Sunday afternoon, June 24th. 55 degrees and raining here in Vancouver, Washington......shit! Taking the kids to St Louis Tuesday for a weeks vacation, gonna bring my rig and maybe experience jumping in the summer :)

Hey Skreamer, welcome back, was about to send out a search party for you! It's pretty scary watching someone go low isn't it and not a damn thing you can do either. I.E. that bonehead a few months ago that went past me opening at 3K he got smaller and smaller until his reserve fired at maybe 800 feet. Didn't pull anything. The DZO is going to let him keep jumping but he has to start over completely 1st jump course etc and this clown had 45 jumps when he almost went in! Anyway, welcome back. BTW, where ya been? Mike

hey, there's lots of links on the static line vs AFF around here already. I think Marcs question had to do with a better freefall. Marc, when I got into freefall progression in the STATIC LINE training I was taking, didn't have much of a problem with spinning, but had a hell of a lot of "chipping". I found that by just relaxing and keeping your eyes on a point of reference on the horizon, it all got good real fast. Give it a try and see if it works for you too. Hey Babyhead! Lighten up! That is simply a takoff on the "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" slogan. Actually, had the only police will have guns bumper sticker on my 60 Ford Falcon way back in 1970. Found it attracted the cops to pull me over all the time :)Promptly got rid of it!

I once forgot to turn my ASTRA off and yep, the battery went dead. Good news was it was time for a reserve repack when that happened! So, now, after every jump when I take my goggles, helment off and loosen my leg straps, I also turn off the AAD. It was also 45 bucks for the new battery. And as for this unit being accidentally turned off on the ride up, don't think so, it's kinda hard to turn on and off intentionally sometimes :)

Yes, you are correct in that the Soviets had a great deal to do with bringing Germany down at the END of the war. However, if the US government had sat on its ass and did nothing, i.e. "neutral", Hitler's troops would have taken out Great Britain and would not have had to fight on several fronts and would have more than likely have defeated the Soviets also. My point is I am just tired of other countries and their citizens ragging on the US and OUR problems. And yes, everyone has the right to express their opinions, even Frank!

An 8 way team all have an AAD save?!? Was this a first jump team or what?!? That's pretty hard to believe. Bottom line is ALTITUDE AWARENESS I have an Astra and am confident that if I ever get knocked out in FF it will save my ass. However, that is the only situation (incapicated) that I want to rely on ANY AAD. Don't rely on ANY AAD to save your life.

Hey, Frank, have you had a few to many Molsons or LaBatts? You seem like one of those people that think that if the government takes care of me everything will be wonderful, oh joy......fuck! As for us Americans and our gun views, death penalty etc...that's none of your fuckin business. If it wasn't for America, the whole damn world would be saluting the swastika today, think about it. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died in WW2 so people like you can post your opinions on a forum like this. Sorry, just getting a bit tired of people bashing the US. Guess it's time to shut up and jump.

yeah, it can be done and per the FAR's it will be done......lol! the place where I haul jumpers and jump with the old ratty 182 has a 1,700 foot grass strip, guess I'd be shit outta luck on this takeoff :) BTW, what kind of plane was it????
