offshore. Spot. Look before you get out! Random spectators. Especially kids. Sand will get everywhere. I don't think there's anything you can do about that
