What I was saying was that with a little more time in the sport one might realize that skydiving is NOT one big happy family and not try to paint a pretty prozac picture of parachuting (). On rec. those that give it, generally can take it - they don't appear to be trying to win any popularity contests. I feel exactly the same way I do about people who post on rec. slagging dz.com off - it is childish and cowardly. Both places have their respective merits - if you don't like either then don't frequent it. But running to one group to broadcast that you don't like the other group seems rather lame to me. I prefer dz.com, but this doesn't mean I feel a need to slag off rec. Will

I suspect most of the people on rec. have been in the sport a little longer than you. If you felt so strongly about it, why didn't you post your little whinge on rec.?

That is something I really don't understand. Here in the UK petrol is taxed so heavily that the thought of owning a 1.4l diesel is actually quite appealing. Plus the added incentive of paying less road tax (and insurance!). But I don't really see anything changing as long as you have a quasi-Texan who is in the pockets of the oil barons in charge. They have the right to drive SUVs goddammit (and are willing to bomb a whole lot of people to defend that right). Will

Most of them were in Sweden (35 with Adrian Nicholas) and then got some more with Tim Carter in the UK when I got back. Of my last 250 skydives probably about 50 were coach jumps, and the only thing I proved is that I am not a natural. Still, I've got my camera-suit coming and next year I'll be getting my wing-suit, so its not all bad!

I did about 40 something coach jumps in July and August (biggest mistake was doing 14 in one day...), got very disillusioned after that because my head down still sucked. Took a 7 week break from jumping (lack of money, lack of main and partly couldn't give a shit anymore). Went out yesterday, did two solos and somehow it just clicked for me!

I know a skydiver with 12 000 jumps who still chooses to jump with one. And he has cutaway both with and without RSL (camera) quite a few times, so he is making an informed decision. Perhaps you know something he doesn't?

A local dominee's sons were really naughty shits (as all dominees/preachers kids are). Their idea of fun was they'd each climb a tree with their pellet guns and then shoot each other until one fell out. I grew up in Oudtshoorn, forget TV, even our rainbows were black and white! I can remember being bare-foot almost my entire childhood (except sandals for school and shoes for church). I can also remember that we often used to make our own toys (often involving R4 rounds, swimming pool chlorine and other 'stuff' - man we couldda taught Saddam a thing or two about making weapons...)
