  2. Wait, wait, wait.....one sec.....Bush errs on the side of life....uhmmmm.....the king of executions?.....Bush should be impeached and imprisoned as a criminal.....He went after HS for personal reasons. Even though Saddam is no doubt a bad person, what Bush did puts him in the same category as such. Saddam was contained and not going anywhere. GBs doomday speeches of a nuclear holocaust should be reason enough to impeach him. For Bush to rally the uninformed to go do his dirty work he should be ashamed. I seriously doubt if he tried to rally his own family members to signup. Yet this thug has no problem sending someone elses family member. America is in far greater damger of North Korea and Iran. Not to mention Osma Bin Laden and his cohorts. But the greatest danger of them all is Bush and his gang members. He should be IMPEACHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Culture of life? Err on the side of life? BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUSH IS A MURDERING THUG AND THE EPICENTER OF EVIL!!!!!!!! 5. ***I recall a recent train crash that killed a fair number of people; the driver was found to be high. If you are speaking of the Amtrak collision that occured on the N.E. corridor some years back on Superbowl sunday, I know two of the engineers that were on board the engine that ran the red and caused the collision. No one was smoking anything onboard. They were watching the game as they rolled up the line. They passed an intermediate that warned they were to approach at a restricted speed and to prepare to stop short of the signal. They ran the red onto the single from the doubleline not because of marijuana, but because they were busy watching a T.V. that one of them brought onboard for the day. According to my friend, Amtrak did not want to use that for a reason that a collision occurred. Everyone was pissed tested and most of them came back positve. They were tested several days after the collision. Amtrak felt that a more sinister reason was needed to explain what happened and that engineers watching T.V. and not the rails wouldn't cut it with the Feds, so marijuana became the culprit. 6. That growth out of the side of your face, you should have that looked at by a doctor. It doesn't look good at all. DISCLAIMER: My medical opinion means nothing as I am not a real doctor. An estimated 3 million individuals in the United States have serious drug problems. Several studies have reported an undercount of the number of deaths attributed to drugs by vital statistics; however, improved medical treatments have reduced mortality from many diseases associated with illicit drug use. In keeping with the report by McGinnis and Foege, we included deaths caused indirectly by illicit drug use in this category. 13. TELLING THE TRUTH IS A REVOLUTIONARY ACT by Michael Krawitz, (Source:Collegiate Times) Regional News 25 Mar 2005 Virginia ------- Dear Reader, This article contains some very important internet links so you may want to keep it as a reference. When I first started writing a recurrent column for the CT I figured on writing a few articles to get my readers caught up on current drug war research and then I would be on to more easy topics like perhaps the deepest possible sociological lessons to be learned from the movie Matrix. I am a computer engineering student after all. J Unfortunately given the feedback I have received there is a greater deficit of understanding than I expected so this column is dedicated to getting a few basic facts straight. First, marijuana is a Mexican girls name used by William Randolph Hearst and Harry Anslinger to enable them to turn innocent Mexican Hemp into the killer "marihuana". The given Latin name for the plant in question is Cannabis Sativa. The plant grown here is called Cannabis Americana by science and those in the know. Read more about William Randolph Hearst and Harry Anslinger at the award winning website of the Shaffer Library of drug policy at: http://www.druglibrary.org/ Cannabis Hemp came here with the first settlers. The founding fathers enacted laws requiring its cultivation. Medical use of Cannabis came to the US from India by way of UK in about 1850 and by 1900 every major pharmaceutical house manufactured Cannabis products for pain etc. Read the original full Pharmacopoeia entry for Cannabis here: http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/eclectic/usdisp/cannabis.html Cannabis was still legally prescribable in the United States until 1970 after Timothy Leary won a case in the Supreme Court showing the federal marihuana laws unconstitutional. When the US drugczar asked the Institute of Medicine if pot had a gateway effect, had medical value or hurt kids they replied in several hundred pages No, Yes and NO!! Read the full Institute of Medicine report on medical marihuana here: Note: Don't just read the executive summary and think you know what the report says because that didn't work for the drug czar either. http://books.nap.edu/html/marimed/ Alcohol prohibition and marihuana prohibition aren't the same thing! Marihuana prohibition is worse! Not only is marijuana, for so called recreational use, prohibited thereby earning the name "prohibition" medicinal drinking of alcohol under doctors orders was made possible by a special certificate given out by the US treasury department, the same dep't that outlawed marihuana, by not allowing prescription access to Cannabis since 1970 the US government has been heading out into the snow covered valley of shame. There are tens of thousands of US citizens using Cannabis under doctor's orders right now and those patients either have to be farmers and grow their own or venture into the DEA's creation, the black market. The DEA recently admitted they created the black market in a medical marijuana case that is in the Supreme Court right now being considered. Read more about the current Supreme Court medical marihuana case here: http://angeljustice.org/ Most people support Cannabis medical use. Most people support not arresting marijuana users. Most people are against the so-called recreational use of marihuana. Read the current statistics I am basing this statement on by visiting The Virginia Tech Center For Survey Research here: http://www.csr.vt.edu/qol/index.html There is a chapter of The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana laws at Virginia Tech. They have small weekly meetings and big annual gatherings and pass out literally tons of information. Visit VPI&SU's NORML chapter here: http://www.norml.org.vt.edu/ This is one of the key documents distributed by NORML, ask at norml@vt.edu and they will give you a hard copy free, I have one and it's pretty cool for winning arguments since it is full of US government facts the US government is spending billions [yes billions] of dollars to cover up. 14. I fully respect your opinion, yet I see it basically that the Federal Government fear Islamic Rule and off shoot reigns, such as SH, much like they feared communism. It is ideology vs the opposite. In all the known history of the humanrace had there ever been a space of pure peace and goodwill towards each other the world over? No, never. I am sure that before written history, too, has there never been a real peace. Humans are destine to kill one another for one reason or another. That is how it has always been and will always be. Someone who does not share the same view we naturally feel some animosity and suspect the worst. I believe that it is instinctual for humans to feel this way as a protection device. This makes us no differant than an alley cat peering out from the darkness ready to pounce. If given a chance. Given the culture of our society, it makes it real difficult to trust a stranger. Now, that is just sad. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  15. Actually you cannot say "Brontosaurus Steak" as rumour has it MacDonalds has bought all marketing rights and will be test marketing "MacBronto Burgers" sometime in the near future. They also are hard at work developing a line of real cool toys to use as a tool geared to attract the hungry masses. 16. At no time was the U.S. ever in danger of an attack by SH. For as crazy as he may appear, he knew far to better than to all out mess with the Federal Government. Given a bit more time is reign would had eventually collapsed and in fighting amongst his most loyal would had sealed it. Now imagine what the world would be like had the U.S. had invaded Russia during the cold war. A pre-empted attack on communism would not had brought the Berlin wall down any faster. It would had only foster more hatred towards the U.S.. Much like the invasion into Iraq. But then it is much easier to attack a country that has no real weapon other than a handful of loyalist. 18. I consider myself a citizen of the planet and not exactly loyal to anyone but my own kind. I WOULD NOT take a bullet for the president of the U.S. or for any country for that matter. I would take a bullet for any member of my family but not for a government that is based on paranoia and suspicion of the highest order of it's own people. We are asked basically to spy on our neighbors. We are constantly told that evil is towering over us and doom is only one bomb away. Everywhere you turn your face is being recorded and viewed. Elected officials seek to remove more rights to privacy in the name of your protection. This country has wrapped itself so tight in a blanket of false security that just sneezing the wrong way can lead to an investigation. Now, I love my country, yet I am not in favor of a government that preaches paranoia and encourage it's people to spy upon one another. If I were ever to leave, I am not sure where I would go, having travelled the world. Of all places I have been I was always happy to return here. For all its wrongs I will always call it home for it is familiar and defend my piece of it. But, I will not go broad to an unfamiliar land that has not threaten me. 20. Amputee Sues Over Confiscated Scooter By The Associated Press Source: Associated Press Portland, Ore. -- Vicki Marie Tyler, a diabetic amputee with a medical marijuana card, says she was asleep on her couch when 13 police officers raided her North Portland home looking for drugs. Though officers found less than an ounce of marijuana during the 2003 raid, they seized her electric scooter on the grounds in was bought with drug money. A jury last year acquitted Tyler of drug-dealing charges. Now Tyler is trying to make it 2-for-2 in the courts, filing a federal lawsuit against the Portland Police Bureau because it kept her scooter for more than three months — until a Multnomah County judge ordered the bureau to give it back. The police seized her scooter, among other pieces of property, even though the warrant did not list any property eligible for seizure, said David D. Park, Tyler’s attorney. The police can seize property thought to be bought with drug profits, such as guns and expensive stereo equipment. But Park said the police had no reason to believe that Tyler, an arthritic diabetic with kidney failure who uses a prosthetic leg, used drug profits to buy a scooter that requires a prescription from a physician. The suit seeks $15,000 for emotional pain and suffering. The suit also seeks punitive damages, claiming the police either maliciously sought to punish her or recklessly deprived her of her right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure. The Portland city attorney’s office had not received a copy of the suit Wednesday. A Portland police spokesman declined to comment to The Oregonian. The lawsuit names 13 Portland police officers, including former Officer Jason H. Sery, who shot and killed an unarmed motorist named James Jahar Perez last year. Sery was cleared of criminal wrongdoing by a grand jury. 23. The police are not there to protect the average citizen. If they were protecting the population then crimes such as rape, murder, abductions and so on would not occure. The police come in to play after the fact, not before. Their role is to enforce laws set by a legisaltive body. Having family members in law enforcement I hear that everyone is a suspect. The majority protects themselves and those of their kind. Police are needed, there is no argument there. But do they really protect? No is my opinion. I have had a truck stolen, a house broke into, I have been shot, robbed at knife point and a few other things. Where were the police to protect? Nowhere near that was for sure. In most cases they only showed, and not so fast, after the fact. In others why even call as they will do very little in way of help after the fact. All in all I can protect myself just fine. If treaded upon I can deal with it without the police. I do have one exception and he is Detective Fellows of the San Diego PD. He brought back my Les Paul 55 after she was taken when my house was broke into. This was after the fact. Yet, after six months I gave up hope of ever seeing my guitar when the phone ranged. Detective Fellows stayed on this one little case and found my baby hanging in a pawn shop. Without his work my girl would had been sold and never seen again. The police do things behind the scene that most never see or even realize. Hats off to the good ones who really do make a differance. 24. MEDICAL MARIJUANA IS NO DOPEY MATTER by Jennifer MacDonald, Staff Writer, (Source:Courier) Regional News 17 Mar 2005 California ------- Myasthenia gravis, a rare neurological disorder that affects the muscles causing loss of strength with each use of that muscle, is one of many illnesses for which marijuana is prescribed. The naturally growing plant can aid in reducing side effects like loss of appetite and stomach cramps caused by medication taken to alleviate symptoms of the disease. In California someone suffering from myasthenia gravis or a number of other illnesses can receive a prescription from a doctor allowing legal marijuana use at least under state law. But the patient can't wander down to Rite Aid to fill this prescription. And most places set up to provide marijuana to medical users called "Cannabis Clubs," are raided by narcotics agents. This prevents medical users from having a reliable source for the medicine and they are left to buy the beneficial herb off the streets. The legalization of marijuana for medical use on the state level is a step in the right direction toward a system where AIDS, cancer and glaucoma patients could obtain the medicine in an organized, legal and safe way. But the federal government not only continues to oppose legalization for medical use, they refuse to declassify marijuana as a Schedule I substance: illegal and having no medical benefits. Marijuana was technically still legal for doctors to prescribe until the Uniform Controlled Substances Act of 1970 placed it in the same class as heroin. No medical benefits? Then why do cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy praise the drug, saying it reduces nausea and increases their appetite? Why do multiple sclerosis patients say it relives muscle spasms? Research has proven its ability to protect brain cells from toxic levels of chemicals that occur during a stroke. For those who suffer from glaucoma, marijuana reduces pressure on the ocular nerve resulting in less damage to the nerve so vision is not lost. With federal approval, research could be further explored to tap into the potential medical benefits of the primary components of marijuana, tetrahydocannabinol ( THC ) and cannabinol. But the federal government is too stubborn to legalize marijuana. In 1992 the federal compassionate use program, which still provides "joints" to a handful of seriously ill patients, was discontinued because it was said to undercut the war on drugs. The population is supposedly saved from marijuana at the expense of the sick and potentially sick. Over the years, the government has called marijuana a "gateway drug" to heroin, the drug of choice for lazy potheads, and the cause of teenage psychosis. Since medical marijuana remains banned in the United States, it seems the plant's role as a potentially helpful medicine has been overshadowed by unfounded rumors of its dark side. So where did the negative association with marijuana come from? To understand, one must understand the herb's history that dates back to 1 A.D. where it is identified in a Chinese pharmaceutical book as a cure for over 100 ailments. Over the centuries, marijuana was used all over the world as both a medicine and a recreational drug. In the United States during the early 1900s, cocaine and opium were available in over-the-counter elixirs. The population quickly became addicted to these narcotics, prompting a series of laws that eventually banned these drugs. But marijuana was left untouched until the 1930s when Harry J. Anslinger, head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, launched a campaign against the drug that was stereotypically used by jazz musicians and Mexican immigrants. This is where marijuana gained its reputation as an evil drug that drives its user to harder drugs or insanity. Fearful, states quickly prohibited the non-medical use of the drug. But the federal government wasn't satisfied so it enacted the Marihuana Tax Act that imposed so high a tax on importation that doctors stopped prescribing the drug. The government's control of marijuana has been sneaky and unfair. For thousands of years the sick used marijuana as medicine. Now we have many other drugs that have been developed, but current research has also shown new ways marijuana can help sick people. Until the federal government is willing to listen to the patients, doctors, researchers and historians who support the legalization of medical marijuana, its use by the sick for healing will remain a criminal act and its values will be left untapped.
