Maybe even more important than breathing during the dive is breathing just before the dive. If you are tensed up and not breathing when you leave the plane you might stiffen up on the exit. A tip I got given was to use the exit count : Ready, Set (breathe in) Go (breathe out smoothly as you leave the plane). Will

Sit in a chair with your legs spread (same as in a sit). Now stand up using just your legs (ie don't grab hold of anything with your hands to help you balance). When your bum has just cleared the seat you will need 'strong legs' to balance. It is the same 'strong legs' that will keep you stable head up. (obviously symmetry is also important). Hope this tip that was given to me a while back helps! (plus you can practice it anytime) Will

Some issues with the Vortex II that have surfaced here in the UK : * Check that the reserve hard housing has a brass knurl at the end. A couple of Vortex's housings have been found at repack time to be missing these knurls and have rough sawn off edges. This was discussed a recent BPA riggers meetings (I read about it in the meeting minutes) * A friend of mine has a Vortex II (which he is currently trying to sell). When he got the reserve repacked it was noticed that the grommet that the loop on the 3-ring system goes through had a rough edge and had been wearing through the loop. (this is the loop that your cutaway cable goes through) If he had done maybe 30 more jumps before it was noticed.... Vortexes are cheap - you get what you pay for. Will

Hmmm, free vibrators and now this Co-incidence? I think not....

Don't know if the link to Ted Strong's BASE tandem has been posted before, but it did rock my jaw. Part that really amazed me was that they did it in 1984 before the public could even do tandems!!! Being a tandem passenger on a BASE jump must be a serious head-fuck... Will

What are pros and cons of purchasing new rigs vs. used rigs?
skreamer replied to NicoNYC's topic in Gear and Rigging
I paid for a full inspection by a master rigger. The rig was in good condition (had less then 500 jumps on it). It wasn't the most comfortable or fashionable but it was airworthy and it served its purpose as a first rig. Will -
Apparently they stopped selling vibrators in Florida - too many women getting their teeth chipped...

What are pros and cons of purchasing new rigs vs. used rigs?
skreamer replied to NicoNYC's topic in Gear and Rigging
Not true. My beer rig was a Vector 1 with a Cruiselite '220 and a Swift reserve. The only thing I bought new was a Cypres. I got that rig for under $1 000 and found it in the classifieds right here on dz.com. Keep your eyes peeled and be patient, make sure you buy the rig that is right for you now. Will -
Also SL graduates are generally a lot more comfortable exiting the plane at lower altitudes (probably a distinct advantage in the event of an aircraft emergency). By the time a SL student graduates they would also have spent a lot of time on the ground at the DZ listening and learning. An AFF student with money can graduate in just a couple of weekends. Will

I'm famous for making Adult Cinematography (and now some chicks want me banned from their DZ).

Not a rectal cranial inversion then?

Aaah, ok, so saying that the majority of rec regulars seem to have a big head up a small ass is considered "pointing out a drawback"? My bad.
-
You remember those essays you wrote? I first learnt about those by lurking rec. Advanced searches can still bring up loads of useful info. My only real problem with rec. is the fact that I can only access it via deja at work - takes too long to update. Using OE at home it is no problem blocking the people who keep on grinding the same axe. Will

Nothing lame about that, you have a family to provide for. Would you be happier if you were single and living and working on a DZ? Its a nice pipe-dream, but apart from the burnout factor, I want more from life. Unfortunately that means doing a job I don't always like. Will PS I bet at 3AM when you are changing nappies the single DZ life seems MIGHTY tempting...
-
The one that puts the most $$$ in your wallet? Me personally, I'd take the stressed better paying job - makes you enjoy the weekends more (and working in snowboarding, skydiving etc. might spoil it)

Any port in a storm sailor....

Your wife was wearing a woolly outfit? I thought that was her birthday suit!!! Will PS don't try and change the subject to my new canopy, just sign the 'Get Well soon' card - I'll be needing it shortly...

Actually sometimes I'm not sure Remi's wife is either...
-
Well, on the one hand if it wasn't for dz.com I'd never have met Remi , but on the other hand if it wasn't for dz.com I'd never have met his wife either....
-
You mean right before the spanking? Apparently I'd been a bad boy and needed to be punished...
-
Yeah, I always thought you were a closet case...

Youre' just jealous because its your WIFE who keeps inviting me round (funny how you're never around when I come over either...)
