Everyone in Australia who holds an A licence has stalled their canopy. I think you're overestimating the danger of stalling a large lightly-loaded square canopy.
-
Jesus dude. You're in New Zealand, where the bloody canopies are designed and made, and you're telling me you can't find a decent dealer? If that's the case, contact one of Terminal Sports, Parachutes Australia, or Absolute Skygear. All based in NSW, Australia. You'll get your gear faster, and any issues can be resolved more quickly. This place becomes a pain in the arse if people just ignore the rules on what goes where...

I did my first intentional canopy stall at about 15 jumps. To get an A licence in Australia, you need to complete a canopy handling table, which includes static & dynamic stall recovery. If properly briefed, I fail to see the problem. Now's exactly the right time to start learning about the performance envelope of the canopy. Up high, of course.

Two days after arriving in NYC in 1998, walking down the street I saw a huge ad in the window of a bank branch: "Contribute to your IRA!" Whoa. I knew the IRA got most of its funding from Irish-Americans with rose-tinted glasses, but I didn't realise they'd be so blatant!

I'm guessing that you've been around long enough to know that Gear & Rigging isn't for advertising, even if it is a Wanted ad.

It's pretty trivial to make either the 12 or the 0 straight up. Take the altimeter out of the metal case/strap, and put it back in at the angle you want.

Who is that on the BPA Mag cover?
bob.dino replied to gemini's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Indeed! But I do believe there was a reserve ride Stump...yep sorry I didn't see post 3 as I was posting Methinks Bill may have to change this statement. Did the jumper attempt to deploy the main, or did she just clear the cable & go to the reserve? -
I think this is appropriate here.

if you want to see what abuse is check out what the enemy does to anyone captured or wounded and caught. most of the so called abuse is nearly fraternity pranks by comparison. So? What's that got to do with it? -

Speaking as an Irishman, the cover-up of Bloody Sunday was directly responsible for the radicalisation of much of the Catholic population of Northern Ireland, and led pretty directly to 30 years of war and over 3000 deaths. Cover ups help no-one. -
Yes. Read the Pro-Track manual.

Fly to Survive, Femur is Not a Verb DVD, poster
bob.dino replied to peek's topic in Safety and Training
I think it's rather clever. "Femur is not a verb" is a hell of a lot more succinct, catchy, and memorable than "Please don't fly your canopy into the ground and break your femur." -
Photoshop is a wonderful program .

When you said island, here I was thinking you were living on some tropical island where the sun was out all the time. Then I looked at your profile and it said, UK. For the record, that's not an island. That's the UK. The UK is a little bigger than 9x5 miles. He lives on Jersey, in the Channel Islands.

That's 'cause many of us reading don't feel we have the experience to offer advice on this topic.

You can't pretend it didn't happen. -
You're gonna get very frustrated dealing with companies in skydiving. Or you'll chill out. One or the other.
-
Google knows.
-
Here's the deal: this is skydiving. Very little ever arrives exactly when it's supposed to. Chill.

I lived in Mile End for three years, from 2000-2003. There's not a huge amount of accomodation in the area, but Livepool St is two stops away on the Central Line, and there's a load of business hotels near there. Make absolutely certain you go to the Palm Tree in Mile End park. On a Sunday night they have cool jazz in this gold-wallpapered, jazz-photo-decked room full of locals. Starts at about 10pm. There's also an indoor climbing centre in the park, about 50m from the pub.

RWS are just redistributing Paul's thesis. Credit where credit is due, please -
Some random thoughts: While you're new (under 3-400 jumps?) in the sport, you need to jump regularly, to keep reinforcing all the new info you're attempting to put into practice. When you're trying to improve, you need to jump in concentrated blocks. 3 jumps a day every weekend will be less effective than a 12-jumps-a-day-one-week training camp in getting your 4-way team to the Nationals. So, if you've been around since the year dot and don't want to get significantly better, you don't have to jump very often. If you're new and want to be a kick-arse skydiver, you need to jump hard, often. Does this make sense?

would you fly video in CO just for a cool pond to train at?

Not to mind the several thousand dollars worth of expensive non-waterproof camera-gear on your head.
