I usually use one of those cheap throwaway cameras for my jumps!

hello all. I'm just curious here, what is your favorite plane for the ride up? I'm a bit biased I guess since I maintain Cessna 208's (Caravans) for a living. I do like a fast ride up when I'm jumping but prefer the 182 when I'm flying (logging time). Mike

the rig I have now! All from the early to mid 90's. Suits me well tho for now since I stiil do the occassional ass slide landing!

The last Sunday of last years Lost Prairie boogie on the first load of the day, someone swooped through the gate to the pasture, only it was closed! I was about a 100 yards away when this happened and the barb wire where I was tightened up with a loud twang! The poor guy got up raised his arms over his head then he layed down. I left then, he didn't die is all I know about it. I hope that I never see anyone go in. Mike

no, it's not just you! I donb't know what the hell that ad is about either?!? Mike

I find that jumping relieves all the stress I have. Can be stressed on the ride up but as soon as I get out, all is well!

oooppppsssss......didn't see your post Chris! Mine is rather redundant now.....By the way Mike, are you perhaps thinking of magnetos when you mentioned "coils"?!?

Actually, an annual inspection and a 100 hour inspection on US registered aircraft encompass the same "scope and detail"per the FAR's. Dfference is an A&P licensed mechanic can sign off a 100 hour while the annual requires and IA/repair station signoff. I know about these things, been an A&P for 20 years. As for mechanics leaving tools, rags etc. in the A/C, yep, it happens. As does pilots doing "controlled decents into the ground". Nothing is guarenteed in life.

Long time ago when I was young and strong I used to hang glide a lot. One day at Sand Turn up in the Bighorn mountains in Wyoming I was getting ready to launch off the 2,000 foot point. This being one of the highways to Yellowstone Park, there were always tons of whuffos. One asked me how long I had been hang gliding, I replied that this was my first time and had seen it the week before on wide world of sports and thought it looked like fun! His jaw dropped and away I went!

Skreamer, 470 posts! Holy shit!!! You must have a laptop with cellular connection! Sounds like your weather is very similar to the weather in the Pacific Northwest-rain! The winter was fine, lots of dry, cold days. Now that spring is here it's raining every weekend :( You know what they call it after two days of rain out here? Monday!

Hi all. I recently checked out as a jump pilot at the good old local dropzone flying 182's. Anybody have any good advice for me? Noticed at higher altitudes, actually, any altitude, after linging up on the runway, can't see the zone! I do use landmarks on the horizon to stay on that heading but as for as below, what's the best method? Also, have any of you had trouble with the feds as to Private vs. Commercial licenses? Thanks, Mike

Skreamer. Cypress load is for those that have had an AAD save (any make AAD) I know of a local DZ where two new AFF graduates doing a 2 way both had their AAD's fire and save their asses! Altitude awareness people!!!
-
hey Skreamer. George W. Isn't the only person in America that is against this treaty. The US has already entered into to many BS things, i.e. NAFTA, WTO. Time for us (US citizens) to start taking care of ourselves more and the world less. Earth first! We'll log the other planets later....
-
hey grasshopper, that's nothing! I got in 328 jumps, did two annual inspecions on the planes and fucked a dozen women! top that! And that was just Saturday.....
-
Hey Mike. Here in the good ol USA all aircraft components are not "lifed". Very experienced A&P mechanic here. Avionics have no life limitations at all (except batteries). Only reason to change them is they become obsolete or can't economically be repaired. As for Astra vs Cypress, well, they're both pretty darn reliable. I use an Astra and am very happy and secure knowing it will work properly. Shit, some of you people sound like pitchmen from the manufaturers! The bottom line here is there is no guarentee that any of them will work. Boneheads that go on the Cypress load at Lost Prairie amuse me. How about altitude awareness?!?

Hi Sis. I work as an airframe and powerplant mechanic in Portland Oregon. I soloed when I was 16 and got my private license when I was 17. Planned on being a pilot for a living but started getting high to much (hey, everyone did in the early 70's!). Anyway, you can make a living outside of airline flying these days. Once you get your IFR 135 minimums, you can make around 40 grand a year flying freight and such. Actually, I am now 47 and am seriously thinking about getting my comm and inst ratings and pursuing that old dream of being a pilot. Tired of bending wrenches! I checked out at the DZ where I jump and will start hauling jumpers there this weekend (if it doesn't rain to much). Free flying time in that old 182 ratwagon and free jumps to for doing the flying. And if the FAA is watching, naw, that isn't "compensation" LOL!!! Mike

Hey, I missed it the other night? Does anyone know when/if this will repeat?

Lost Prairie is the last 10 (or so) days in July every year. Located 35 miles west of Kalispell, MT. Skydive AZ Twin Otters, Skyvan and a Pilatis? (if it's fixed by now!). Great scenery, great people, great boogie!
-
Nothing like jumping your own rig that you packed huh? I owned my rig for a couple months before I was allowed to jump it. First jump with my rig and first time BOC deployment! All ripcords prior to that. Scared shitless!!! All was well tho. As for my pack jobs....think they're called trash packs....lol!
-
I'm going to try to make Lost Prairie and Quincy this year, will at least make Lost Prairie. I was kinda freaked out at Lost Prairie last year, 500 jumpers, 45 Twin Otter loads and maybe 35 Skyvan loads a day. Prior to that I had only jumped 182's and DHC2's. Got into it real well tho. Imagine a boogie with 5,000 jumpers and tons of planes....Sounds like the place to be!

So, does that mean that you're a member of the say 420 feet MSL club?
-
Hey, that sounds just like my machine! I have to kick it once and awhile to wake it up!

I'm an old fart (47) that likes new music. Matchbox20, Vertical Horizon, Three doors down, etc. Not into classic rock anymore at all after I heard "Free Bird" for the 219,020 time!

I was a chipper for quite some time. Found that looking at the horizon stopped it.
