  1. I think you are right. I've also got allergies, but I share my home with 3 cats. I find when I'm around strange cats, in particular cats that are sick, my allergies kick into high gear but I'm usually fine with my own. Anyone who is severely allergic should think long and hard before adopting a cat or kitten. If it turns out you need to give it up later, that's just going to be hard on both you and the cat who has already bonded with you.

    Am I a whuffo?

No, but your family members probably are!
  3. Tortoiseshell refers more to the coloring, mottled refers to the pattern if I'm not mistaken. Tabbies can have stripes, spots or swirls (and in any combination). Just do a google search on tabby cats and you'll come up with more information than you'll ever need!
  4. I just thought this could be repeated.
  5. Obviously. I don't disagree with that. But I also can't fault her parents for taking advantage of that bias and keeping this case in the spotlight for as long as possible.
  6. Very true about Carlos and Charlies, BUT her friends say she wasn't tanked when she left the bar. (sure, at this point they'd probably say anything.....) I truly believe if she had tried to leave the bar with a dark skinned local boy, her friends would not have allowed it. Instead, she left with a good looking dutch boy and they decided it was OK.
  7. She's a pretty white girl, and that's definitely a big part of it. But also, her parents won't let the media or the Aruban authorities forget about it. They're trying to embarrass the Aruban government into acting. And I can't say that's a bad thing, or something I wouldn't want to do if I were in their shoes. My understanding is they (the Aruban police) did nothing to find her or trace her steps until her parents arrived with their own investigators. And virtually every lead they've followed up on (even the wild goose chases) has been a result of what those investigators found.
  8. Definitely NOT a tortie/ torbie. Those are tri colored cats, like calicos- black, orange and white, but with the tabby pattern- stripes and or spots and blended colors. Calicos have less striping and blending, more patches of solid color. Torties and calicos tend to be female- its a genetic thing. Males are rare and tend to be sterile. Anyway, that little guy is a grey (or silver) tabby domestic shorthair. (common alley cat) "Tabby" only really refers to the striped/ spotted pattern of his coat. He looks a lot like my Spike who is half "domestic short hair/ common alley cat" and half ocicat. He's a cutie! *edited to add that a tortoiseshell is more blended black and orange coat, with very little white. But the more diluted versions of the colors- cream and blue (almost grey) also qualify.
  9. Very true, but I think the main reason she's in the media spotlight is that her parents have the means and determination to keep her there. Most parents could not afford to send their own investigators and stay in a foreign country holding daily press conferences for several weeks. I don't necessarily think its bad that this case is getting so much attention, just a shame that so many others get ignored.
  10. I'm not 18. When my girlfriends and I vacation in Mexico, we'll often party with the locals. (Drink, dance, maybe even flirt. They're fun, but we know all they really want is to get laid. We know what's likely to happen if we accept that invite for a "walk on the beach".) None of us would leave a bar with any one of them alone no matter how nice, cute or fun they seemed. We wouldn't allow one of our friends to leave alone with any of them, and we're adults! Her chaperones and her friends let her down. They probably thought it was Ok because she left with a rich white local. They were wrong. I wonder how they sleep at night. And yeah, I think the rich white boy raped her, killed her and fed her body to the sharks, probably with a little help from his friends and maybe even his dad. I doubt he'll be prosecuted for it. There's no evidence, he's not talking and they'll have to let him go eventually.
  11. I remember Spectre 230 and his posts weren't always so outrageous. I'm not sure I buy into the whole "my account was hacked into" bit either but on some level it almost makes sense. The guy went totally off the wall in a very short time, if I recall correctly.
  12. It was just something I'd been wanting to do for a while. Never could get anyone to commit to going with me, but I called, got the brochure then made the appointment. Made my first jump on a Tuesday, and went back on Saturday for another one. Next thing you know, I'm taking the AFP transition class, jumping every weekend, and looking into buying a trailer for the DZ! Most of the time, it feels more like yesterday than 9 years ago.
  13. Depends on how you define Troll. He definitely went out of his way to stir up controversy.
  14. My skydiving has taken a back seat to home ownership for the past 2 years. Its OK, I stay current, I just don't get to jump my ass off every single weekend- maybe one weekned a month instead! Even though I'm making fewer jumps, I find I'm getting more out of them. And I'll get more financially "solvent" eventually, and the skies will still be there! But my house? If I were buying today instead of 2 years ago, there is no way I could afford it!
  15. Why single out the "death game" thread? I've seen more than one "I'm quitting the sport" thread! If they are started by cute girls, are they somehiow more acceptable? At least the death game thread was entertaining! (As opposed to pathetic attention seeking!)
  16. That's the bottm line right there- rig deals will always be around. There is nothing wrong with piecing together a rig, but buying a brand new container to sit in a closet without canopies for two years? That's got to be a crime against the sport of skydiving! The deals will be there when you are ready to take advantage.
  17. I missed it last night. What did she sing? I think I like her and Ty the best out of all of them. JD's so blatantly manipulative- he belongs on a different kind of reality show, like Survivor!
  18. I believe its a very small town and I can see where his neighbors would have had a problem with it. But if he'd been my dad or grandfather or brother, I would have honored his final wishes. I mean, finally, he could be naked there in his coffin and not offend anyone or get arrested for indecency! I hope he haunts them for refusing to honor his wishes!
  19. That's not a bad price for a brand new custom made FOR YOU container BUT if you are going to take a 2 year hiatus and its just going to sit with no canopies, I wouldn't bother. There will be other opportunities to buy gear at a good price when you are ready for a complete system. In the meantime, you can spend that money on jumps.
  20. Things must be quiet in the speaker's corner today! Actually, depending on where you live, animal control will most likely keep the cat for a week or so, to give his owner a chance to claim him. If that doesn't happen, and the cat is social enough, they might try adoption. Just how long an unclaimed cat or dog has in a shelter before it is humanely euthanized depends on how crowded and how well funded the shelter is.
  21. Well, first of all, I disagree with your approach (you have better, less cruel options and I *think* your actions are illegal) but in this case, we're dealing with a camp ground, not someone's private back yard. A campground where it sounds like several residents have cats and those cats are allowed to roam freely. And the asshat doing the shooting also has cats that apparently roam freely, which makes him a hypocrite on top of everything else.
  22. Maybe I am. Maybe I'm thinking of what would happen in our campground. You don't mess with people's pets, plain and simple. People don't like it when other people hurt animals, especially pets! And since our DZOs have a few cats wandering the campground, you can bet there would be hell to pay if someone was shooting at them! Hell, we had controversy when people were shooting raccoons.
  23. I doubt this guy will be a welcome resident now that his dirty little secret is out. If he shot your cat, he's probably shot other people's pets as well. I'm not sure what I'd do if someone did that to one of my cats, but tying him to a tree and shooting him several times with a pellet gun sounds like a good start! Calling animal cruelty and reporting him is probably a better option though.
