Not quite the same, but so you know: in the dropzone.com forums you can get an email when a new post is made to a specific thread. When looking at the thread, click on 'Watch Thread' in the top right. You'll then get emailed when a thread is added to.

Why haven't you gotten your B license?
bob.dino replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Depending on the DZ, they might require you to join USPA before jumping. I really doubt it. -
It's a HTML & Javascript issue, not a Java/C++ issue.
-
If you did it on a normal Skyhook-equipped sport rig, you'd probably die. Remember, those reserves were packed slider-off, a configuration that would kill you if used at terminal.

Yeah, well if HH gave me direct access to the database (note: not likely for many good reasons), I'd get you the info in a jiffy. Unfortunately, either his indexes are out of date, or there's a couple of bugs hiding in the Search algorithms.
-
Unless it's recently changed, the Search picks up posts that are in the Recycle Bin. You just can't open 'em.

The search is broken. For example, it doesn't find the post she deleted a couple of hours ago...

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
bob.dino replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One. Op Regs = APF, and has nothing to do with the USPA. By "DZ money politics" do you mean that the DZO was going to lose money by starting up the plane? Quite possible. Starting up a turbine just to do one load does seem to be an expensive proposition. -
I'd love to know what percentage of the threads she's started she's deleted. The search function isn't being all that helpful.

There is interest; I just missed your post.

The Alera has a 32 speed internal burner, so if you're using CD-Rs, you can write a max of 4.69MB/sec.
-
You didn't drive from Darwin to Sydney, did you? That's 4000km!
-
Heh. Bet that team feel damn good though .
-
If you want to know more about how reserves work, grab one of the packers/riggers at the DZ and ask... preferably later in the afternoon once the work is pretty much over.

A huge amount of study has been done on the relationship between BAC and driving ability. Here's a handy graph, and here's a google search with enough info to keep you going for several weeks.

Does your Dropzone have wind holds?
bob.dino replied to valcore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep, we do have wind holds, and we occasionally call a full plane down. Not sure at what speed this occurs, but for reference, the max speeds allowed by the Op Regs are: 5.2.7. Descents shall not be made when the wind speed exceeds the following limits or any lower limit determined by the DZSO: (a) Student parachutists ………………………………………….. 15 knots (b) Parachutists holding a Certificate “A” or “B” …………...…… 20 knots (c) Parachutists other than students and not using ramair main and reserve parachutes ………………………………. 20 knots (d) Parachutists holding at least a Certificate “C” and using ram air main and reserve parachutes ………………………….. 25 knots (see also 5.7.10.A and 5.7.10.B, display descents and 5.5.2, night descents.) Wind speed should be measured at a height of 30 feet above the DZ. If measured at eye level, add 25% to the reading. Wind speed should be below the above limits for at least 10 minutes before commencing or resuming operations. For reference: Certificate C requires at least 100 jumps. -
Because, not being an American, it's not really a sport I give a damn about.

That search is only available to Premier Members, which neither of the two folks above appear to be.

In a day from Gold Coast, you can reach a few DZs. The two I'm familiar with are Toogoolawah and Byron Bay. Toogoolawah has a great atmosphere and nice facilities. They operate a couple of Caravans. Byron Bay runs a Caravan & Cessna of some sort... edit: July is winter, not summer.

A guy at my DZ did his first tandem on his 49th birthday. He's now got over 1000 jumps and is an accomplished instructor. Go for it

Skydiving for health and fitness?

Ditto. Except the 'high level' bit . -
shitty remarks regarding US Servicemen

The Spanish voted out the conservatives for a number of reasons. The ones pertinent to this discussion are: The decision to back the invasion of Iraq was not supported by a majority of the populace. When a government does things that are against the wishes of the people, they can get voted out of office. That's how a democracy works. The conservative government lied to the people of Spain, blaming Eta and suppressing evidence that the bombing was Al'Quaida-related. This came to light just before the election and the resulting wave of anger sealed the fate of the conservatives. So, in short, it was the conservative government's handling of the situation, and not a rolling over in submission that won the socialist government the election.
