Not that I mind getting asked that every weekend, everywhere I go. But I'll save some time by answering it one time publicly: An OrFun (Pronounced "Orphan") is simply a jumper who does not have a "Home" Dropzone to speak of. It's also a member of the newest skydiving social club, which was created one hazy night in Tallahassee, Florida, the same way many other great skydiving clubs are created -over a formica table littered with empty 26-oz beer mugs. OrFuns are the proud unwanted, the wretched refuse, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free in the only home we know -the one outside the door. So whether you've been ejected, rejected, relocated or shut out of your original dropzone due to personal conflicts, dropzone politics, geographical distance, an ill-advised game of "Bobbing for Birthmarks" in the hot tub with the DZO's spouse, or any other tragedy beyond your control, you can be an OrFun. (Following a simple and relatively painless [Relative to what? Don't ask.] initiation procedure by an exisiting member of course.) There are only 3 Rules to remember. And since most of us drink. Frequently. They're very simple: 1) OrFuns DON'T CRY. Nor do they whine, bitch, piss and moan, kvetch, complain, "do drama," or sue. Thanks to everybody for being so cool, Mariposa and I both had an even better time than Halloween. I lives to meet new .commers! Although I was a little disappointed that the music wasn't bumpin' in the King Air like I expected. Thanks as always to Los Carbones (Especially Scotty for finally finding out my name . That said, I did have a couple issues with the manifest process. I may be mistaken, but it seems to me that the only way the loads could get backed up that fast by that number of people is if people were allowed to double or triple manifest - which is one thing if you have a fixed number of jumpers sitting in the hangar from 9am on. But if I were rolling in at noon with a pocket full of money after driving all morning, I'd be more than a little pissed to find out I couldn't get on a load until dinner time. Also, I had to refuse the part of the waiver that asked for my credit card number. I understand pre-authorizing so you don't get stiffed. But I'm not comfortable leaving my Visa number just scribbled on a piece of paper somewhere. Especially if I were paying cash in advance for all my jumps.
