  1. Exactly. I really don't think this sport needs fans or fanboys. GQ: sorry if that sounds harsh, but if I wanted to watch sport, I'd be at home in front of the telly. For me, skydiving is about being part of the action, not being a spectator.
  2. No spares. Distance from rig manufacturer's plant to my home DZ: 20min drive. I should sort some stuff out, but since I've currently got two rigs, it's not a big deal.
  3. I can't speak for the Vengance, but everything else you say tallies with what Brian told me when I wanted dark ribs for my forthcoming Samurai.
  4. Ask and ye shall receive . You know how much he likes Sydney then?
  5. Since I've been in the tunnel, my suit needs some patches .
  6. Started at age 25, now 27. 350 jumps in my first 18 months, and looking at having about 450 on my two-year anniversary. It's been a quiet few months on the jumping front.
  7. Squeak can't type. AUD $25 to 13k5 (Picton is 500ft ASL). AUD $50 registration before December 1st gets you in to the party, plus it gets you free beer every night for the duration of the week-long boogie. You can't call that expensive in Australia
  8. I don't think so. People without a lot of faith in their own ability to handle things don't tend to jump out of airplanes.
  9. Insure the rig. I've heard of too many rigs getting damaged or lost in transit. Many travel insurance companies will allow you to pay a little extra for increased baggage cover. The Australian Parachute Federation offer rig insurance, though I don't know if you need to be a member to avail of it.
  10. I write software, help sell it, and cajole those around me into doing the same. Hey, it pays for jump tickets.
  11. ...followed by "The Show Must Go On", and closing with "We are the Champions". Damn cool video .

    A Little Press

It's worth pointing out that this is a Reuters wire story and so is likely to be widely carried across various media outlets.
  13. Is your spelling correct? I can't find any mention of the plane, the aircraft company, or the engine on the web.
  14. Nope. The horizontal stabiliser is completely different.
  15. That doesn't look much like a Porter to me - different nose, different struts, appears to have fabric-covered wings, etc.
  16. You flew from Sydney to LAX? Oh, and the billvon's house thread was very amusing. I didn't know you were that good a writer. Colour me impressed.
  17. How about if I mention them? I know I can name at least one .
  18. I'm flying from Sydney to LAX on Saturday, then tunnel & jumping at Perris with Pat McGowan on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
  19. Not that I'd call what I do swooping, but I wear Adidas Goodyear driving shoes. They come up over the ankle for extra protection. They look like the attached, but without the silly white cross-stitching. Unfortunately, lots of creepering has messed up the toes. Ah well.
  20. There's a huge amount of second-hand gear in skydiving. Many (most?) people's first set of gear is bought used. In my relatively short time in the sport, I've never heard of a service issue attributed to the equipment not having been bought new.
  21. Ditto. But then I'm not sure that either of us have a statistically significant number of jumps.
  22. PADI: Paperwork and Diving Inbetween. I've about 20 scubadives. 'Tis nice, but doesn't really compare to skydiving for me. Anyone want to buy a Suunto Stinger? Only dived twice!

Not unless you give great head. And gargle . Work on persuading the 'rents instead.
