Do you want to see video of skydivers burning in?
brits17 replied to Vectracide's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think its absolutely appropriate. There are several things that can be learned through watching instead of simply reading. When I had 10 BASE jumps, I was shown a video of many different jumpers going in. You could never really see blood and guts but it presented many different situations and the events that went wrong. I had heard of several of them, but it didn't really hit me until I actually watched it. I read the fatality list, I was a gung-ho jumper and although I always knew 'it could happen to me' I didn't catch the full impact (seriously no pun intended) until after seeing it for myself. Initially, I learned what I just stated. It made me think twice about the endeavor I am pursuing and if its worth the risk of continuing. Many new jumpers (skydivers included) are so excited that they never really catch all the things that CAN go wrong. I saw wall strikes, skydives gone wrong, impacts with nothing out and canopy malfunctions to name a few. What was the series of events leading up to a fatality? Sometimes it was wind conditions, sometimes it was a different rig configuration, sometimes it was complacency and sometimes it was a packing error. I could hear about these situations all day long, but seeing it helped me personally assess the conditions leading to a death and how to avoid them. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com -

Once or twice... just replying for myself On the pic though, I claim dirt water dirt on that one. If the gates were set up at the beginning of the pond, Kat and I would have both hit em. Its 300 ft. Thanks for all the hot tips on em... I started a couple weekends ago and haven't gone back since. Its a different ball game now, you're right! Yes, of course. All this is in the works, we've been talking about you guys ever since we got back from CO, scheming of ways to get ya'll here I bought those windblades this week that you see in the pics. I set them up as gates so we can practice... and the crowd that was drawn to come play with us was really a lot of fun! I have a feeling this year's going to be a blast

Isn't that a bush question too? Ok, well they're family... I'll rephrase it. Can I smoke your relative, the little bush? _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Thats a pretty close description to how it was w/ just half the can! Then later on with a full can, and stomach, I felt nauseous. I'd say I'd just puke it back up without eating first. You know me though, weakling. Tim: "Will you marry me?" Me: *bleh!* BASE jumper:"We're at the top of the tower!" Me: *bleh!* Edit to add: Now that I've read my post, I think its just a personal problem... its like I hurl at the addictive and good things in life. Too much of a good thing is a good thing with the examples noted above. But I'd venture to say not so with Redline and alcohol (the other things that make me lose my lunch). Wow it feels good to talk about throwing up, I feel better now.

I'd venture to guess there's not many out there. Really, the endeavor of artistic BASE jumping is still in its early stages/years so there's not many gym coaches running across BASE jumpers left and right. When I went back to some old coaches and gyms, they were very surprised to hear a request for BASE specific training. Its newer to them than it is to us. The main thing that you should probably relay to your coach is figuring out technique to stop the aerial maneuver belly to earth. This is probably best practiced on the trampoline. The pit can be used for learning the actual maneuver. Houston Gymnastics Academy is where I know some old coaches and Ted and I hooked up with a new one. Hope this helps. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

I have 2 Vertigo containers, a warlock and wizard. I've noticed they have smaller yokes and an overall narrower container tray versus most other manufacturers. I'm 5'2, but I'm sure they'd fit someone smaller just fine, as far as shoulder width goes. And no, I wouldn't blame your packing. Its simply the way your harness was made. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

I'm kinda in the same boat as grundleson. I think it was jump #34 or something stupid like that. But I agree that the trampoline and pit action is the best way to practice. The aerial aspect is mostly a matter of knowing your orientation in dead air. The gymnastic element is half the battle. The problem with aerials so early on is the whole BASE jumping factor. Getting caught up in a maneuver or something is like operation overload. The comfort of dead air, maintaining belly to earth, pull altitude and delay time are the obvious most important things. Aerials cannot interfere with any of these elements. If they are, then its too soon, or its not the right place/time. There's some objects where it's ok to throw a flip (like Perrine, or a nice low antenna ). Some, I am not ready for. Ok thats about all. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com

Yeah its kinda a madhouse right now trying to get out of town. Any trip thats usually 2-3 hours (ie: San Antonio) is now an estimated 14. Dallas (north) isn't any better either. All the evacuees from Galveston and such are coming through Houston. This one looks like its going to be a doozey _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
