  1. I usually buy a few different 12 packs when I'm having people over. I myself can't stand cheap keg beer (it doesn't like me either) and most of my friends have slightly more "refined" taste in beer as well. So I buy a veriety and most people can find something they like. If there's any left over, at least its usually something I will drink.
  2. I *think* Paraconcepts (gear store at SDC) sells those or something very similar.
  3. Cingular was Cellular One. They just changed their name.
  4. Yes, I think its pretty safe to say that was tongue in cheek!
  5. Thank YOU for saying that. That was exactly my point. Be honest with yourself at least about why you are skydiving.
  6. Well, she's a newbie and probably doesn't know the rules, so you can scam her for beer now, then collect again when she jumps the rig for the first time!
  7. My personal feeling (and what I was taught) is that by trying to clear it, you *could* have made it worse or damaged the canopy. (line burn?) Since this was your main canopy and you had the altitude, there was no reason to risk it. I'm curious why you thought it would be bad to go to your reserve on your 2nd jump- the comments about buying beer are generally all in fun and are not intended to dissuade you from saving your own ass!
  8. Whichever you decide to do, just factor that in to the price of the rig. I paid over $300.00 for my 4 year check AND reserve repack. It may be easier to demo and sell if that's done beforehand, especially if you are selling it as a complete system. And guys, if I recall correctly, its a sharp looking rig!
  9. Maybe this didn't occur to you, but in the process of clearing your lineover, you might have made the situation worse and turned a low speed malfunction into a highspeed malfunction. I'm glad you're OK, but really, you were lucky. Disregarding your training is nothing to pat yourself on the back for. (now, if you've got a lineover on your RESERVE, by all means, do whatever you can to clear it!)
  10. It wouldn't bring in the ratings if the student said "I messed up, forgot all my training and I'm really lucky to be alive. I think I may take up bowling after this!"
  11. This is like an UNpopularity contest!
  12. If you love the sport, by all means continue. But don't downplay the dangers or overestimate the benefits it provides to your family. Its a dangerous sport, not to mention time consuming and expensive. The only benefit it provides is that it makes YOU feel happy and good about yourself. Yes, in the long run that's important, but to compare it to immunizations? I'm not saying a parent should not skydive, but that's the most bogus rationalization I have ever heard! Accept the fact that skydiving is selfish, and that its OK to be selfish every once in a while. Don't delude yourself into thinking you are actually helping out your family every time you plunk your money down and hurl yourself out of the plane. My thoughts go out to the TM involved. I think I've met and jumped with him before. He's got a rough road ahead of him and I wish him well.
  13. No wait- I've got another shot at this one........
  14. Actually, I think they send them all away for the full 40 days. If you get voted off early, you go on a cruise or something. edited to add: oops! sorry, missed Remster's response.......... But I think I read that Richard Hatch met his current love interest on a cruise they sent him on after he got voted off Survivor All Stars.
  15. There are threads I'll comepletely ignore UNTIL I see the lock. Then I have to look, I can't stop myself!
  16. Someone else has a red car and people write stuff like that in the dust on his car all the time. Maybe whoever did it made a mistake!
  17. One of my friends cutaway from a baglock over a cornfield. Looked for days, asked the owner of the farm where he thought it landed, everything, no luck. It turned up a year later, still in the bag, in the guy's barn. (or at least that's when Farmer McNasty decided to giveit back) And guess what? The canopy was fine!
  18. I think the one person who voted "no" is lying!
  19. I've considered it mostly because my reserve pop top is pretty unique. Haven't done it though. Handles are a lot easier to replace.
  20. Most manufacturers, you have to specifically order the logo and pay extra for it, not the other way around. (At least with Wings, Javelin and Vector) I've got a Wings now, had a Javellin, neither had the company name embroidered on the side.
  21. OK, you caught me! But I really DID see that bumper sticker!
