A restaurant in Satellite Beach did lose a lot of business. Granted, it's case was special however. The business was a high-class restaurant and cigar lounge. A large portion of its clientele were executives having informal meetings/dinners because they a top-class dinner and a quality cigar worked to offer much to the atmosphere. When they banned smoking in restaurants, they continued allowing hoping that they could cover the fines with the extra business. They almost went bankrupt. Needless to say, they ended up having to close the cigar lounge. In Florida, at least, smoking is still allowed in strict bars (where food is not served) or with a special smoking license (ie: for cigar lounges). I do believe a restaurant license and a smoking license are mutually exclusive. This ad space for sale.

I was thinking of a way to get around the criminal element ... and actually, I think Costa Rica has pulled it off, but there is a downside. If I remember correctly, prostitution is legal, but pimping is not. The girls have to work independently but they also have to carry a registration and a health card. The downisde, however, is that it puts hookers everywhere. Besides the surfing and the nature visitors, Costa Rica also has a massive sex tourism business. Any touristy bar (Hotel del Ray, Beatle Bar, etc) will be jam packed with hookers, but they work independently and of their own free will. I had been talking to one who said she did this once a month to help pay for her rent. (Granted, I don't know if that's true or not.) However, overall, with their system, it took out most of the negative side effects of strict legalization... This ad space for sale. -
What is your opinion on smoking bans for places like cigar bars. There are a few places I go to to buy, smoke some good cigars, enjoy a nice scotch and sit on the most comfortable leather couch ever. I would hate to see it get banned there to. They shouldn't allow smoking. Smoking is bad for you. What if I want to go in there because I like the atmosphere, but I don't want to be exposed to smoke? You shouldn't be allowed to smoke anywhere except in a little airtight box. Think of the children! This ad space for sale.

This is absolutely great news. Now, if only they would ban cursing as well. I don't like having my wee little ears exposed to the degeneracy of cursers when I want to go have a drink at the local bar. If they would only make it illegal to curse, I could go out again. This ad space for sale.

I think it should be legalized and regulated. Remove the organized crime element from the business. There will always still be a dark underbelly to the operation. It will never be a truly victimless crime.. If you look at the history of Amsterdam's Red Light District, many of those girls are not there willingly. Many are Russian/Eastern European who came in with high hopes, got stuck into debt, and are "owned" by their debtors. This also happens in the States, but not quite as blatantly. Regardless, since their will always be a market for it: personally, I think the government should legalize, regulate, and tax. This ad space for sale. -
