  1. He should have fobbed you off with more grace, but otherwise I agree with Tonto.
  2. In any other industry it'd be under 2 months, but I've had to adapt to the fact that the skydiving industry just doesn't work that way... so 2-4 months. Three Fedex shipments is three weeks, so all the rest of the time is time they have to rectify the problem. Every company makes mistakes. The difference is in how they deal with them.
  3. Allez les Bleus! (yeah yeah, it's a rugby chant, but whaddya do).
  4. You spend a lot of time denying that you got up to any hanky-panky at SkyFest. Methinks the lady doth protest too much!
  5. Yup, but then you can't edit it either . The problem with using JPG for image storage is that editing and re-saving the image results in a measurable quality loss. So, until you've got that image in its final form, use a lossless format such as PNG, TIFF, or PSD.
  6. ...and that's exactly what they're trying to avoid .
  7. Which store? BTW, it took quite a while for me to notice the sunnies in that pic .
  8. Moruya is probably going to be on again next year, in late Feb. It's a whole lot of fun! Contact RunRun and see whether they've nailed down dates...
  9. If the big band is too loose I double-stow/knot it on the d-bag, leaving a single stow around the lines.
  10. Seconded. I've loads of fun with mine, and it's very forgiving of my somewhat-less-than-optimal packing technique.
  11. Scuba diving yesterday means no jumping today... my team is jump-number-limited, so no more non-team jumps for me this year . Except for Perris .
  12. A lot of people I know have had success with VLC: www.videolan.org/vlc
  13. Local authorities in Europe were paying Ryanair to land flights at local airports. The reasoning was that it was much easier to attract businesses to the area if they had good transport links, and the extra tourist euro weren't exactly bad news either.

  15. That's a pity . Might be worth contacting Sky Systems and seeing if they offer anything...
  16. Winter's going pretty well here too. At the end of July I'm off around the Northern Hemisphere to experience their summer, then back for some serious team training. Worries: work is a little iffy at the moment, but we shall see what happens.
  17. ...and I think you're one now. We appear to be in the middle of another transition. For better or worse, high-performance canopies are here to stay, and no-one has quite figured out the right way to help everyone coexist. Most DZOs aren't idiots (well... maybe financially ) and they'll do what they can to sort out problems at their dropzone. However, if they don't believe there's a problem, or if it's just another one of the 250 problems on their plate, they're not going to bust balls to fix things. How about approaching the DZO and talking to him or her about the following points? You feel unsafe. You love this DZ and want to continue to jump here. Fast and slow canopies in the same pattern are causing problems - slower canopies can't see fast canopies planning 90-180-270° turns above and behind them, and fast canopies are getting cut off by slower canopies sashaying. Separate patterns and landing areas is one potential solution. Willing to be constructive in finding a solution that benefits all parties. Or, you could approach one of the respected swoopers at your DZ over a beer. If you just state the problem (stress that you feel unsafe) and ask them for ideas on how to fix it, you'll get a lot more buy-in. They're not the enemy. After all, we're all skydivers .
  18. Check my profile; I've 300 jumps on a Spectre 190. I'd happily agree that the openings take 600-800ft. I'd say that canopy-wider-than-the-slider is a long time after the start of the opening and that that's what caused the confusion.
  19. What do you mean by 'opening starts'? 3 seconds sounds awful long; per Bill Booth it should take 0.6-0.9s from pitch to linestretch.
  20. Time. Mine weren't happy I started skydiving, but over time they've relaxed a bit. They'll probably never be completely happy about it, but they've grown to accept it's part of me. edit: btw, good to have you here. Welcome to the gang!
