  1. Just a suggestion: next time, post in General Skydiving Discussions. You'll find a more receptive audience there. After all, The Bonfire is "for non-skydiving related discussions." On topic, is there any video on the 'net of the jump? Living in Australia, I don't get NASCAR.
  2. Perris do substantially discounted team rates, and they have a tunnel on site. Contact them for more.
  3. Does overlaying involve stitching a piece of material over the existing one, solely for cosmetic purposes? Does that noticably affect the stiffness or geometry of the flaps?
  4. That's very normal. I still get that fear, and so do lots of other skydivers. If we're opening the door for hop n pops, I notice my heartrate go up and sweat appearing on the palms of my hands...
  5. :5:0 5 jumps with the team to get back into the swing of things. Sunday was a lazy day helping a mate buy garden furniture, and sniggering when she spent double her budget .
  6. Teach whatever you like in religion/civics/ethics class; science class is for science. That's the problem here: Kansas want to impose religious doctrine on science teaching.
  7. I worked it out, but only because both terms are side by side, which allows me to compare and contrast. If, however, I encountered 'landmark pattern' in a document without explanation, it would take me quite a while to figure out what you were on about. This is a vote for 'yes'.
  8. That's not the case at Perris. My gear is TSO'd, and upon visiting at the start of the month, they said they adhered to other countries repack cycles. So my PA Talon with Airforce reserve was in date even though all components are TSO'd and it was packed about 130 days prior. This was also confirmed by email prior to my visit.
  9. One thing to note: Jolt contains 27g of sugar. That has a major effect - you can get on a cycle of highs and lows from the sugar rush. That's why I've decided to cut out colas from my jumping days. Well, maybe one can of coke/pepsi near the very end of the day...
  10. That can be hard if they have a grip around your neck and you're both vertical. Obviously you've screwed up if that's the case, but it could still happen. My personal drill for that one, if I couldn't break the hands apart, was to force their chin up and away to give me the clearance to go down. Thankfully I never had to go into the water after someone. My eyesight wasn't up to scratch for beach work, and pool work is 98% prevention.
  11. I was going to respond with 'ditto'. But on second thoughts I figured I should point out that I'm interested in a female SO. Preferably on the same continent. Intercontinental phone sex gets expensive after a while.
  12. Sounds about right. It's now owned by John McWilliams (who normally flies it) and Sydney Skydivers & has the biggest step you've ever seen on an aircraft. Johnny Mc has no problems letting you practice exits; he's an FS guy and has been to a few World Meets in 4-way, representing Australia. It's a weird experience getting exit advice from the pilot .
  13. Basically, yes. Caffeine makes you more alert, among other things. http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/health-info/drug-alc/caffeine.html http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/caff.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine#Metabolism_and_toxicology
  14. People. New things to try. Beer. That'll do for now...
  15. It's a 170. But you're welcome to play if you'd like.
  16. Are the banks solid? After filling our pond, we had to wait quite a while for them to firm up before swooping it. Otherwise we'd have destroyed the nice clean sides that cost so much...
  17. What size is the engine in your truck? Most domestic electricians I know use small car-style vans (eg. Renault Kangoo) with 1.6-2.0l engines, and they get 30mpg+. edit: I should note that this is in Ireland and the UK, not in Australia, where people are also addicted to trucks.
  18. While you're at it, could you come up with a way to distinguish between the singular and plural forms of 'you'?
  19. Me? Work in skydiving? I prefer being able to afford to eat . See you at Christmas! If you're based in NSW, tickets at Picton are $29 each if you buy 100. Usual aircraft are a Twin Otter and Skyvan, with an occasional Turbine Beaver (10 seat; fast). Picton is my home. Warnervale (up near Newcastle) is now operating the Pink Cresco (10 seat turbine). Their ticket prices are $37 each, $32 for 10, or $29 if you buy 100. It's been reopened fairly recently, and I've not been there, so I can't tell you much about the facilities, atmosphere, or people. Those are the only two turbine DZs that cater to the sport-jumper market in NSW. I can't really speak for QLD, VIC, or WA.
  20. ...and it definitely beats waitressing as a way to earn the dollars needed for learning to skydive.
