Good god, I had no idea where this would lead! Chill out guys, as long as you're not on f'in atkins, it's all cool. Or any other fad diet, for that matter. Forget about being right for a minute and contribute to the chill environment around the bonfire. Or drag your argumentative ass back to asshole's, I mean speaker's corner. Everything in moderation. Nothing but skydiving in excess. Okay, and beer. But not too much, or you'll be 1000 lbs and need to be surgically extracted from your couch. Used to be, when I was in a LTR and had someone to cook for who was vegetarian. It's not all that hard, you just have to be creative. But I like chicken too much, and that first burger in 1.5 years tasted SO good. I had already done several gear checks prior to having to rush... it's just I was watching a big-way and it was during that time (~20 min) that my helmet/altimeter went screwy. So yesterday I was rushing for a call, and noticed my altimeter was off by 2000 ft. Zeroed it and got on the plane. Then in freefall I realized the extra length of my helmet strap wasn't in it's holder and was slapping me in the face. When I thought about it, I realized my gear had been moved also, when I left it me helmet was hanging OVER my rig, and when I picked it up my helmet strap was UNDER my rig. Plus, I checked my altimeter and it took 4 turns to get it off by 2000 ft. And my helmet strap needed to be purposely removed from the holder, I couldn't get it to just shake loose. Which makes me suspect someone was messing with my gear. I want to chalk it up to "play a prank on the newbie, see if he notices his gear issues", but this kinda scares me. Especially after that British guy's cut risers. Guys, don't mess with other people's shit. Not cool at all. If I hadn't caught the alitmeter issue I could have been in deep doo doo. Granted, the altimeter would have read 2000 ft lower than I actually was, but this is still not funny. I'm wondering if I pissed someone off... anyone see someone messing with gear on the rig hangers at SDC yesterday? That was my exact point. When you're around superstars, you have to find it in yourself to bash through the clique-ness and go ask them for a jump. Not easy, but what in skydiving is? I can understand the original poster's complaint though... SDC is a big dz, with world class fliers, and it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. One of my fellow low-timers said to me yesterday, "If you don't have 2000 jumps, they won't even look at you." Which is an exaggeration, clearly, but the point remains. You are responsible for having your own fun, you can't expect someone to seek you out specifically to find out what you want to do; you have to go up to them. People at SDC are very nice and will help you out, but you have to ASK THEM. It does seem strange that missy and rook didn't point out other low-timers... I'll chalk that up to the fact that they were busy. Sorry you didn't have a good time, man. Come back sometime and I'll introduce you to some nice RW guys. There was actually an article in the local paper a few years back about a guy who wanted to get 3mta3 as his license plate and they wouldn't let him. Can you figure out why? What, was she out there with a club, dressed in loincloth? "Me find boyfriend, even if me have to knock him out to make him boyfriend!" Now that's my kind of woman!
